Ffynnon Cyngar Sant / St Cyngar’s Well lies in The Dingle (Nant y Pandy), which is by the church of St Cyngar in the town of Llangefni, Anglesey. The well is easily accessible and located very close to the pay & display car park next to the church. Take the right hand path (not the boardwalk on the left) to the well. The well was restored in 2000 by the Women's Institute (Merched y Waur) and was formally known as Ffynnon y Plâs. It was reputedly named after a local house, Plâs from the 1500s which was demolished in the 1940s. Saint Cyngar was a Welsh saint born around 488 AD. In his later years he became a follower of Saint Cybi (possibly his nephew) and became a founding member of the monastery of St Cybi, Holywell. I would recommend talking a walk around The Dingle via the boardwalk path. The Dingle is well known for being a place to find red squirrels which I was lucky enough to see by one of the bird feeding stations. While many people are familiar with the cliffside monastery in Bhutan called “Taktsang,” or Tiger’s Nest, virtually no one recognizes this remote cliffside Bon monastery in Sichuan’s northwestern-most prefecture, the Tibetan region of Garze. Before Tibetans practiced Buddhism, the predominant faith on the Tibetan Plateau was an animistic belief system known as Bon. While it shares many similarities and sacred pilgrimage sites in common with Tibetan Buddhism, there are also many important differences. Perhaps the most overtly obvious difference is that Bon pilgrims (there are still Bon practitioners) walk counter-clockwise around mountains, monasteries, and other sacred sites, whereas Buddhists always walk in a clockwise direction. Despite the differences, many of the principles are similar, and Tibetan Buddhists still revere this beautiful site, coming here for prayer and pilgrimage, and especially to seek cure for various ailments. ******** @jedweingarten @wildwondersofchina @natgeocreative ******** #earthofficial #landscapelover #sacredlandscape #natgeotravel #earthpix #mountainlife (at Sichuan)
