winning the "weirdest" superlative in eighth grade and "most unique" (just. the nicer way of saying weirdest lmao) in high school, primarily for the way that i dressed, really prepared me for an adulthood where i would be the only person in sight still wearing a mask during a pandemic

i truly cannot comprehend couples that have vastly different political beliefs like it doesn't matter. our political beliefs are a balm that have helped keep my partner and i together for 13 years.

and i don't mean that on a surface level. i don't mean that because we vote for the same people, that resolves anything between us. but political beliefs are beliefs about the world, and people, and how we should treat each other, and how can that NOT factor into your personal relationships?

our belief that people deserve respect and autonomy means that we respect each other and encourage the other's autonomy. our belief in the abolition of police and prisons means that we don't punish each other for messing up, and we often use the tools we've learned in deescalation trainings during disagreements. our belief in disability justice means we make space for each other's limitations and boundaries. like. it's all connected. the personal is political, but the political is also inherently personal.

anyway. rip to "apolitical" people and all those in mixed-politic relationships but i could literally never.

frequently, I'll see a post here that's like "as a society, we all need to stop engaging in the very common [activity/ behavior/ perspective that i have never once heard about in my life]" and I'll feel confused at first, because this post will be treating this extremely niche unheard-of topic like it's universal. and then i remember that i am not on tiktok. so many takes on this site are direct responses to what's popular on tiktok and i am so happy to live in ignorance tbh

i just think that, most of the time, you really do need to teach people how to love you. and equally, you need to be taught how to love others. this can feel scary and hard and even like a failure, especially if you're approaching a relationship with trauma - shouldn't it be easy to love me? yeah ofc. but love is an act of translation between people across experience, geography, culture, memory. it's constant, purposeful translation. and though it can be hard, there is real joy to be found in the teaching and learning of love.
