"Heart of a Scorcher" Chapter 10 - Ash and Blood excerpt The pair landed painfully in the sand below as the platform behind them exploded in an inferno. Pieces of scorched wood rained down upon them and Aloy curled herself more tightly around him. 

"I know," she told him as she sat up, pulling him with her. Aloy gave the boy a quick shake by his shoulders. "I know you're scared. But you cannot stop now, do you hear me? Not until this thing is dead. That is an order," she snapped when he only stared at her without comprehension. "You will not stop moving until this machine is dead. Do you understand?"

Finally, she noted some flicker of understanding. Looking behind her, she could see the Scorcher casting around for where they'd gone in the chaos. Quickly, she turned back to Valruun. "Do you understand?" she demanded. "Say it!"

The boy's nostrils flared with panic, but he nodded. Another shake of his shoulders had the words spilling out of him. "Don't stop moving. I understand."

Satisfied, she yanked him to his feet and shoved him away from her. "Go!"

Time to take down the big bad wolf.

"HEY!" she called out, waving an arm to capture the Scorcher's attention. "I'm right here! Come and get me!"

Before I hastily finished my NG+, I still did all the Kotallo side missions for his arm. So now I have tons of combat pics, which was very fun to do because you see so much more when you're not actually really fighting, just scrambling around to let your companion fight while the machine(s) is(are) focussing on you ^^; You can't even go too far away because then you don't have a lot of camera angle options. So you need to stay close. It's really fun and teaches you to dodge a lot :b I do it on Story difficulty, tho. Otherwise I would die too much. One problem tho is that companions and NPCs really suffer from Dead Eye Syndrome, which makes some pics a bit awkard.

Why do you look so completely blank while fighting for your life ? xD

Ah well. I also did First Forge so I have a lot of pics of Erend fighting Asera.

i just got hfw recently and tbh…while i love drakka he didn’t do shit in the fight with the thunderjaw and the stormbird. i had to run a fucking marathon between those two fucks to avoid getting hit (why the fuck didn’t i stock up on healing stuff 🥲) and he has the audacity to go “hey aloy, a little help unu”

kotallo on the other hand… in the fight against the scorcher he flew around like a ragdoll next to me. a true ally. actually laughed out loud when i saw him up in the air.

Kotallo is definitely a bird of some sort, I've seen him fly too. Sunwing stuck in a man's body.

Speaking of Drakka, here's something I dragged out of my not-so-forgotten script cemetery:

It rained like this the day he was released from prison.

Their first kiss is over the fence of the Charger pen, lit by the sliver of moon and soft glow of blue machine lights.

4- If You Would Stay Beside Me (Aloy x Erend, poll winner)

There’s a rhythm to Aloy when she really gets in the groove, to the point where Erend can clock her movements and tap them on his knee like spoons.

5- the old familiar sting (Aloy x Nil, HFW)

It’s been a scorcher of a day.

6- Close Your Eyes and Leave It All Behind (Aloy x Nil, HFW)

The piece of metal was no bigger than an arrowhead, and while it couldn’t pierce his skin, Nil had a feeling it could be just as deadly.

7- The Rider and the Crab (Aloy x Nil, HFW but… cracky. Aloy turns into a crab.)

Nil likes to believe he’s a worldly man.

8- We’ve Still Got Time (Elisabet x Travis)

The lecture was already underway when Travis slid into the hall.

9- Or You’ll Sink Like a Stone (Elisabet & Travis, unspecified)

It’s one of those rare nights in Bryce where Travis can look up at the sky and see a handful of stars.

10- The Storm and the Calm That Proceeds (Aloy x Drakka)

Bodies of rebels lit up in her view, and Aloy silently counted them off as she searched for the leader.

PATTERNS: someone pretentious trying to sound like they know what they’re doing but have taken “start in the middle” too literally. yikes.

When I threw a rock to get this guy's attention so I could snap his photo he cocked his head slightly to one side like a goddamn retriever. It was cute, and for a brief moment there I found myself almost liking him.

Then he leapt straight at my face, fires-ablazing, unadulterated hate burning in his headlights.

headcanoning HFW characters’ favourite machines because I can:

Aloy: Easy, it’s her Sunwing. No ifs, buts or maybes. It’s her damn bird, might be her favourite because Beta gave it to her, might be because she seems to quite like heights. I should also include Tallnecks, purely because I just love the way she interacts with them.

Talanah: Now I want to say it’s Stalkers but tbh that’s my personal preference. For Talanah, it’s most likely Stormbirds. If that girl could have a pet, it’d be a Stormbird. Change my mind.

Kotallo: It has to be said I absolutely adore that boy. His favourite machine is either the Tremortusk or Behemoths. Honestly if you found him a mount, it would be a Behemoth because they’re such big bastards - I just think he likes them.

Zo: Grimhorns and Plowhorns. Easy peasy.

Varl: I like to think it’s Chargers. They’re the machines he learned to ride and was the first one he got to interact with after Aloy gave him a Focus.

Erend: For Erend, although he hates machines, he does have a favourite and that, for me, is Fireclaws and Frostclaws. Anything that would take one hell of a smack from his hammer to take down, he likes. Fireclaws are absolutely huge and he likes a challenge. If it’s not the bears, it’s definitely Widemaws.

Alva: Alva doesn’t hate machines but she doesn’t like being near them. If we were talking personality-wise, it would probably be Burrowers because they’re not too threatening and let’s face it, pretty cute. That being said I like to think, if she looks at them from a distance, it’s Tiderippers.

Beta: Burrowers. At some point, she’ll override one and use it as an assistant to help her make things. You know she wouldn’t tell Aloy about it either and chaos would ensue.

Regalla: Slitherfangs, ‘nuff said.

Yarra: Yarra doesn’t have a favourite. Meat is her favourite. (it’s totally Rockbreakers)

Drakka: Drakka’s favourites are definitely Thunderjaws. The meaner the better.

Dekka: With Dekka, I think she’d have a favourite machine she could ride that wasn’t initially fearsome-looking but could still pose a threat if she wanted it to. For that reason, it’s Bristlebacks.

Hekarro: Slaughterspines and Rollerbacks. He’s such an imposing figure, I reckon his taste in machines is the same.

Fashav: hmmm I struggle with Fashav because we don’t know him awfully well. But I think it would be a machine that is something you’d also find in the Sundom so…Ravagers?

Elisabet: Look I know she’s dead but you can’t tell me she didn’t have her favourites. Aside from GAIA and her obvious sub functions, I think her favourites would be Grazers. They’re non-threatening and pretty normal to look at. If it’s not Grazers, it’s Plowhorns.

Tilda: Again, she’s probably barely seen any actual machines but I think - if we’re talking Aloy’s world, it would be Sunwings or Scorchers. Sunwings because I think they’re quite elegant when they’re not squawking all over the place. Scorchers because idk, if they were domesticated animals they’d give off ‘I’ve been expecting you Mr Bond’ sorta vibes. does that make sense?

Me, I have too many personal favourites. It’s probably Dreadwings, Stalkers, Tiderippers and Shellsnappers. Anything massive or anything that can turn invisible - I’m in.
