Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT), Versus Laminate Flooring
It is no easy task to install flooring in a new home or renovation. Although carpet can be replaced every few decades, wood, tile and laminate flooring are likely to last for at least ten years.
Although engineered wood flooring, hardwood flooring, and tiles are all available, they can be costly and have challenges in terms of durability, cost, heat, as well as safety, so it is not recommended for every family.
Laminate has been a popular choice for flooring over the past few decades. It's durable, looks great, and can be fitted by DIY-savvy individuals.
Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) is a different type of flooring, which many people are familiar with thanks to Karndean and Amtico. Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) was a dry-back product that was adhered with adhesive to top-quality plywood or smooth concrete sub-floors. LVT can now be clicked by using a set-up such as most laminates. This makes it easier to match. The glue lower product is still recommended by most flooring experts, as it is more durable and in many cases costs less than the click version.
Luxury Vinyl Tile is more expensive than herringbone laminating, but this is a guide. There are many other brands and manufacturers that offer a range of finishes.
Laminate flooring may be cold below ft. Luxury Vinyl Tile, however, is warmer and can provide excellent texture. It is not limited by wood planks, but also provides durable and more practical stone, marble, and tile effects. LVT flooring is known for its waterproof properties. Laminate is made up of layers of wood or particle board. LVT has layers of PVC, giving it a high-definition print. It is structurally stronger and will not swell or warp from water ingress. This makes LVT ideal for spills and can be used in bathrooms and kitchens. The technology behind Luxury Vinyl Tiles is available to emboss and texture luxury vinyl tiles to reveal natural grooves, waves, and knots which could be found in tile, stone, or hardwood. While laminate boards are thicker, they have thinner layers. LVT boards and tiles can have domestic and commercial guarantees for five to twenty years.
Laminate and LVT can be fitted by a competent DIYer, but laminate is more flexible. Luxury Vinyl requires a subfloor that is flat and smooth. If there are any imperfections or bumps around the Luxury Vinyl flooring, subfloor preparation can be more costly.
Laminate and LVT both have advantages over tile, stone, and wood flooring.
Laminate is:
Flooring that is generally cheaper
It's easy and inexpensive to set up
Resistant to stain
It is relatively difficult to wear
It is easy to clean (although you must take care not to get it too wet).
But there are some drawbacks.
It might be cold below ft
It is not able to handle moisture or water well
It is fixed to wood effect
Layers with a lower placement
Luxury Vinyl Tiles are:
Warm under ft
Excellent texture, very realistic
Stone, tile and wood effects available
You can modify the borders and fashoins to make chevrons, basket weaves, herringbone, and more
Layers that are thicker make them more powerful
It is easy to clean
Waterproof
However, there are some drawbacks:
Fitting costs can be more involved and expensive
Laminate is generally more expensive than laminate, although there are cheaper options.
It does not address the connection to flame.

 LAMINATE FLOORING CARE/MAINTENANCE TIPS
Laminate flooring has come a long way since its creation in 1977. Most flooring during that time came in rolls and was glued down. Nowadays, modern laminate flooring comes in planks like wood flooring and is typically installed without glue. Due to its realistic visual appearance, Laminate Flooring is often mistaken for real hardwood and tile flooring. One thing that hasn’t changed much over the years is the care and maintenance that laminates flooring requires. This flooring can last for years if taken care of properly. Here are some tips to help you maintain your laminate floors.
Tumblr media
 Preventative Maintenance
 Clean Spills Quickly
Excessive water and moisture are not compatible with laminate flooring.. Spills are not bad, as the flooring can withstand liquids on top, but be sure to clean them up as quickly as possible. If water sits on the floors too long, it can get under the flooring and cause it to become warped and swollen.
Use Mats
Kitchens and bathrooms are very popular places to install laminate flooring. Position mats around areas where water is likely to get on the floors, like sinks, tubs and showers. Another place floors can become damaged is around pet bowls, so be sure to place a mat under those as well!
Avoid Scratches
Place furniture pads under the legs of couches, tables, chairs and TV stands. Also, be sure to keep pet nails trimmed. One exciting dash around the house could cause the thin protective layer to be scratched off allowing water to seep into the flooring.
Cleaning Tips
 Avoid Cleaners that Promote Shine
Often these types of cleaners are full of waxes. These waxes will build up and are very difficult to remove.
No Pine-Scented Cleaners
These cleaners will leave a dull, soapy residue behind and will cause your floors to look dirty.
Mopping
Damp mopping (very little water) is okay. However, the traditional mop and bucket is bad. This is allowing too much water to go down on the floors and cause the problems mentioned above. Many people love vinegar and hot water to clean floors. Small amounts of vinegar on the damp mop will be fine but too much can strip the protective layer on the laminate floors. There are laminate specific cleaners on the market. See what the manufacturer recommends and stick with that.
Sweep Often
Use a soft bristle broom to clean up pet hair, dirt and debris. There is no such thing are over sweeping, so sweep daily is possible.
If you can follow these simple tips, then your floors will last for years! Laminate floor has been a go-to for many homeowners for years. If you don’t have laminate floors and have been considering it. Contact Concept Flooring today to check out all of our laminate flooring options. Don’t forget, we bring the showroom to you!

Carpet Capitol- Our History
carpetcapitolflooring.com customrugart.com In 2008 we celebrated our company's 100-year anniversary. Our family and our team take a lot of pride in that. Now, our family's fourth generation is looking forward to the next 100 years. Our company began humbly, in 1908, when Abraham “Abe” Bickoff, a Russian immigrant and master carpenter landed in America. With handmade tools and old-world craftsmanship, he began woodworking and performing carpentry jobs. The local need was for hardwood floors, so Abe began and installing floors herein Cleveland just as the housing boom was exploding. He learned English and worked extremely hard. He saved enough to steam his bride across the ocean to join him here, to begin their life as American citizens. Although times were tough, Abe's good skills and reputation for honesty and detail earned respect among other local tradesmen, and his business grew. His family grew, too. His sons were raised with that same ethic and knew that they would carry the torch one day. Abe had 2 sons, Don and Frank. Frank had a real knack for working with his hands, and a high school diploma from Cleveland Heights High School. Frank decided to incorporate his book smarts and take the business to the next level. His plan was placed on hold temporarily, because both boys enlisted to fight for our country in World War II. Business would have to wait.
Unfortunately, when the war finally ended, Frank was the only son to return alive. The family rallied together to move ahead. Post-Wartime brought prosperity, as soldiers returned home. The industrial advances, that wartime brings, delivered broadloom carpet to everyday people. The business grew from hardwoods and tile to wall-to-wall carpeting. Frank assumed the helm, and slowly built a chain of 4 stores, installing flooring all over northeastern Ohio. Our downtown location was always our strength, housing our workrooms and main warehouse. Frank always surrounded himself with like-minded professionals. Honesty and accountability were non-negotiable. Abe lived into his mid 90's, never officially retiring. The strength of the company was to be the next generations of family. Frank, his wife Millie, son David, and their son-in-law Jerry Cohen. Jerry joined the family in 1970 and studied Frank's business philosophy, earning a father's respect through hard work. Now, Jerry and his son Joshua (3rd & 4th generations, respectively) personally ensure that the highest standards are maintained. The old-fashioned service and quality that our grandfathers believed in, is still our way today...over 100 years later. Jerry has recently retired and now that our business has reached the 4th generation, we have added something new...an artistic division. Josh's rare blend of creative ability and thorough knowledge of all aspects of flooring installation (from growing up in the business) has allowed us to evolve as a flooring company. CustomRugArt.com is our latest development.
