obsessed with the take "aew treated punk worse than wwe did" like... you know they almost killed him right. like even if you take punk's version of events in their entirety about what happened in both companies. wwe straight up almost killed him. reading exclusively punk's words about either company, aew made him work one match with an injury, which, yes, that's Bad. wwe made him wrestle with a staph infection for months. go back and watch punk wwe stuff from late in his tenure, he looks like he is wasting away. he SUED ONE COMPANY AND NOT THE OTHER. like I don't want him in either goddamn promotion because I don't want him on my tv but "it's not unreasonable to go to wwe because aew was worse for punk specifically" is Such a batshit stupid take

to be clear i think airing the brawl in footage is a bad idea for aew, it makes them look bitter and petty and everything people already accuse them of being, and I don't think general audiences care about wwe potshots (or brawl in potshots) literally at all. but on the other hand it would be really fucking funny.

also not to be academics poisoned but the punk fan phenomenon is sort of fascinating from a sociological point of view. watching and experiencing radicalization in real time. seeing the ways in which small, insular communities form and self-police, seeing the ways people change their behavior to retain their in-group status. watching how beliefs change and become recuperated into the conspiracy. and it is conspiracy thinking, at this point, the way that punk has become the center of the (online, fannish) world of these people. like if I didn't have personal feelings about it I'd want to study it like a bug.

"the new guidance for trans children in schools is illegal and unenforceable" is a take that's just... like. someone who believes these two things mean the harm of the guidance is mitigated is not someone who has uh. lived. in the world. it may well both be illegal and unenforceable, but that doesn't mean it won't be fucking practiced. it gives schools and transphobic staff/teachers/parents an excuse (we were just following the official government guidance), it opens them up to lawsuits but when you have colonies you can steal money from to fight those legal battles it doesn't matter, and as long as those legal battles are being fought the guidance still stands. I don't know how much clearer it is possible to be. the guidance will kill trans children.

the government's expressed desire was to ban social transition entirely. they couldn't manage that, so they did the next best thing: effectively ban it. it does not matter to them if they get sued or if there is not a feasible strict enforcement mechanism.

the goal of the guidance is to eradicate trans children in schools entirely.

this is the starting point: effectively ban social transition, and effectively allow transphobic hate crimes that take place in schools. it will not end here. it is not ending here.

arguing about the legality or enforceability of the guidance misses the forest for the trees. something doesn't need to be strictly enforced to kill people. it doesn't need to be legal, either
