there's something really really bittersweet about how shadowheart is so obviously surprised and touched by tav remembering that she likes night orchids. it's one of the rare little things she could keep away from shar, something she wasn't robbed of, the last remembrances of a person she was, she used to be, maybe she still is — and by act 1 when she doesn't question her loyalties at all, deep down she knows shar can take that away too and she will obey as a good sharran she is. and now there's a person that will carry these last echoes of her memories for her so she can remember too, so she can be sure it was — it is real; and maybe there was someone who was doing the same once, who was preserving shadowheart they knew, shadowheart who was brought to the mirror again and again so she can be broken and rebuilt anew, but still loved night orchids and animals and stood up for the ones she cared about and couldn't help but act a little dramatic — but she can't recall who they were, their face nor name. and maybe one day shar will take tav away too, make them just another blank space in her mind — and it's sad and it's scary, because now once again there's a thought, an idea, a realisation in her half-emptied mind, that the thing is, it's not true that shar is the only one who cares for her, maybe it's never been; the thing is, every time she's brought to that mirror so there can be no one left but lady of loss

#finally finished her act 3 quest. got surprisingly emotional. as you can see #she's so important to me. viconia tried to remake her so obsessively and relentlessly and every time there was something she couldn't erase #her silly puns and passion for doing girls nights ENDURED #no im dead serious. there were only two moments in this game that got me on the edge of tears #isobel's note on ketheric's body. and shadowheart's unfinished note in her little hideaway #and the way nocturne talks about her and writes in her diary. heartbreaking #mother superiour made sure she would grow up in complete darkness but she still found some love in her heart #for a friend and for much less important and not at all grand things. you don't get it. i love her so much #bg3 #shadowheart

B5. A character that isn't used to being protected finds someone who will protect them from anything

The daughter of her goddess likely only knew protecting others. She only knew how to be the interceding shield suffering the pains of a fierce blow. She knew how to wield a sword for justice, with anger, and with a fierce, nearly unshakable pride.

Isobel knew, however, that Aylin had never known what it meant to be the one who needed the shield. They stood in the otherwise empty camp in a secluded bayside alleyway. Aylin paced on the small bridge while Isobel watched, irritated.

"You need rest, Aylin," Isobel insisted.

"Our comrades march onward to certain death into the grip of that madwoman Orin," said Aylin, hand tightening into a fist that lasted for only a breath. She turned to Isobel. "How dare I lounge when they suffer?"

"My love, do you remember what you said when you returned from that wizard's tower?"

"Lorroakan? That swine was no wizard, he was—"

"Aylin." Isobel steeled her voice and glowered at Aylin.

A sudden, almost sheepish reticence crossed Aylin's face. "I suffered a lassitude that I still feel. It is as if I am a piece of twine coming apart at both ends, and I cannot understand why I am being pulled taut."

"You need rest. Contemplation." Isobel approached her, resting a hand on Aylin's chest. "You are a warrior, but you don't have to fight every battle if there are others capable of doing so."

"I shall let none believe that Dame Aylin flees a battle."

"You are not fleeing," chided Isobel, "but you are letting me sit with you. You'll let me have that, won't you? We can talk. We can watch the bay."

She gestured towards the open waters with a few unmoored ships floating in an almost idyllic tenderness. The waves around the ships hardly crested. Even the wind was gentle. A light breeze slid between both women as they looked across the water.

"Will it be like those days before?" Aylin asked softly.

"Yes, of course."

"Will you...?"

Isobel waited, but she knew Aylin wouldn't say it. "I'll name every kind of bird that flies past us, and I'll brush your hair all the while. If only you'll let me."

Still gazing upon the waves, the corner of Aylin's scar-cracked lips curled into a faint smile. "I would like that."

Such a strange rant I’m about to go on, but-

I don’t think aouv is as modern as some people think it is? I’ve been reading fanfics about the series and people keep mentioning the internet or using smartphones, but the only kind of phones we see in the books are landlines.

Like when Reid’s on call with another spell maker (Isobels first chap of aoud) he twirls the wire around his finger.

Or at the end when Reid is upset Isobels been ignoring his calls she says “I’ve been at my moms (or with my mom idr)” If she had a smartphone that definitely wouldn’t be a problem.

None of the characters have phones they can carry around, and while we see a lot of news coverage on the tournament, it’s all in newspapers, magazines, TV and call ins. You’d think in a world like ours there would be some blogs- or Twitter fights about it or SOMETHING.

This literary doesn’t matter at all really- but I think the series might take place somewhere closer to the 80’s than 2000’s.

Idk just been thinking about this a lot for some reason.

It is the same if, for whatever reason, Aylin or Isobel are alone in this scene. It’s just MUCH funnier to me that a bug made her homophobic

Hahah, well, that's obviously one of the moments when modded playthroughs like this one take a bunch of suspension of disbelief.

I call this one "The Duality of Isobel".

My justification and vague storyline idea for this HM run was that an abducted tadpoled Isobel from around the end of Act 2 ends up back on the nautiloid, via a timely divine intervention or some such brand of shenanigans (Selûne? maybe? or something altogether more sinister?). And now she is on a big mission to fix everything.

But honestly, if you could find an excuse for Jaheira and the Last Light bunch surviving without Isobel there to establish the haven so Act 2 can still work vaguely similarly, I think Isobel would be a really, really awesome origin with interesting ties into the narrative. Kicking off with her resurrection, running away from Ketheric, and ending up abducted and tadpoled on the nautiloid with the others instead of at the inn. Maybe some amnesia thrown in there to keep some of the mystique of Ketheric's storyline for the player and pacing out the reveals (a la Durge).

This is also a killer idea for some AU fanfic, I will note.

Also part of my romance pick considerations, beyond, you know, just me wanting to play out one I haven't done yet (hence no Shadowheart, I'm aware she is the obvious choice here). NPC Isobel and Aylin will of course get their beautifully touching reunion and live as happily ever after as I can manage, Honour Mode permitting (knock on wood, so far it has been), but my PC Isobel will ultimately want and need to basically leave Faerûn. So I felt it would be fitting to have her go off dragon riding with Lae'zel and have various astral (mis)adventures. Visit the actual Tears of Selûne and all, it's super Meaningful. And having Lae'zel going from constantly ragging on Isobel for being weak and soft-hearted - with me pointedly picking every single Aggressively Compassionate Selûnite Cleric dialogue option in her presence, while also showing flashes of that Isobel-brand Steel that is very much there - to finally becoming open to the very idea of tenderness and being protected is a very nice arc, I think.

I have committed severe overthinking of everything mentioned above. Now, for the Aylin playthrough I have no explanation whatsoever beyond the lethal combination of "I felt like it" with "big lady pretty" and a truly unconquerable addiction to playing paladins.
