I watched the mandarin dub of naruto yesterday and had some thoughts that I'll detail below. disclaimer tho I'm american born chinese so I'm not entirely fluent

The show title was changed to hokage ninja and they gave naruto a different name (I think, im not too familiar with the term), but his last name still meant whirlpool. Sasuke had a different name as well and I didn't know enough chinese to recognize the characters. Sakura was named "little cherry", which I think is sweet. Kakashi's name was phonetically translated (if read literally it would've meant card card west lmao), and his last name was the characters for flag and wood, which google translate said was hatake. However, I think google translate has come to recognize it as a name because of the chinese dub. Google translate also knows to translate hokage ninja to naruto. Instead of referring to the children as brats they called them something closer to little monsters and I think that's hilarious.

edit: haha a friend just pointed out to me that kakashi's full chinese name would be card card west flag wood (or flag wood card card west) and that's the silliest thing I've ever set eyes on

The show seems a bit quieter in chinese. The VA's don't really do the little gasps and grunts that you tend to hear in the english dub, and I didn't hear as much emotional range in the character voices. Something really interesting about the chinese dub tho was that characters that covered their faces sounded like they were actually talking through cloth. Like Kakashi and Zabuza both sounded kinda muffled when they talked. That was a pretty cool little detail that the production team included.

If there are any native speakers here who've seen the mandarin dub pls lmk, I would love to know more about the little differences and details in the show!
