Another initiative for Project Embrace that we had was a photo drive both for the university and the national elections. 

We asked students to pose with a Form 5 and an indelible mark on their index finger (stamp ink was used) to symbolize that each of us should exercise our right to vote.

Project Embrace is an annual campaign initiative of UP CMC ISA which calls individuals to embrace particular calls. Previous advocacies include embracing members of the LGBTQ+, Persons With Special Needs (PWSNs), and what it is to be a Filipino.

MARAWI CITY, Abril 21 (PIA) - Ang Community and Family Services International (CFSI) nag apod-apod ug mga nebulizer alang sa mga Persons with Special Needs (PWSN) kon mga tawo dunay panginahanglan nga dili pareha sa gikinahanglan sa uban.

Kabahin kini sa Psychosocial Support Component para sa Marawi Recovery Program (MRP) nga gi-implementar sa CFSI ug gipunduhan sa gobyerno sa Australia pinaagi sa ilang Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Sa panahon sa COVID-19 nga krisis, dako kaayo nga tabang ang mga nebulizer para sa mga PWSN ug gikonsiderar kini nga usa sa kagamitan nga  makasalbar sa kinabuhi.

Ang CFSI nag target nga makahatag ug 111 ka aparatos diin 27 porsyento niini ang nebulizer ug 73 porsyento ang ubang kagamitan sama sa adult wheelchair, pediatric wheelchair, pressure relief mattress, commode chair, standard walker, quad cane kon sungkod nga kwadrado ang ti-il, pointed cane (sungkod talinis ang tumoy) ug cane with a chair (sungkod nga naay lingkuranan).

Niadtong Abril 15 nakapang na kini ug 10 ka nebulizer.

Si Farida Mangcaan, pangulo sa CFSI sub-office ug Project Coordinator sa Marawi Recovery Project (MRP) sa iyang live interview sa radyo niadtong Sabado, miingon nga nakahatag kini ug dako nga tabang sa teknikal nga benepisyo ug giya sa Marawi City Health Office.

Nanghatag ug nang apod-apod usab ang CFSI sa nagkalain-laing mga livelihood starter kits ngadto sa mga IDPs.

Sa ilang target nga 4,000 ang makadawat taman sa tuig 2021, dunay nay 2,613 ka mga pamilya ang nakadawat niini niadtong March 31, 2020 (ZDJ/ PIA ICIC)

Term Paper

Before anything else... I want to get this out of the way. We had such a hard time in looking for an organization to interview because no one was answering us BUT that ended when I had an epiphany on the PERFECT organization to interview and one that I have watched in action through a concert: The Heart at Play Foundation.

My sister is a dancer for this crew and her dance coach coincidentally runs a foundation for People with Special Needs (PWSNs) called The Heart at Play Foundation. I still remember myself crying on the theater chair while watching the dance performance of these people. It was such a heartwarming sight to watch. Although I complained a lot about how late it was, I did not regret one bit about helping raise funds for the foundation through that concert. The whole time my mother was beside me and she used to study nursing so I was lucky enough to get this piece of information that I never knew I could use for any kind of paper throughout high school. She explained why these people need to dance or move or just basically do any activity that involves moving and coordination because unlike us average people, we could do anything we wanted without struggle and we could fill our brains with any information our hearts would desire, but unlike them, their brain could only reach this certain limit but would need extra effort in reaching this limit because if not, their brains would be stuck at that certain point in their brains... forever. I was interested but not impressed. It was only when I was writing the paper did I realize how beautiful the intentions of these people were... using their passion as a way to help people reach this certain extent in their brains. I literally was about to cry while writing the paper because of how much I appreciated my sister’s coach’s work. 

I have to be honest though, we had a hard time trying to get them to answer our questions because they were busy with their competition which was in Austraila and they had one more day to train. Moreover, I was still thankful and I understood the stress they were going through. I hope one day, people would realize how to use their talent and passion for the greater good of the world, especially the world of people with special needs.

Project Embrace was re-launched this with the campaign title: Embrace Your Right To Vote. We chose this specific advocacy this year in relation to the upcoming midterm national election. In addition, we began with the campaign a few days before the 2019 University Student Council elections of UP Diliman. This is to promote a greater voters’ turnout but more importantly, to make everyone realize the importance of exercising one’s right to vote for their next leaders.

Being one of the creatives officer for the project, I was tasked to come up with the main poster as well as the cover photo, both uploaded on the page. I also initiated to come up with a publicity material uploaded a day before the election to give awareness to voters with the things to do before, during, and after voting.

CFSI distributes assistive devices to PWSNs

#PHinfo: CFSI distributes assistive devices to PWSNs

MARAWI CITY, Apr. 19 (PIA) -- The Community and Family Services International (CFSI) distributed nebulizers to persons with special needs (PWSN) in Marawi City.

The distribution is part of the Psychosocial Support Component ng Marawi Recovery Project (MRP) implemented by CFSI and funded by the Australian Government- Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

In the time of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) crisis, the nebulizers are a big help for the PWSNs as these are considered life-saving medical equipment especially to those who have respiratory-related conditions.

CFSI targets to distribute 111 assistive devices. Of this target, 27 percent (%) are nebulizers while 73%  are adult wheelchair, pediatric wheelchair, pressure relief mattress, commode chair, standard walker, quad cane, pointed cane and cane with a chair.

As of April 15, 2020, CFSI has distributed 10 nebulizers to its beneficiaries in Marawi City.

Farida T. Mangcaan, head of CFSI Sub-Office in Iligan City and Project Coordinator of MRP, shared during the Radyo Pilipinas Marawi interview on Saturday that the assistive devices can provide help on the technical validation and guidance for the Marawi City Health Office. 

CFSI has also been distributing various livelihood starter kits to the internally displaced persons of Marawi City. Out of the 4,000 target beneficiaries to receive these kits until 2021, 2,613 households have already received as of March 31, 2020. (LELA/ PIA ICIC)
