The Catacombs have been identified as being one of the most significant archaeological sites in the world. The original burial site for aristocrats, here were found to be over five thousand bones, many of which have been excavated to this day. The center has recently begun to feature an exhibit featuring the findings from the Catacombs of Durham. The museum also features the Blue Ridge Parkway, which runs just west of downtown Durham.
The Sarah P. Duke Gardens have been identified as one of the finest botanical gardens in the United States. Here you will view a combination of flowers, shrubs, herbs, and trees that are designed to mimic a North American native garden. You may also sit at a bench overlooking the gardens and listen to a live psychic reading conducted by a member of the Garden staff. Other displays in the Museum include a selection of Tarzan stories, the plaster bust of King John, and dinosaur figurines.
The Dunlavy Gallery is dedicated to presenting locally produced arts and culture. The exhibits here include local pottery, glass, textiles, metalwork, prints, woodcarving, jewelry, and other art forms. This museum is also home to the Duke’s Waterfront Master Plantation, one of the oldest remaining gardens in North America.
The St Lawrence Market Hall is located in Dunlavy. Here you will find a variety of fresh seafood and produce. The museum also has a slate quarry, where a tourist can view the processes of turning slates into beautiful tiles. A gift shop is located on site for your convenience. The St Lawrence Market Hall has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NPAC) is located in Dunlavy. Here you will find professional theaters, a family entertainment center, and several venues for live concerts and shows. A supermarket is located on site with a variety of food products. The NPAC organizes a number of events each year, including musicals and theater performances.
