1. Why do you like this ship? I grew up with a sibling that is 10 years older than me, so I watched everything they watched. A big chunk of my childhood was spent watching Wayne's World over and over and over again. So this ship gives me the biggest nostalgia grab to that movie. The humor and the music and the stupid boys being stupid together. All of that. Except these boys are in love, so it's even better 🥰

3. Favorite three Steddie fanfics? omgomgomg shamelessly plugging emily's ao3 here because everyone should go read YOUR fics *asap* (no point in picking 3 because they're all HITS, read them alllll). They're so dynamic and satisfying and AGH I trulyyyy could fawn over your writing for hours 💙 Since I consume fics like *oxygen* - I'm gonna cheat and tell you the 3 fics I've reread the most:

(The Shire is NOT on Fire) by kissesforcas: this was the first steddie fic I ever read, so there's such a comfort tug with it. The costume descriptions may be one of my favorite bits to reread, I can totally visualize them. And nerdy Eddie has my whole heart.

(Rock of Ages) by BoudicaMuse: I was a music theory minor in college, which means I took an absurd amount of music history/technology - so this fic hits all of my niche buttons *pun very much intended* But it's also insanely well written and everything @spinmewriteround writes is like edible word candy, I'll absolutely inhale all of it.

(Money, Power, Glory) by @strangerthings1975 : I swearrrr, any time there are updates to this fic, I reread as much as possible to hype myself up. The concept is SO captivating. But the part that hooks me in is Steve's self-reflection. You literally watch him grow as a character. He's figuring shit out about himself and life and his feelings for Eddie. The layers are so raw and real, which I totally adore.

👓 What helps you focus when you write? Sprint Writing has been doing wonders for me recently. (except today bc I had to be social and that drained me). I also have a YouTube playlist of bustling cafe noises because that's how I used to work pre-pandemic and damnnn I miss it!

🌻 How often do you read your own fics? Honestlyyyy, I don't (unless it's for plot purposes). I'll read snippets, but I like to read other writer's fics when I'm not writing my own 😇

💛 What is the most impactful lesson you’ve learned about writing? Epithets everywhere!! God, epithets are so yummy and do I overuse them?? Maybe, but holy hell I could nibble on a good epithet for hours! "skim-milk memories" will forever be my "rosy-fingered dawn."

follow up to that last ask about your Memory Log fic - your characterisation of Steve is one of my favourites. You write him so well! I feel like he puts up with so much with Eddie's moods, first for other people, then because he's determined, then just because he cares. Thinking about the catharsis of him being seen and acknowledged for his actions ( and about how Eddie is the only character in canon that we see telling Steve that he is a good person!)

Gah thank you so much, anon - TRULY. ❣️ I spend a lot of research/rewatch time getting his tone right and luckily, we have 4 seasons of him for me to study his arc/voice!! So the fact that you like it just thrills me so much!!

My writing could be jarring because I kinda refuse to pin Steve down to one archetype. The Beyond Stranger Things episodes discuss Steve becoming a well-rounded character, so I do my best to achieve that. For his humor, I really latch on to his inner goofball (i.e. calling Ewoks bears and proceeding to make little Ewok sounds). But I also try to play off of his vapidness - trying to make literary references despite probably not doing his homework in school, so they're all kind of half-assed lol.

And OMG yes, that is *absolutely* worth exploring with Eddie!! He only gets a peak of Eddie's gratitude with the arm notes and Eddie checking in at the end of every visit to make sure Steve comes back. But as his memories improve and he is able to realize that Steve never gives up on him, that is bound to be a driving force in their dynamic (in general and in a romantic sense).

Sorry for not being able to shut up, I could probably write an entire thesis on Steve being a full human being in fictional character form 😂

👻 What is your wildest headcanon? I've definitely talked about klepto Eddie before (lol). But the newest one that I've discovered is demiromantic Steve. When I think about his past, he finds physical attraction incredibly fluid and easy. But in s4, he talks about *thinking* he's supposed to want to settle down. And with Nancy, we don't really see his emotional love for her until a year into their relationship (and this is mainly due to deep trauma bonding so it's possibly not even romantic love). And maybe that's why when I write about him and Eddie, he's sort of diving into the romance because it's new and precious and rare.

📗 Do you want to write something outside of fanfiction? If so, what about? (Is this the right one?? Or did I totally miss that emoji?? I'm very sorry if I did, I blame the nearsightedness lmao) I would love to be funny enough to write standup or comedy script-writing. In college, I had to due standup for a final exam. I think my funniest joke was "if I had a dollar for every time I felt anxious, I could finally afford therapy." 😅 Needless to say... I'm dark as fuck.

💛 What is the most impactful lesson you’ve learned about writing? I will always *always* preach Content Dictates Form. A lot of people will be like RuLeS eXiSt FoR a ReAsOn and yeah yeah sure. But fuck the rules if they're holding you back. If there's something that needs to be written free verse or have a fucky sentence structure, just do it. Give your brain a break, writing is tough. The content is more important than the form. The story is more important than the rules.

oh my god i am IN LOVE with your memory log series!!!!!! such a GOOD concept and every new part is even better than the last - so so good I get so happy whenever a new part pops up on my dash!! Also hoping that Steve gets some recognition for his efforts bc I know he was only there at the beginning due to obligation but he tries so hard anyway despite everything! Love the contrast between him immediately being flirty about his appearance (a safe topic for him) yet shuts down the moment someone even tries to insinuate that he's helping ..... love that characterization

OMG anon, thank you and your kind little heart so much for saying that!! I reallyyyyy hope that you continue to enjoy it. One of my fears is that the following parts will fall flat in comparison or that I won't do these character's justice. So if the release dates get longer, it's just because I'm striving to keep the momentum of their love story alive 💕 Yes I *adore* that you mention Steve's determination in this fic. How it has evolved from helping the kids, to helping Eddie, and kind of... helping himself between those two goals. I am thinking about making a longer post about this because Steve's characterization is really precious to me, he's so well beloved by the fandom.

So to make sure I get his vibe right, I rewatch his scenes (only) in show order a LOT. But I also watch his episodes of Beyond Stranger Things. One of the biggest takeaways I get out of those 2 episodes is the creators saying (this is a loose quote), "Steve goes from being the most selfish character to the most *selfless* character of the entire show." And since Joe and the writers do everything they can to achieve that selflessness, I try to do the same (without losing his douchey and ditzy qualities along the way).

Those are a lot of things to include, and I'm pretty imperfect at covering it all, but I do my best to make him sound authentic.

8. Favorite Steddie Headcanon you've read or written? I have a strange habit of making Eddie into a kleptomaniac (I'm not really sure why lol). I just think it's a funny bit where Eddie steals dumb stuff like packs of gum or garden gnomes off of Steve's neighbor's lawns. And Steve haaaaaates it because he would literally buy Eddie the whole world, he has the money to do it too 😊

12. What is your headcanon of their sexuality? (Gay? Bi? Pan? Etc This changes fic by fic (mainly based off the au time period in each one). But if we're talking about the show specifically, I would say I hc both of them to be bi, solely off of vibes and the *crumbs* of dialogue/costuming choices.

Now I’m picturing Eddie as Peter in Forgetting Sarah Marshall! Tommy H is his ex and Billy is his new boyfriend. Steve is the hot concierge who ran away to Hawaii after the breakup of a 6 year relationship. Robin is the bartender! Argyle is the surf instructor! Gareth and Chrissy are Eddie’s stepbrother and sister-in-law!

I’m picturing Eddie playing the Dracula puppet opera in the bar. An embarrassing picture of Steve with another guy in the bathroom and Eddie taking a hit from the bar owner for stealing it! Steve getting Eddie to jump off the cliff into the ocean with him!

OMG that’s exactly what I’m SAYING!!! YOU GET IT!! Forgetting Sarah Marshall is sooooo iconic and the vibes are already so steddie-coded it’s INSANE.

Gah if I were to ever write this… I would definitely make it modern, so instead of being a television star, Sarah Marshall would be an influencer/content creator. And like (this is a hot take) but *what if* Chrissy were Sarah Marshall and Jason Carver is Aldous Snow (since he’s Eddie’s rival in canon??). And he wouldn’t be a singer, he’d be like… a l*gan paul type or someone with equal ick-factor.

Obviously, Chrissy would get to have a bit of redemption arc at the end (because she’s a sweetheart and deserves character growth).

Steve is such a great Rachel, because he’s pretty and bitchy and stubborn. The vibes are just ✨there✨

Gah such a good call on Argyle being the surf instructor!! And the Dracula puppet opera at the end could become a Kas the Betrayer puppet opera as a little nod to the ST theories 🥰🥰

This is a wip piece (nearly done, I'd say). But I love writing this one because I get to explore a future where Steve is incredibly open with his sexuality and Eddie is a moody vampire that is struggling with the intense feelings/sensations that come along with this change.
