yo my name is nyx, it's my birthday today (2/3). my birthdays have sucked SHIT the past few years for reasons that are depressing—

—since i am the protagonist of Me and can do st abt this, this year i turn 31, and i will at some point turn 31.4, with all of this in mind, what do i want for my birthday? i'll tell you:

as in, some starting points to get u going, since "homestuck" is a very broad subject:

•i'm a massive massive slut for the epilogues and post canon content/hsbc. pesterquest is too good for this gay earth.

•dirk is my fav, ALL of the dirks, all of them, and it isn't even close. my fav relationship is the canon platonic/familial one between dirk and dave. i fucking love the striders. dave is my 1.5th fav.

•im more invested in dave's relationship to corndogs (and corn dogs) than you even know.

•mspa reader is my second fav after the striders, bc they are a good thembo friendsimp and also bc they are me and they are You. i might be biased. i love You. i love me. i love us. we're fucking gr8.

•im pretty canon-compliant, so my fav ship is dirkjake as exes (for now), and my fav ship as not-exes is panquadrant (canon) davekat.

i'm also really fascinated by rosemary and would welcome more opportunities to learn abt and talk about them but if homestuck makes a statement about anything it's to let the women and the sapphic characters tell their story (thats a joke, talk to me abt them too)

•i'm fascinated by classpects and the applications of paradox space's classpecting and extended zodiac system when applied to real life, since our only experience of those fictional systems is in linear dimensions of spacetime, and our only experience of astrology is as a species that in-universe cannot experience the sign caste system the same way the fictional aliens that created our species in their own image do. skaia knows, but we sure as fuck don't.

•i'm a former prince of heart (2012-2020) and a current knight of space, and my aspect is light. that is a thing that actually makes perfect sense for the reasons i just said.

don't ask me about vriska serket or (vriska) serket. not bc i'm not willing to discuss dark or problematic characters (hello, lanque bombyx) but bc:

for one, she can speak for her damn self, and has, tyvm.

for two, talking at length about a problematic character in any positive capacity marks you as an enemy of the state if that character is a woman, and being an enemy of the state is way too much fucking pressure for me for reasons i already explained as soon as i told you i'm a knignt of space. i wouldnt make a very good enemy of the state. it'd be an unhealthy blackrom relationship to the detriment of us all.

for three, i can just give you all my opinions/headcanons on vriska that matter:

•JOHN HUGGING VRISKA IN HSBC YESSSSSSSSSS

•she's greasy and gross and unkept af but not unclean or unsanitary, like, she bathes, she smells fine, she changes her clothes, but she's got the troll crust punk aesthetic absolutely on LOCK. she doesn't comb her hair.

•it would have been funny if she did even more bad things

•aradia did nothing wrong. vriska did but the meme is funny even if someone needs to take that meme out back and shoot it for the good of humanity.

•she should beat up ultimate dirk, and my reasoning for that is bc that would, also, be really fucking funny if she did

•john has both punched her in the face and hugged her, and now that john has punched aranea in the face, all that's left is for june—i assume she will have come out of her egg(bert) by then—to hug aranea and complete the circle of stupidity.

•she is trans yeah but she doesn't wanna get into it, she doesn't have to, and neither do i.

•vrisrezi most important relationship in homestuck.

Hey there! Thanks, I'm glad you like it! I've been working on finding some way to draw takaya that looks alright, now i just gotta figure out the other two lol

Yeah !! Bare in mind, I have a RP account for takaya, so not only will most of these be ships with him but some of this is definitely from other's portrayals of a given character, if they seem like crack ships lmao. but I have had some fun-- and some unexpected lmao-- ship thoughts.

First off, I do wanna establish, as far as I know the Strega guys have no official age-- based on the wiki-- so I always imagined they had about a 2 year gap lower and lower, Takaya the oldest at 20 and Chidori the youngest at 16, making Jin in the middle as 18.

So my all time favorite, and prob the most expected, has always been to see Jin & Takaya together! Call me cliche, but I have such a soft spot for the cold and evil characters that secretly are attached to those around them, which in canon he really seems to care in some never to be known way, and I can't help loving the sheer amount of layers of complexity that comes with two people who must have been through hell together, and being one of the only people capable of reading between Takaya's lines-- a very odd and emotionally stunted person, I'm sure. Also it was funny writing this literal death cultist get flustered and embarrassed.

Takaya and Sho / Minazuki. Hahaa yeah, this is mostly from someone I wrote with once, though we didn't write that long, but they just.... have a lot in common... amongst both of sho's identities. And also, I feel like Sho was a good example of those ships ( friendships as well ) with Takaya that was just..... "underneath this guy's composed exterior is someone who just really enjoys causing damage, do you want to go batshit with me?" ( Adachi was also this ) as well as having a lot of potential for soft conversation about feeling alienated from the world.

Not just Takaya wise, due to a group I was in, I was thinking how cute Jin and Futaba would be as just. Ultimate recluse nerd pair lmao-- but as of right now I haven't thought about my Jin characterization as much as Takaya's!

AND then.......... Unironically........ Takaya and Nyx? As in Nyx, goddess of the night, mother of shadows, yeah. And I don't know how to describe this other than...... I mean this almost in a metaphorical way.... but also very literal, I want him to kiss the moon god. This one is a long story, don't worry about it--

And Chidori and Junpei are a given for me, those two are adorable, i can't really picture them with anyone else lol

Oh it’s just a personal thing, born from a bunch of really bad puns and jokes with a friend lol

And ooh okay so.. those ‚umbreon aliens‘ from my story are called Nyx and like I said in the other reply they’re not really aliens but , well, dead people..

Basically it’s an urban fantasy story, right? So what happens is that sometimes people that died unnaturally/ before their time can turn into Nyx. The exact reason for this is still a bit fuzzy world building wise, but it’s a mix of their souls still being somehow tethered to their bodies despite dying .

in case of natural deaths because it’s the right time and the individual ‚accepted‘ that they died in this world the soul doesn’t stay with the body, but if the death is unnatural - for example because of an accident, a murder, some illness etc. it stays cause it’s not ready to move on yet. Those souls that haven’t moved on but are already ‚freed‘ from their vessel can then become Nyx, but not all of them do that. What happens to tethered souls that don’t become Nyx I haven’t figured out yet, tbh, but it’s an interesting question...

So how do they become Nyx? Basically in the story there’s not just what’s visible to humans. There’s also things and beings that can’t be perceived by people because humans don’t perceive in a way that would let them notice these things and beings. So as for now that means there’s also some kind of..beings or ..energies, that are ‚other‘ like this and that need to bond with a soul to be able to sustain themselves properly. In their Natural State they’re not strong enough to bond with souls that are still within a living body, and souls of people with natural deaths vanish to fast for bonding. So it’s the tethered souls they use as their hosts instead.

What happens then is that a soul like that , that gets affected by this, becomes a ‚host‘ - and depending on how strongly the soul was still tethered to life either the soul is more in control or the other, and it affects their abilities and how strongly they’re connected to the perceivable world. For example someone who still had a strong connection to life will find it easier to upkeep their human appearance, and won’t be affected as much by the things other Nyx get affected by (idk if youd want me to explain that here) . They also are less ‚draining‘ and have special abilities, for example they’re able to sort of shapeshift into other beings or are telepaths.

Nyx that had a very weak connection to life however are much more affected by the ‚other‘ and have to concentrate way more when trying to upkeep their appearance. They also are more strongly affected by their environment and need a lot more energy to sustain themselves and thus are more draining (because their souls can’t partially ‚regenerate‘ energy to sustain itself like more connected Nyx can). However cause they’re ‚other‘ to a higher percentage they have more clearly supernatural abilities - like uhh I guess it can be described as shadow bending? So their abilities are generally stronger but also more volatile towards. Anyone, really, including themselves. And require a lot of control and training to handle. However once they accomplished that they can turn the whole thing around and become sort of healers for others :)

(Disclaimer though: idk if I’ll keep it as ‚host for an ‚other‘ being‘ kinda thing or if it’s gonna be just more of something internal but idk.)

The Nyx appearance can vary. Because they’re a soul-ish phantom-ish kinda person/being without a ‚real‘ (aka perceivable as ‚material’ in human ways) body, they don’t weigh much and also can be like...passed through partially? Basically imagine it like with sand: if you’re gentle you can pass through it partially but if you use force (like. Punch it) or if your weight is distributed well enough you don’t. They’re also cold to the touch :)

And look wise, because they’re basically some kind of phantoms without bodies their default look is the ‚umbreon like alien‘ design , but all of them can shapeshift to a degree that makes them appear like they did when they were alive - with a few special features though: Nyx even in glamour-form will have black markings on their bodies where the glowing markings on their nyx form are and will also have unnaturally colored eyes (red, orange or yellow). And while their glamour-appearance is based on what they looked like when they were alive it’s not an exact copy of their living body but a manifestation of what they saw/see themselves as. Which can have quirky consequences like someone’s face looking more harsh and pointy when they get angry/ don’t like who they were as a person versus getting more soft and rounded when they are happy etc.

Nyx are , like our protagonists will have to learn, basically people and thus don’t have a set morality, cause they still retain all their memories and personality from when they were alive. They’re individuals with their own motives and aspirations etc. and also I have a bunch of fun facts about them if you wanna hear those :3

Lastly though the world building is still a work in progress so I’ve gotta work on this, too, to avoid falling into harmful tropes and stuff like that, so.. yeah . But thanks for being interested in this ❤️❤️
