hello admin team! figured that i would pop this question here in case if anyone else might have similar questions! would you guys be able to go a bit more into detail about the sporting rallies and teams? like how the games and rounds work, general standards or rules that teams are expected to abide by, how teams get formed, etc? are the teams typically bigger with npc characters or are they exactly 6 members each based on the subplot availability?
hello, really great question! forgive me for the lengthy response which you will be able to find under the cut!
Tumblr media
to give you an idea, the sporting rallies are primarily inspired by alice in borderland and a touch by the hunger games. essentially, they're a series of three variety games and/or puzzles held every season ( i.e. four times a year ). the rules of the game will be explicitly stated per game, but in general, use of your muses' abilities are encouraged ( and typically required! ). it's conducted in an elimination style, wherein per game, the weakest team will be eliminated ( e.g. if it's a game where players will have to escape a situation / capture an objective, then the last team to escape / achieve said objective will be eliminated ). this will be repeated twice more until the remaining team is crowned winner! every team has exactly 6 members, as dictated by subplot availability. for each game, not all 6 members will participate: like in alice in borderland, prior to each game, the players and audience will be informed of a trait that is valued in said game ( e.g. psionic abilities ) and the number of players to represent the team ( e.g. two ). the team will then enter a short discussion period and the captain and vice captain will pick two members from their team that will give them the best chances of winning. this process is repeated for all three games prior to the start of the game. given the structure of the games, this is why it is important to have a well-balanced team. in terms of how a team is formed, the team is typically carried over from previous seasons / years until a member leaves, is kicked out, or graduates. if the captain or vice captain position is empty, an existing member of the team will be chosen to fill this spot. for empty yin and yang member positions, a team tryout can take place to ensure that the team has the full 6 members. ic-wise, the new team members are selected by the captain and vice captain, and will typically be chosen as they fulfil a need for the team. of course, ooc-wise, this would be a member who decides to put a sporting house down as their desired subplot. feel free to headcanon and make plots regarding how your muses were selected for their current team! we hope this makes sense! ( spoiler alert! ) we plan on hosting sporting rally events in the future, where what we've described will be open for players to interact with and write threads about, so hopefully, this process will be much clearer then! if you have anymore questions, please don't hesitate to send us a follow-up ask!

what do yin and yang mean? are they categories of abilities?
great question, nonnie! in essence, yin and yang abilities are categories of abilities that are only really relevant to our sporting rally subplot and follows on from this faq that our lovely member asked earlier in the week! again, our full response is a little lengthy, so we've placed it under the cut!
Tumblr media
essentially, the distinction between yin and yang abilities lie in the presence vs absence of mental exertion ( i.e. thinking )! yin abilities ( ⚫ ) require mental exertion ( e.g. a telekinetic requiring use of the mind to move objects or likewise, a sensory scryer needing to concentrate to jump onto others' senses ). in contrast, yang abilities ( ⚪ ) do not require mental exertion ( i.e. an anomaly that is constitutively active, can be triggered by simple hand movements, or an action sequence that is akin to a special jump ). as such, yin abilities typically encompass psionic and mental abilities, while yang abilities typically encompass physiologies and enhancements ( of course, this is not always the rule! ). the reason for this distinction is purely for purposes of our sporting rally subplot! as mentioned in the previous faq linked above, while each sporting house has 6 members, not all members will participate in every game. furthermore, certain anomalies ( i.e. psionic abilities ) are more advantageous in certain games over others. importantly, the house members themselves will be given a very vague hint on what each game focuses on ( i.e. [ WILL, ⚫ ] — wherein the black circle symbolises a single member with a yin ability ) and will have to elect one member that they believe will have the advantage in this game. once one member has been elected per house, the game and its rules will then be revealed, and the elected member will be forced to compete in hopes of securing a spot for their house in the next round. as you can imagine, the reason for categorising abilities and requiring an equal number of yin and yang members in a team ( excluding the captain and vice captain ) is thus, to maximise the chances of each team having members that are suited for the maximum genre of games! additionally, the instructions given ( requiring either yin or yang member(s), or both ) double as a hint for the type of ability that may be advantageous for this round. going back to the previous example, a captain may decide that their yin member with mindshifting may be more beneficial for the [ WILL, ⚫ ] prompt as opposed to their yang member with unbreakable skin. while we are here, i should also mention that these prompts are not hard and fast rules, and captains may definitely decide to throw in a yang member into the ring! they may do this for various reasons, such as believing that the yang member may still have a more relevant anomaly compared to their other yin members, if their yang member has an ability that may be disadvantageous to the other teams ( after all, the name of the game is not to come first, but to not come last ), or even for a totally strategic gamble that their yang member may be able to outsmart the game itself, such as if the captain suspects that the game is a test of one's mental endurance and thus, throws in a yang member with the constitutively active psychic immunity! we hope this makes sense, and we're so excited to see a large interest in the sporting rally! we'll definitely take this on board and consider bringing the next rally a little closer than what we had previously planned! and as always, please don't hesitate to send in more questions, rally related or otherwise!

are pets allowed in the dorms?
hi, nonnie! unfortunately, like most university dorms, your standard pets ( i.e. cats and dogs ) are not allowed in the residential halls. however, you are allowed to keep a small caged animal ( i.e. rodents, rabbits, and guinea pigs ), non-venomous reptiles, insects, or fish, so long as they cannot be heard outside of your muse's dorm room or compromise the quality of communal living. of course, this rule does not exclude students with some sort of animal physiology from living in the halls!

are students who are on sports teams (or, students in general) allowed to have and use tools/technology/enhancements? like for example, can they wear suits or gadgets that enhance their abilities? and what do the students on the sports teams usually wear when they're competing?
good question, nonnie! students in the sporting rally are not allowed to bring in any tools or gadgets to enhance their abilities. they're only really meant to bring themselves, their combat gear, and their abilities! when joining the rally, they'll be issued a uniform that will be tailored to them and their abilities ( e.g. if your muse could turn into a ball of fire, the uniform would be tailored to withstand extreme heat so they don't end up giving the crowd a free show after they've used their powers ). that said, these uniforms will not enhance their abilities in any way. visually, these uniforms will look something like this and will include a symbol of the mythological creatures their respective houses are named after! they would also sport their house colours, but we've decided not to include this in the pages lest applicants get confused between sporting house colours vs residential hall colours! however, if you'd like to know what each house colour is for writing purposes, please feel free to send in a follow up question!

is there a list of majors?
hi, nonnie! you'll be able to find a list of majors on our sua page! please bear in mind that these are not exhaustive lists, so you're also free to come up with your own! as long as it's a conceivable course run by everyday universities, we'll allow it!

hello are members allowed to reblog memes like sentence starters?
hi, nonnie — thanks for asking! unfortunately, per our guidelines, we do not allow members to interact with memes that aren't posted by the main. this is just so the dash doesn't get too cluttered with memes and to promote interactions primarily via threads! that said, we do currently have an ask meme active that you can reblog for members to send you some prompts! these are not sentence starters per se, but we hope you enjoy them nonetheless! alternatively, if you're looking to write starters for others, then may we suggest posting a starter call and asking members to comment a word ( e.g. an object! ) to inspire you? we hope this helps and let us know if you have any comments, concerns, or suggestions! ♡

hi! could you give some more examples of yin powers you'd like to see in the sporting rallies?
hi, nonnie! of course! just as a refresher, we have an explanation for yin vs yang abilities and the reasons for their distinct classifications here ( in short, yin abilities require mental exertion, yang abilities don't ). that said, there are a lot of abilities that can be interpreted as either yin or yang depending on how they are used ( e.g. while both concern elemental manipulation, xmen's magneto's metal manipulation would be classified as a yin ability as he moves and shapes metal purely using his mind, and you'll notice in the films that he doesn't really use much of his body other than stretching his hand out vs. in avatar the last airbender, the different forms of elemental bending would be classified as a yang ability as they perform different martial arts techniques to bend the elements, as opposed to using their mind to will their respective element the move ). that said, there are also abilities that are unmistakeably yang abilities ( i.e. physiologies and enhancements ) and some that are very clearly yin abilities ( i.e. psionics ). given this explanation, we hope that you can see that some of the abilities we've listed in our most wanted tag could be interpreted as either yin or yang abilities, and that you aren't really limited to a certain subset of abilities if you are intending to write a yin member of a sporting rally! as for examples, some abilities that can be interpreted as both yin or yang abilities are distance manipulation ( imagine being able to bring oneself closer to the goal or sabotage another's progress in certain games! ), bloodlust aura ( wouldn't it be sick to be able to induce bloodlust in others so they waste time fighting each other while your character gets to fully focus on the game's objective? ), or good ol' telekinesis! in contrast, some strictly yin abilities that would be good to see in the rally are astral projection ( could be really helpful for gaining knowledge in certain yin games that confuse or blind! ), psychic falsification ( imagine changing the rules up in another's mind to completely throw them off the game? ) or perceptibility manipulation ( would be especially useful in team games, wherein one is able to completely make another's teammate imperceptible to the other to break down their teamwork! ). thanks again for your question, and we hope this helps, nonnie! feel free to send us a follow up question or shoot us a message if you need anymore help or ideas!

another question about dorms, how are they laid out? like if it’s a double room, is it two separate small bedrooms that share a common area, or do the beds exist in the same room? i hope this question makes sense LOL
hi, nonnie! great question! as the blue and yellow halls are co-ed dorms, any room that is made for more than one occupant ( double and triple rooms ) are separate bedrooms that share a common area! as for the red hall, to lend to their close-knit, cliquish feel, all double rooms have two beds and a common area that exist in the same room, while quad rooms consist of two rooms each holding two beds, and a separate common area! we hope this is easy to visualise, but let us know if you need further clarification!

hi guys two questions for u what does a hall president do exactly and if one is a hall president can it also be captain of a sports team? (i have american football in mind)
( cont. ) btw i don't mean the sporting rallies but like regular school sports clubs!
hi nonnie, good questions! a hall president holds the responsibility in fostering the culture of the hall! this means that they're in charge of organising hall events — think hall parties, balls, bbqs, and even workshops! — advocating for better living conditions, communal equipment and maintenance, resolving conflict between residents, and more! of course, the other executive and committee members share these responsibilities too, but a responsibility that is unique to the hall president is representing the hall and voicing its residents' concerns to the people who can actually do something about it ( i.e., the university! ). hall leaders — along with members of any subplot — can definitely participate in other extracurricular activities that aren't listed in our subplot page, such as being a captain of a sports team! if you'd like, you can even organise your own club and get other members to join in for plotting purposes! your idea with american football sounds really lovely, and if you'd like, you can submit a request here for us to promote it on the main, and we'll direct anyone who would like to join to you!

follow up question : do all of the dorms have similar types of curfew or is it just the red hall? thanks for answering so many questions!!!
hi, nonnie! no problem — we always love to see interest in our lore! all residential halls have a curfew of 12-6am where the main doors to the halls will be automatically locked. of course, certain halls follow this rule better than others! as is characteristic of the yellow hall, this rule is typically observed, and the red hall does it relatively well too! over at the blue hall though, this rule is hardly followed — after all, it's not easy locking out anomalies with destructive abilities, as is characteristic of this hall! the blue hall has undergone lots of maintenance in the past, but the university soon learnt that they were wasting money trying to fix the lock — nothing will keep those blue hall parties down! regardless, all new blue hall residents will be informed of the curfew and be assured that the locks are working, but it's only a matter of time before they find out what's what!

hiii! i was wondering what the university/dorm rules are for the red hall specifically, since it’s the only non coed dorm, are there any rules about male friends visiting or even spending the night? or is it more just that only women can live there ?
hi, nonnie! great question! the red hall is a women's only residential hall that was established to foster a safe living environment for women! as such, men may visit during the daytime, but are not allowed to stay over — it is a rule that they will need to leave at 12am latest! furthermore, men who visit would need to be seen with an escort at all times ( i.e. they would have to be an invited guest of a resident of the hall ). of course, ooc-wise, these are not hard and fast rules and you are free to generate plots around this curfew if you wish! ♡

hii! how does nullivi interact with mutants with physiology powers/powers that affect their appearance? like, do they still look "different" from a standard human but that's the only difference?
ooo, great question nonnie! you're definitely on the right track! for abilities with visible mutations, patching up with nullivi would render them no functionally different from a human ( e.g. if they had bird physiology, they would no longer possess the ability to fly ). additionally, more subtle visible mutations may be muted or disappear entirely ( e.g. an anomaly with fish physiology may lose their scales, or an anomaly with cameleon physiology may revert back to the original skin colour of a human ), but more obvious mutations like tail or antennae manifestation may remain even with nullivi. following on from this example, while an anomaly may keep their tail or antennae, they may no longer be able to use their tail like an added limb ( in the case of prehensile tail ) or their antennae for enhanced sensing — these would just exist without a functional use! ultimately, appearance wise, it's up to you to headcanon how you'd like nullivi to interact with your muse's visible mutation!

hi admins! do male anomalies go to the army too?
ooo, great question nonnie! in the name of assimilation and treating anomalies as regular citizens, i would say that male anomalies would definitely need to go to the army as well! throughout their mandatory service, anomalies would also need to wear the patch. mandatory service is required for all male citizens 18+, but don't worry if you haven't written this into your character's background! we are happy for you to say that they have deferred their military service to a later date.

Anonymous asked: here with a dumb question! is it possible to be an anomaly if only one parent is anomaly? also is it possible to be an anomaly if both of the parents are not?
no dumb questions here, nonnie! it is totally possible for your muse to be an anomaly despite having one or no anomaly parents! in the case of having no anomaly parents, this would mean that genetically, your muse would have developed preternatural abilities through spontaneous mutations, or if your muse's parents were carriers ( i.e. if they have anomaly genes in their family but do not manifest abilities themselves ). while we're on the topic, you might also be interested in this faq, which discusses how preternatural abilities are inherited from having one ( or two! ) anomaly parents!

question, if we’ve already been accepted, but we want our muse to be a part of a club, can we add it to their lore or do we need to ask the admins first? ^^ very excited about the opening, by the way!
that makes two of us, because i can't wait for opening too! you're more than welcome to create your own club, there's no need to inform the main if it's just part of your muse's background. if you would like to have the club available to other members or want to promote the club on the main, we've created a club notice that you can submit to @nmsubmit! we'll post the club notices on the main under the tag nm:clubs for members and interested writers to keep track of ♡
