i just realized that in chinese, 岚 means “mountain mist”. and when you think of mountain mist, you get this kind of... beautiful, calm atmosphere that nonetheless carries a hint of danger in it, fitting for someone like song lan. but in japanese, the same character 嵐 (the chinese form is simplified), does have a similar meaning of “air/wind over the mountains, mountain mist” but the primary, common meaning is just. storm. a tempest if you will. c o m p l e t e l y different associations
