A knot builds in your stomach as you hear the dull buzz of your phone against your desk and a delivery notification lights up the screen. You had gotten the courage to send your friend, if you can even call him that, a Valentine’s Day gift. Immediately you click your phone to silent and flip it over, seems like a problem for you later.

You groan, knowing it truly cannot be that bad. The worst he ever really does is tease you. You've hesitated telling Ryo your true feelings were more than platonic.

Immediately flustered, you typed back an “oh. sorry” and hope that slaps a bandaid on whatever disaster you may have just created. Picking a gift for a man who already has more money than god is tough enough, you figured something simple and well meaning was the perfect call. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it, right? Maybe not, in Ryo’s case. He probably would have preferred a new Hermès jacket or something, you thought to yourself and went back to work trying to push through the day. You were caught off guard when another text lit up your phone as you were leaving the office.

You almost dropped your phone on the pavement outside the office at a rare compliment from Ryo. A Valentine’s Day gift in itself. You decided to count your blessings and head home for the day, on cloud nine knowing that your gift was at best well-received and at worst neurally. 

Once you turned the corner to your apartment hallway, you could hardly believe our eyes. Your entire entryway was packed with opulent flower arrangement, luxury gifts, and chocolate. 

Even Though your eyes were welling with tears from excitement and gratitude, you pulled out your phone and snapped a photo of the display sending him a text - “Really Ryo? How cliché.”
