Daily Prongsfoot Thought 010
James spends a good chunk of his life not fully understanding how hot he is. I know, that sounds impossible, but consider: He’s spent as much of his life as possible, from age 11 on, with Sirius Black. It’s not like James thinks he’s hideous or something, he knows he was a cute kid, but 11-year-old Sirius Black looked like one of Effie’s china dolls that she kept out of reach once James started walking (and had to repair anyway because, well, James). Once a few years passed, it was impossible to notice that Sirius was already eye-catching, though his early height and generally cool-towards/others attitude meant he was never the type adults cooed over (unlike bright-eyed James, with his big grin). And once puberty kicked in? I mean, James might wear glasses but he isn’t blind.
This never bothered James, though; on the contrary, he was proud! Look at how amazing his best friend is! Damn straight everyone stared when they walked into the Yule Ball! James has no idea that people were also staring at him, because… Well, why would you ever look at anything else when Sirius Black is standing there, all sleek and regal? James is so used to automatically looking to Sirius, often to the exclusion of others, that it seems natural for people to do so, too.
When they finally get together, James will finally experience self-consciousness for the first time in his life, and Sirius will be utterly bewildered to realize what and why. The problem is solved when Sirius resolves to spend the rest of their life telling James how much he loves his toned build, his flyaway hair, his hazel eyes that turn gold in the light, the strong line of his jaw, that firm yet eminently squeezable ass, the way James’ mouth curves into a pout or a smile and shapes itself around Sirius’—
Sirius appreciates every part of James, is what I’m saying, and James returns the sentiment, and honestly, they’re both pretty ridiculous about it well into their sunset years, wrinkles and graying hair and all.

I keep thinking about the adults finding out about two of the grandkids committing an inc3st... and then finding out the other grandkids knew/had an inkling but never told. I feel like that would up the paranoia that they're all in it (or at the very least would want to be in on it).
Like, imagine Pepa and Julieta finding out about Isamira and interrogating the others. Camilo might be able to convincingly say he had no idea, but Luisa sucks at lying, especially to her parents. And Dolores? She'll have a hard time selling that she never found out, never heard anything, never even suspected. It would just make the whole discovery ten times worse, because now for all the adults know, they can't trust any of the kids. After all, if they think that's an appropriate way of treating family... Well, what does that say about the way they treat each other?
Brooo i'm sorry I took so long to get back at you I've been so busy working on fanart for isamira week lately but it is 5 am and at 5 am I do what I want SO
Ahh I LOVE stories in which inc3st happens between two characters, but within a large family, because there are so many variables to explore and play with. And about madrigalcest, yeah, I've been thinking a lot about some family members finding out and covering for the culprits to protect them. All the grandkids find out about two of them being involved, and even if they don't like or understand it, they know the consequences would be worse if the adults find out, so they try their damn hardest to lie and help them hide and look out for them. I find it especially sweet if they slowly let go of their confussion and horror and come to genuinely accept them and become a safe space for them. Maybe when they all have merienda together at Dolores' room, Mirabel and Luisa can safely hold hands and not be judged, or Isabela will yawn and rest her head on Camilo's shoulder when they all have a sleepover like they did when they were little. I don't think any of the grandkids would be big on PDA because they don't want to make anyone uncomfortable, but to know they are safe among their siblings and cousins would be a huge comfort. They can be themselves. They don't need to hide anything. They can be in love freely.
BUT WHAT I LOVE THE MOST is how this group can expand, coming to include the second gen Madrigales as well when THEY find out and, though angry and worried and horrified they still agree that Abuela finding out would make things worse, so they keep the secret from her while trying to... quietly do something about the situation.
Just... parents actively protecting and defending their children's taboo activities because they fear the even worse alternative, and they love them so unconditionally, that they're willing to put their horror and disgust aside for their sake.
BUT YEAH. Oh no the adults finding out that all the grandkids know would be a disaster. God there would be yelling match after yelling match, children trying to defend their siblings and cousins and parents insisting on how irresponsible, gross and dangerous it was. And, of course, the presence of a lie makes it look uglier than it is. Are they all involved? Is there abuse going on? Should they be MORE worried? Pepa would explode, oh for sure. And I have the feeling that Agustín would be real mad too? But he'd also be the first to lie to Alma and protect the kids. Both Julieta and Félix would be like "I'm not mad, just disappointed" and give the most reasonable arguments as to why it was wrong to keep the secret. They're the only ones that can actually make them feel guilty for lying. Namely, there's the threat of Abuela finding out. Julieta is quick to bring up Bruno's disappearence, implying that the kids could suffer his same destiny, which is a pretty cruel move but it's not entirely untrue. Oh no yeah they'll talk about how these things don't happen in normal families, and that they are often the result of trauma and illness - which makes Julieta wonder if it was all the adults' fault - that they don't have a future, that a life in shadows and secrecy is too difficult, that it's too high a risk and they could ruin their lives. That being in love is not enough to make good decisions. You need to use your head, to think clearly and have your own safety in mind. And GOD if that doesn't make a hundred and one inecurities resurface. Isabela remembers that her needs and wants must always come second, and how her love and happiness aren't important enough. Dolores is ashamed of taking a risk - the first risk of her life - and remembers how it is better to keep quiet and stay in the shadows; love wasn't written in her future, after all. Luisa feels like she's failed her family and her partner, because she should have been able to take the pain, to not succumb to the temptation of love and gentleness. Camilo thinks about how his partner saw him, no mask, and how that made him feel so loved and accepted, but clearly that was no good, and he should have kept his mask on; being seen is unimportant; he is unimportant. And Mirabel regrets ever trying to do good by her family. She thought she and her partner had found love and happiness in each other. She thought she'd brought her sisters and cousins together as a happy family where everyone could trust and love each other, that conflicts were resolved and friendships were strengthened. She was so happy that, in their little refuge, they'd all found peace. Most importantly, her partner was no longer scared. Oh, she'd been so happy and proud she'd helped them heal, but not it's clear she only did more harm than good. Because she hurts the family, after all. An ugly dark blotch of ink on the family tree, that spreads its disease across the branches. She hurt her cousins, she hurt her sisters and she hurt her partner. Maybe she just... hurts everyone. I mean, look at her parents' expressions. She tried to be happy and ruined everything.
Man i sure hope none of them were just beginning to get over their inc3st guilt hahahahahahahaha
Of course it's a severe case of "it's ok if others do it but if I do it it's not valid" so, obviously, everyone else is gonna defend the two unlucky souls who just got hit in the heart with a sledgehammer of shame like cersei lannister after being kidnapped by the catholic church.
But yeah, even if the second gen adults want to protect them from Alma, the family is never the same after that. There's an underlying tension that permeates every single interaction. Julieta no longer smiles at her daughters and she rarely shows affection to them, as if she were permanently angry. Pepa can't help but make passive agressive comments about the matter at hand whenever one of her kids pisses her off. Félix is still in not-mad-just-disappointed mode, and while he still laughs and cracks jokes every now and then, there's a weird sense of sarcasm and bitterness now. Agustín can largely pretend all is fine but the ocassional frustration will slip in. It's like, they're all en capilla, right? Idk how to explain it. Like they're in no condition to ask for anything - no favors, no affection, no help, no forgiveness, nothing - because they just messed up so badly, and the only thing they can do is to submissively bow their heads, keep a low profile, speak little, move little, do everything they're told and pray and hope and wait for their parents' anger to pass. Some day. They feel like they're inside one of foucault's panopticons. They never try to meet or talk to each other much, and the two unlucky ones avoid each other like a plague, out of shame and fear. Even though they miss each other desperately and long for their comfort.
They all miss each other, really. They had their little thing going on. Like a mini family inside the larger family. They were friends, right? They felt comfortable with each other. It wasn't just the two idiot incesters that needed a safe place - they all did, because that house is a fucking nightmare. Now, they're all alone.
But really, yeah, the punishment is severe, though it would vary based on who did what, exactly. For example, if it was Isabela who was involved with one of her sisters or cousins, they'd try to marry her off to some dude immediately, but I don't think they'd take such extreme measures if she was just covering for someone else, especially since she knew better than anyone the fear Alma instilled on them. I can see Luisa being forced to work extra hours in town (she doesn't even get paid??? unionize her); obviously, it's not framed as a punishment and she's not forced, but they insist she should "spend more time outside" (more????) and she's too scared to say no, and if she ever comes home early, they'll come up with some other chore to handle, until she's too exhausted to do anything but sleep til morning, rinse and repeat. I don't know what punishments would be appropriate for Dolores and Camilo, because they seem to be actively keeping a low profile to avoid trouble in canon, but I don't think they'd leave them out of sight once. They may be forced to spend the whole day with their parents, without any privacy. My headcanon is that Dolores' room has a sort of switch that turns on and off the sound from outside, and in my head, it's a window that she can close and open. This window has a little key that Dolores carries, but if she was the one who did the inc3st, her parents may take the key and keep the window permanently locked, so she can't hear what goes on outside when she's in her room, which makes her feel uncomfortable and unsafe. They say it's so that she can't secretly communicate with her partner. She feels so alone. And as for Mirabel... what comes to mind is her parents taking away her crafting supplies. I don't know if they'd destroy them (haha my parents totally would dude), but THEY COULD. And Julieta wouldn't let her wander anywhere alone. No, she's staying with her at the food stall the whole day. And she doesn't yell at her or even say much but she's clearly super mad. And this punishment just extends into fucking infinity like seriously apart from being forbidden from being with their partner without adult supervision it just lasts forever. It's like the anger never fucking passes. Everyone is miserable forever,
Of course Antonio is blissfully unaware of the recent shitshow. Maybe he was vaguely aware that two of his siblings or cousins were "like mom and dad", but they deal with him in an entirely different way. As his parents see it, he was a victim of his siblings' lies and irresponsability. They think it was ridiculously careless to include him into the whole scheme (which lowkey it was yeah) and they're kinda worried they fucked up his head by exposing him to that. I think that's what makes them the most angry, yeah. They discourage him from spending much time with his siblings and cousins now - especially the two unlucky ones. If it was Camilo and/or Dolores who did the thing and got caught, then it'd be particularly devastating, especially for Camilo because he's just such a good bro?? he clearly loves Antonio a lot so to think he might have hurt him horrifies him.
