Stay with the CEO
Plot : 6/10
The yandere : 7/10
Artwork : 6.5/10
Author : mo bei ming
Artist : Young Dream
Spent 2 days binge-reading this one, as I have never heard of it. Curiosity kills the cat. I have completed a total of 173 chapters 😂 my eyes… Anyway, thanks for the recommendation so here is the review!
As the recommender said, this title may be overlooked a lot due to the artwork and humor. However it was never the art that annoyed me the most. In fact, the art was not so bad. For me, plot or story coherence goes before art. I have enjoyed comic with poorer arts in the past, due to its extremely engaging story. Unfortunately, this manhua’s writing style is just not my favourite.
If you like subtlety, then many aspects in this manhua will distract you. It has subtle moments, but it is too far in between. It is good when in storytelling, we are shown instead of told. But as reader, we are told about everything in this manhua. It also does not help that the translation quality was only slightly better than MTL. So many dialogue coherence lost in translation, I believe.
Tumblr media
The concept for this manhua is standalone arcs (focusing on side characters) interwoven to the main plot. What challenging with this style is establishing enough in-depth portrayals of story and characterisation to keep reader’s engagement. When this is not properly done, the author is left with the risk of readers losing interest waiting for the side arcs to arrive at completion. For me, the side arcs were not engaging at all, borderline annoying, and it takes forever to get my main pairings to interact or get their arc developed.
The face-slapping scenes that should have been made satisfying felt flat, as I did not care enough about the side characters. Their motivation and predicament somehow felt forced.
Tumblr media
What shines in this story, perhaps the yandere. I kinda like him as a character and yandere man. He was what we would describe as Tsundere-Yandere combo. He hide his feelings most of the time and was harsh towards the FL (in the beginning). It was so slow at first, but the pace picked up at Chapter 50+ the male lead started to show his yandere side.
He rented a place next to her, stalked and hurt people who were mean at her behind her back. The regular obsessive yandere goodies. If you are able to buldoze through the long anguish side arc, face slapping, illogical decision, then you may find these yandere goodies sprinkled all around. The later chapters are my favourite as they are sweet and quite nice in wrapping up everything. But even then, I probably wouldn’t reread this manhua again.

Flightless Bird
Plot : 9/10
The yandere : 8/10
Artwork : 9/10
Author and artist: Seuseu
I am smitten by this author! Just finished binge reading their works back to back. I feel like I have to write a review while it is fresh.
Here is the thing. Not all manhwa author is a great artist and vice versa. But seuseu is excellent at both. Her plot and writing is concise, you would be left wanting for more yet satisfied at the same time. Weird feelings really. When other author writes season after season depending on the popularity of their work, Seuseu seems to specialise on stories that are well thought-out ahead pre-production.
Tumblr media
Not only that, she is also blessed with unique lense on the presented problem. Each frame conveys a lot of meaning, sometimes not the most transparent. As a reader, you are invited to dig through the layers and interpret as you go. I am mesmerised by her intriguing take and poetic narration.
The art may not be for everyone. It is not the flashiest and can be quite monotone. But the style is so distinctive, I would be able to guess it is her just by looking at her style.
Tumblr media
The story in this manhwa revolves around the taboo of an older guardian and his foster kid. It feels like incest even though it is not. Close. The male lead’s friend handed over his son to be taken care of. The male lead and the child ended up cohabitating, living together as a father and son pir. But slowly, we get to witness how after sometime passed, he finally grows up and started to covet his foster father.
Tumblr media
Like father like son, Yeonwoo is as manipulative as his biological dad. Both using and exploiting the ML for their own benefit. The younger is much more sympathetic, as he does it out of love and obsession towards the main character.
Tumblr media
To be honest, seuseu’s male leads are not the most obvious yandere out there. But they are master manipulators and often have a laser-focus obsession towards their boo. I love reading this type of male lead, who goes big brain to getting their love. Don’t miss it if you are into this yandere breed as well

One Take
Plot : 8/10
The yandere : 8/10
Artwork : 8/10
Author : Applepie/Kim Cookie
Artist: Chalbap
This is a decent read overall, packed with lots of angst and tension but unfortunately running out of steam in the end, when the main characters suddenly became too philosophical, said wordy dialogue, and tried to justify questionable decision(s).
Ah, it sounds like I did not like this one, when in fact, I like it a lot. I just tend to be more critical to the more decent read. But do not let my bad habit deter you. Completed at around 50 chapters, this manhwa sure is an entertaining read in a non-intimidating-chewable-size.
Tumblr media
The showbiz-acting setting is believable and quite fascinating. There are some acting metaphors integrated to the character’s musing. The dialogue are often crisp and witty (except when it is not). The tension between two main leads are so delicious, I was hoping to get more of their scenes. Ngl, it has one of the most sexy first-bi-curious-kiss I have ever read in manhwa.
The main character is a pariah in the acting world due to false allegations in his past. This story took place when he started to climb back up by taking a role in a drama series. He is likeable, if not a bit too martyrs for my taste. The male lead though, he is quite intriguing, it is a shame that we did not get more of his pov.
Tumblr media
The yandere-ness is pretty strong in this one, but not too hardcore. There is confinement, years of stalking, manipulation and obsession from the yandere man. If you are an avid Kdrama watcher like me, you probably notice that the premise of this manhwa is like the Kdrama “The Greatest Love”. It is straight MxF though, but if you enjoy this premise with more satisfying pining and conclusion, perhaps you can move on to the Kdrama. Now that I mentioned it, Dokko Jin, the male lead from the drama is also a yandere. He stalked and pined the female lead relentlessly, went to her house and rummaged through her underwear (lol). It was portrayed as humorous but definitely a yandere behavior.
Tumblr media
Anyway, back to the manhwa, the art, as you can see is really pretty. Too bad it was not a smut. I really like the character designs, especially the main characters. I hope the artist would draw more manhwa in the future and (salute to the yandere god) obsessive love story at that.

Moretones
Plot : 6/10
The yandere : 8.5/10
Artwork : 8/10
Author and artist : Da le ge yu
Alternative title : Bruises
Coming from the same author as “Pufferfish and Dolphins”, this one is Dalegeyu’s trademark of unapologetic noncon yandere manhua. When I said ‘noncon’ I did not mean dubious con or only somewhat coercive. Instead, their manhuas are full of hardcore non consensual smut scenes. I have a high tolerance of dark romance, so this is not a problem for me. In fact, it is quite fascinating to see an author goes to this route, where the male lead is dead set obsessed towards the main character. His “no” or pleas or feelings do not matter at all. There is no excuse or redemption for what he has done.
Tumblr media
I found the earlier part of the manhwa hard to read, due to the uncomfortable theme of child abduction and sexual abuse. I was deeply afraid of the main character’s wellbeing, given the extreme manipulation that caused him to be cornered with no other option than running away. However, this first part of the manhwa is actually the best, story wise. It is successfully setting the tones for the rest of the story. Entering the second part, the story becomes quite absurd. I honestly read it for the yandere antics and gave up on making sense of the plot.
The artwork is much much better compared to the author’s other work: Pufferfish. It is still pretty, though. I wish the author would write more titles. Stalking on their Twitter profile has resulted in me seeing their drawing. I mean, look at the picture below! If you are familiar of a Chinese novel author, MXTX, their first BL novel is Scum Villain. I can only dream the manhwa adaptation in Dalegeyu’s hands. Nothing but perfection! Aah a girl can only dream.
Tumblr media
Back to the manhua, this one is definitely not for everyone. Too hardcore for some, but as always, one’s trash may be someone else’s treasure. For me it is a chef kiss… over the top yandere galore… just how enjoy my yandere men the best, most of the time.

Intoxicated Love
Plot : 6/10
The yandere : 7/10
Artwork : 8/10
Artist : Shui Qian Cheng and Zuo Da
Author : Wandering Grass Studio
The main character endures a one sided relationship with a popular singer whom he has been in love wholeheartedly with for 7 years. The singer sleeps around, treats him like crap, yet he is at the singer’s beck and call in every turn. Until one day the scale tipped to one side, and no one can hold the balance anymore.
Tumblr media
In the typical fashion of manhuas, the story is quite melodramatic, focusing on the angst, all the while brushing off many details that are (in my opinion) novel in manhwas. Unfortunately, for me, Gods are in details. The lack of necessary details make the story flow rather choppy, the character rather bland. I wanted to bask in the angst galore, but I just couldn’t get behind the character’s motivation. The main character and male lead’s inner musings became rather annoying at some point. Too many pointless back and forth.
Tumblr media
The good thing is, the art work is Top Tier. The manhua is fully colored and it does not disappoint. Check the studio’s profile link on MangaUpdates above, they have other titles under their belt.
Tumblr media
The yandere traits appear during the supposedly redemption ark. The male lead turned yandere when the main character decided to leave him. Among others, there are kidnapping, manipulation, cornering, stalking, possessive and clingy behaviors. If you like the “shitty seme is getting his comeuppance”, then this title may be interesting for you. However, unfortunately for me it just does not hold the punch I was hoping for.

Pufferfish and Dolphin
Plot : 7.5/10
The yandere : 8.5/10
Artwork : 7/10
Artist and author : Da Le Ge Yu
Alternative title : Blowfish and Dolphin
I will use the description from manga updates here: A rather anthropomorphic, sexualized version of the blowfish and dolphin interactions in the wild. The blowfish does not fare well, in either case.
The author is cleverly using nature fun facts as a sci fi premise in this one shot manhwa. Do not get tricked… I repeat, do not get tricked by the cute art. The story turned dark pretty quickly.
Tumblr media
As a one shot, this one is pretty effective in delivering impact that the author wanted: a twisted imbalance symbiotic relationship between the MC and MLs. Yes, MLs, as in more than one person (twin).
The twist is exciting and memorable, I remember enjoying this too much the first time reading it. The yandere score could be higher as this story has a satisfying yandere ending, however, the “love” or “romantic” part is taking the back seat. As a romantic yandere fan, I wish there were more scenes that show what the twin has is more than just an obsession or lust.
Having said that, do not expect a wholesome type of yandere. This one is dark.
Artwork is not the best, but very effective in conveying the message. Like the facial design style for the MC and his kinds etc.
There are noncon, confinement, and other worst kind of warning tags, so be warned.
Tumblr media
I thought dolphins were cute until I read this manhwa and learnt more scaryfacts about them in Wikipedia… they are pretty scary bunch. They like to get high on their prey and rapey, lol. Just how I like my male yandere sometimes. 🤭
