Porsche 911 GT3 – 30 Years of Porsche Supercup
The Porsche Supercup has been one of the best-known and toughest customer racing series in the world for 30 years. To drive the new 911 GT3 Cup on legendary circuits such as Monte Carlo or Silverstone in the run-up to Formula One races is a dream-come-true for many racers. The organisers of this one-make series have decided to mark this special anniversary with a treat for themselves: the project managers at Porsche Motorsport asked the specialists at Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur to carry out a complex Factory Re-Commissioning of a roadgoing 911 GT3 based on the 911 GT3 Cup in the 30th anniversary livery.
As part of the new Sonderwunsch programme, the unique model was completed in less than six months. At Porsche, a ‘Sonderwunsch Factory Re-Commissioning’ is both a recommissioning project and a customisation one – in other words the technical restoration of a Porsche road car along with a redesign of the exterior and interior colour concept to a new-vehicle standard. Highlights include the spectacular eight-colour paintwork design with the anniversary logo and a multicolour pixel mesh around the rear wheel arches, among other elements. The names of all 29 previous Porsche Supercup champions are also immortalised in gold on the rear bumper.

Highlights include the spectacular eight-colour paintwork design with the anniversary logo and a multicolour pixel mesh around the rear wheel arches, among other elements. The names of all 29 previous Porsche Supercup champions are also immortalised in gold on the rear bumper.
Custom modifications to the exterior and interior
The basis for the Sonderwunsch Factory Re-Commissioning was an already finished, road-ready Porsche 911 GT3 – the roadgoing version of the racing car used in the Porsche Supercup. In a process lasting several weeks, the vehicle was first disassembled and then rebuilt with its special design.
The 911 GT3 – 30 Years of Porsche Supercup features multicolor paintwork. Not a single detail on the vehicle is a wrap or sticker. The eight colours in total – GT Silver Metallic, Agate Grey Metallic, high-gloss Black, Meteorgreymetallic, Parliamentgreymetallic, Volcanogreymetallic, Grigiogranitometallic and Diamondblackmetallic – are all painted, as are the gold-coloured names of the Supercup winners.
The greatest challenge in the painting process was to precisely apply the multicoloured pixel mesh to several points on the dynamically shaped body. Inspired by the VIP racing car, the pattern can be found behind the air outlets in the front bonnet, behind the front wheels and on the rear wheel arches. The anniversary logo, a large golden ‘30’, is displayed on the doors and front bonnet. In addition, the names of all 29 past Porsche Supercup champions have been painted in gold and sealed with a high-gloss clear lacquer. After the paintwork, the vehicle was reassembled by hand at Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur and customised with additional Sonderwunsch features.
Inside, the seats are particularly stunning. The embossed anniversary logo in the headrests, an independent Sport Tex colour variant in Black/Aurum for the centre panels and colour-coordinated piping in Mojave Beige lend the leather seats a very special character.
The cuboid pattern in Black/Aurum is also used on the armrests in the doors. The dashboard trim also bears the anniversary logo while the top part of the dashboard, the door panels and the side panels have been customised with Mojave Beige cross-stitching.

F1 extends its partnership with Porsche Supercup until 2030
F1 extends its partnership with Porsche Supercup until 2030 By Balazs Szabo on 25 Nov 2022, 13:30 Formula One has announced that Porsche’s support series will remain on the F1 calendar until at least 2030, after the two parties signed an eight-year extension of their collaboration. The support series has been a constant fixture on the F1 calendar since it first appeared in 1993, and the extension means the series will have supported F1 weekends for almost four decades. The 2023 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season will form part of eight European Formula 1 weekends, with the 31st Supercup season kicking off in May as a support to the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix with the finale taking place at the Italian Grand Prix in September. Additionally, individual rounds of the Porsche Carrera Cup Japan and Porsche Carrera Cup Asia also continue as part of the Formula 1 support programme. For the 2023 season, the international one-make cup contest will see 28 permanent spots available for registered competitors, racing with the 375 kW (510 PS) Porsche 911 GT3 Cup machine. Depending on the capacity of the racetracks, additional guest drivers may also enrol. “For more than 30 years Porsche has been an important part of the Formula 1 weekend. I’m looking forward to continuing our long-standing relationship which delivers something special for our fans across our European season and beyond,” said Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of F1. “It is yet another sign of our growth and influence as a platform that major brands want to continue to expand their relationships with us and the potential that is there for all our partners.” Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President Porsche Motorsport, said: “The Porsche Supercup has been a regular fixture on selected Formula 1 weekends since 1993. And this isn’t about to change: both parties have agreed to an eight-years contract extension. “This underlines the great level of trust that Formula 1 has put in our concept and our team, as much today as for the last 30 years.” Michael Dreiser, Sales Director Porsche Motorsport, added: “Formula 1 is the ideal platform for drivers and teams in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup to demonstrate their prowess at the highest international level. The best from Porsche’s national one-make cups come together in the Supercup. “I’m also proud of the fact that the respective national Porsche Carrera Cups will continue as part of the support programme at several Formula 1 events outside Europe in the future. We will also maintain our presence in North America and even further expand our involvement.” via F1Technical.net . Motorsport news https://www.f1technical.net/news/

I don’t understand why they don’t stop the timer for a red flag in practice
It’s mostly to do with scheduling reasons, especially when you consider that oftentimes F1 practice sessions are held on the same day as competitive sessions for junior series (like F2/F3/F1A) or other series (like Porsche Supercup).
Like imagine F2 qualifying or sprint race starting late, and then having to be cut short just because there was a red flag in F1 practice.
The schedules for these days are so incredibly tight, especially at tracks where you are fighting to get everything done before sunset

On This Day in F1: March 1st
Present: Bahrain Day 2
History: 1992 Giovanna Amati Attempts to Qualify for the South African GP
On March 1st, Bahrain hosted free practice 3 and qualifying.
We begin the season almost exactly where we left off with the top 3 finishers of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix qualifying for the top 3 in Bahrain — Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, and George Russell

The provisional starting grid is:

March 1st also marks the beginning of Women’s History Month so we go back to 1992 when Italian driver, Giovanna Amati, made the first of her three attempts to qualify for a Formula 1 World Championship race.
Tumblr media
Though unsuccessful in qualifying , Amati is the most recent woman to enter an F1 race. She is also the fifth woman to do so.
The 1992 South African Grand Prix was the first race in South Africa following the end of Apartheid and the opener for the season.
Amati made her Formula 1 debut at the race with the Brabham team. She was the first female F1 driver since South African Desiré Wilson entered the 1980 British Grand Prix with Brands Hatch Racing.
Amati was one of five drivers to not qualify for the South African Grand Prix. Of the 30 entrants, Amati was last on the timing sheets and almost 9 seconds behind Nigel Mansell, who got pole position for the race.
Giovanna Amati’s Formula 1 career lasted for two more races after the South African before she was replaced by the team’s test driver, Damon Hill. Damon Hill only qualified for two races during the season and it was widely considered a bad year for the Brabham team.
On her time with Brabham, Amati said:
“I had all the interest on me because I was the only woman in the championship but with that car I couldn’t perform. Brabham at that time had a lack of sponsors and a lack of budget. My engine was leaking oil, water, everything, and when I asked to change it there were no spare parts. So it was difficult, and all the other cars were performing much better than ours. I couldn’t qualify with that car and the problem was that they didn’t give me another chance afterwards.”
Her motorsport career did not end with Formula 1. Amati entered the Porsche SuperCup in 1993 and won the Women’s European Championship. She’s participated in the Ferrari Challenge, 12 Hours of Sebring, and the SportsRacing World Cup.
