The Instagram Live watch party hosted by Sarah Catherine Hook and Imani Lewis was great. One of the best things about ‘First Kill’ is how cool and down to earth the cast is. They’re really interactive and engaging with the fans and the viewers. Keeping the buzz going until we get the news that Netflix has renewed for a Season 2. They said they have no update on that yet but should by end of the month.
Sarah Catherine and Imani confirmed that the shower scene was to happen in episode 5 ‘First Love’. So you guys clocked that. Well done. However, the shower scene was not a shower together. They were in separate stalls so it was supposed to be shot like a pining/anticipating scene than anything sexual.
Wishful thinking it was more than that 😊😙 Personally I would have really loved more pining because I feel like the sexual intimacy happens too soon and too quickly. There’s no earning of it and it feels more like pandering. But you know, whatever the actresses are comfortable with doing I’m A-okay with.
Also Sarah Catherine confessed that it wasn’t a real bee like she said it was on the Cherry Tree interview . Only time it was real was when it was crawling on Calliope’s shoulder and on Juliette’s hand. And they did have an animal wrangler on the set. So that was some interesting behind the scenes info with that.
And finally, because so many people were asking about the tree scene in episode 4 ‘First Date’, Imani explained that her and Sarah Catherine had a huge open discussion about everything that was going to happen between Cal and Jules in the tree scene and that it was choreographed by them and their intimacy director so everything was consented to and they were very comfortable with what they did together.
Gracie, Dom, Phillip, Jonas and Aubin made an appearance and they all urged us to keep watching ‘First Kill’ all the way from episode 1 through 8. It’s very important that we keep binging the entire show.
Another thing I feel is significant to mention was they reached $7000 on donations for abortionfunding.
The Watch Party will be posted to the official First Kill instagram account in due time. Keep checking for it.
Oh, also forgot to mention something I found very surprising. They were asked who their characters represented in the Romeo and Juliet adaptation. Sarah Catherine believes Juliette represents Romeo because of her being a hopeless romantic. Valid. I still say it’s definitely Calliope that represents him. But they sorta switch back and forth which is really cool when you consider that it’s a queer adaptation. Meaning that it is taking away gender stereotypes which the Shakespearean original play is rife with. So I think it’s really awesome that they’re both R&J in it.

What a wonderful and affirming 2 hours. It was great to listen to showrunner, Felicia D. Henderson, and The Burns Family cast.
Some great bts about intentionality, production, and just the importance of these characters and how they are presented. Even had me in my feels thinking about Queer representation and how the family (both families) embraced their kids.
We need. No. We demand season 2!

i love caliette with all my heart, but i dont think they'll be together for most of s2. however calliope wont be able to completely get away from juliette bc talia makes her see juliette so they can get updates on theo from oliver. this will eventually get them back together :)

So one of the criticisms of ‘First Kill’ I’ve seen from people is the acting performances. I’ve seen several critics and viewers say that the acting isn’t very good. That the actors don’t give very convincing performances of their respective characters. I want to address this right now in defence of a very skilled main cast and I have to ask where in the hell there is any on-screen evidence that the actors aren’t very good at performing in this show.
Let’s start with the last episode. Did you not see those last few scenes? Everybody had me crying - but especially Aubin Wise who plays Talia Burns. Her character pleading to both Jack and Apollo to spare HER son’s life. And then her reassuring Theo that nothing has changed between them: she still loves him with her whole heart. She is still his mother and she will still protect him and still be there for him. The writing for that scene had me in tears on its own. But Aubin’s performance fucking BROKE ME. I was hysterically crying. She made me feel so much for her and Theo in such a short period of time. She owned that last episode - well and truly. She was incredible!
That’s just ONE of the actors on this show that are really fucking great actors. That can really PERFORM.
Let’s move on to Gracie Dzienny who plays Elinor Fairmont. Specifically in the scene where she goes to see her Dad when he has just been severely wounded by the Hunters and he asks her to promise him to help her mother and not let Davina “run rodshod” over her. Elinor’s immediate response being to nod her head in agreement and then a split second later refuse to agree because she knew what he actually meant by that. It was his way of saying goodbye and she wouldn’t let it happen. Her voice sounding cracked with grief and yet still strong at the same time. The expression on her face looking vulnerable, panicked and determined. How could you call that bad acting?
And how about our two leading ladies; Sarah Catherine Hook and Imani Lewis in their break up scene? You’re going to tell me that intense interaction wasn’t convincing? That they didn’t convey emotion or you didn’t feel any emotion from it? Come off it!
There’s been some dumb reasons and excuses to criticize this show but that any of the main cast are bad actors is the worst one I’ve come across yet. Their performances have been fantastic! Especially given they were working with severe time constraints. To make you see, hear and feel so much from their performances in such a short period of time is skill.
It’s at this point I have to put the criticism down to prejudice of teen drama shows and not giving it a fair chance because the preconceived filter is always on. Great acting is all about conveying emotion, sensation, feeling and most importantly authenticity of that respective character they are playing. And, for me, every single member of the main cast in ‘First Kill’ hit the mark every time they were on-screen. But the few scenes in the show I mentioned was when I was struck and captivated by the actor’s skill the most. So for me, this particular criticism is absolute bullshit!
