I know the collective agreement to kinda clown on the thing where a character's eyes are [insert color here] orbs, but I genuinely do believe it could be used to great effect...just, in a horror setting.
Like, that description is used so often in intimate romantic moments between two characters and I think using that expected vibe that that phrase instills and turning it on its head could be really fun.
Like (Trigger Warning for mention of some gory stuff involving eyeballs here):
Character A steps into the room and is caught by the intense stare of Character B's eyes, transfixed by their green orbs where they lay on the table, bloody and gruesome, the face they belong to unrecognizable where Character B lays on the floor, body in pieces scattered like rose petals.
Character A can't look though, frozen in place, captured by the unblinking stare of those eyes. The bright emerald green - they are emeralds, glittering stones carved perfectly, fitted in place of Character B's irises in a horrifying display of craftsmanship and skill - holding Character A transfixed.
Their heart pounds, breath caught in their throat, hands trembling and they are helpless to do anything but keep their gaze locked with Character B's as the world around them disappears, fading bit by bit leaving only deathless haunting shadows behind, threatening to consume them entirely.
