Aged puerh tea cakes often exhibit signs of wear and tear, such as the ones we encountered when we opened the bamboo wrapping. The paper on the top and bottom of the tea cakes had been broken, and some of the wrapping paper had holes from being bitten by bugs while stored in the bamboo wrapping. I tried this 2005 Mengku Tea Factory Gongting ripe pu-erh cake today. These cakes have been stored in my warehouse in Vancouver since 2005. The tea has developed a unique earthy and plumy flavor due to the very dry environment.
