Sometimes, I'll be struck with a random lore thought.

So, uh.

As was revealed in Endwalker.

The Moon was artificial.

Does this mean that the Ancients didn't have tides?

Does Emet-Selch stare out at the ocean and wax philosophical about the fact that back in the GOOD OLD DAYS the ocean was just STILL and FLAT?

Were there any moments where their plans were thrown off because of the tides?

Mitron specifically specialised in aquatic life. Was he thrown off by these "ocean currents" moving things around more than he was used to?

I am returning to more activity instead of the occasional screen when one of my friends inspires me!

Alright you asked for it. Disclaimer that I'm a hobbyist, I'm not a professional musician or composer or anything of the sort, I'm just a collection of literary tropes that likes music and pays attention.

The following will contain spoilers up to and including Endwalker. Reader beware.

We're going to start with Endcaller, Zodiark's fight theme!

So first of all, Endcaller slaps. Absolute banger.

However, most people I've spoken to don't seem to realise that it has legible lyrics! Those lyrics specifically seem to be a prayer to Zodiark, the compulsion under which the dark primal is compelled to act, culminating in a verse that is a dark reprise of the "song of hope" verse from Footfalls.

Furthermore, I theorise that the song being entirely sung by a chorus is symbolic - Zodiark lacks a heart, and so there is no lead singer to the song. This does make me wonder, what would it sound like if the singer of Elidibus's theme, To The Edge, were singing it? If I had the power to find out, you'd best believe I would.

This segues nicely onto To The Edge! Based on the same general musical theme as the Amaurot theme, To The Edge is notable both for the lyrics, obviously, but also for the fact that the ticking clock that so calmly represented Amaurot is no longer placid - it is now urgent. Time, in Elidibus's eyes, has run out, and as the lyrics decry, he sees you as Death.

I still want to know that the line "Come, shadow, come follow me" means, though. Let me know if you have theories!

And finally, I'm going to talk about the number one song that I like to talk about in this game, because it underpins so much: The Maker's Ruin.

What can I say about The Maker's Ruin that hasn't been talked to death? It's your theme. The Warrior of Light. The hero, the adventurer.

When you struggle against Ultima, it plays. When Omega tries to defeat you by becoming you, it plays. When Ardbert bares his soul - inexorably tied to yours - to you, it plays.

And when, at the edge of the stars, all of your companions cry out with one mind, survive, fight, win...

Well, that's when we get With Hearts Aligned. Which contains the musical leitmotif of the Warrior of Light, The Maker's Ruin.
