The Seychelles’s pitcher plant (Nepenthes pervillei) is endemic to Mahe and Silhouette islands on the granitic rocks high above on the highest peaks, where they’re backed by a strong sun and continuously wetted by constant humidity in the air. What surprised me is the almost lack of actual substrate, mainly a mixture of dead Pandanus leaves and “slush of granite”. So, they take their nutrients by the insects they can trap into their pitchers, where digestive fluids then do their job. In the second image you can see a dead wasp being slowly digested. Firs shot taken with Nikon Z9 and Laowa 15mm, second shot with same camera and the Laowa 24mm probe to avoid damaging the pitcher. #seychellesnature #seychelles #morneseychelloisnationalpark #pitcherplant #nepenthes #nepenthespervillei #insectivorousplant #picoftheday @nikonitalia @nikoneurope @venuslaowa (presso Parc national du Morne Seychellois) https://www.instagram.com/p/CYbSBxPKG-W/?utm_medium=tumblr
