Happy Father’s Day!

The boys get Havve a Father’s Day card. It looks sweet and heartfelt on the outside, but the inside is filled with all of them trying to one-up each other’s signatures, until the whole interior of the card was covered in bickering writing. Havve takes Gooby on a hike with Sung, watches the Blue Jays game with Phobos, and grills up dinner with Meouch. After dinner, they play battle mode in Mario Kart until their fingers hurt and they’re hoarse from screaming at each other.

Havve stands the card up on the desk in his room. His friends said they got him the card as a joke, but he could tell from the looks on their faces that it was a little bit more than that. There’s been a lot of messy, confused feelings that no one can really put a name to--where friendship and family and fatherhood all kind of blur together--and in that way, the card is perfect. It’s silly, it’s heartfelt, and it’s getting a place right next to his #1 Dad mug so he can proudly admire it while he drinks his coffee.

He can’t smile, but he feels a warmth in his chest all the same. He loves his kids.
