There is a new exhibition called 'La Moda en la Casa de Alba/The Fashion in the House of Alba' at Palacio de Liria in Madrid from October 19th to March 31st. It covers two centuries of the family through their fashion with designs by Charles Frederick Worth, Louise Chéruit, Cristóbal Balenciaga, Flora Villareal, Manuel Pertegaz, and Enmanuel Húngaro. The exhibition includes dresses worn by Empress Eugénie of France, also the Countess of Montijo, and the wedding dresses of Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart, 18th Duchess of Alba, Eugenia Martínez de Irujo, 12th Duchess of Montoro, and Sofía Palazuelo Barroso, Duchess of Huéscar. You can find out more about visiting here.

There are no jewels on display due to security concerns and the cost of insuring them but I noticed in the background of one of the pictures is a portrait of the Duchess of Huéscar wearing the Alba Strawberry Leaf Coronet.

It looks like it was part of the same photo session as the portrait that was found to be on display at Palacio de las Dueñas in Seville in January.

I need to see a better quality picture of Sofia wearing the tiara!

Strawberry leaf ducal-style coronets are very popular amongst Spanish nobility. The one is made of emeralds, diamonds, and pearls and was supposedly a gift from Empress Eugénie to her sister, María Francisca de Sales de Palafox Portocarrero y Kirkpatrick, 16th Duchess of Peñaranda de Duero, wife of the 15th Duke of Alba. Here it is worn by María del Rosario Falcó y Osorio, 21st Countess of Siruela, and María del Rosario de Silva y Gurtubay, 9th Marchioness of San Vicente del Barco, wives of the 16th and 17th Dukes respectively.

Of course it was most famously worn by María del Rosario Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart y Silva, 18th Duchess of Alba, and most titled person in the world before she passed away in 2014.

If anyone goes to the exhibition and is able to get better shot of the portrait, I would very much appreciate if you would send it to me.

I have pretty much forgotten the American remake, Vanilla Sky (Cameron Crowe, 2001), with Tom Cruise. And I'm afraid I'm going to forget the original, Open Your Eyes, rather quickly, too. Sci-fi head-spinners generally work for me only if they feature plausible and interesting people. The protagonist of Open Your Eyes, César (Eduardo Noriega), is certainly handsome but otherwise he's just another rich layabout who doesn't seem to have much compunction about stealing Sofia (Penélope Cruz), the young woman his friend Pelayo (Fele Martínez) brings to César's birthday party. But that awakens the jealousy of his ex-girlfriend, Nuria (Najwa Nimri), who offers César a ride in her car and then drives it off a hillside. The accident leaves César disfigured -- and then the plot switches into a complex cross-cutting between reality and nightmare. The premise is intriguing: We learn eventually that the disfigured César, told that plastic surgery can do nothing to restore his good looks, commits suicide so that he can be cryogenically frozen, in the hope that one day be revived and have his face restored. But he also signs a clause that allows for his memories to be replaced with artificial ones, so that he will forget the trauma of the accident and the disfigurement. The unraveling of this plot, devised by Amenábar and Mateo Gil, involves much confusion of identity, including scenes in which César finds Sofia turning into the murderous Nuria. With the aid of the psychologist Antonio (Chete Lara), who may or may not be real, César manages to discover what may or may not have happened -- the film is just that unwilling to make everything explicit. Cruz, who played the same role in the American remake, is quite effective as the lovely Sofia, a victim of César's obsession and Nuria's cruelty, generating the only real suspense in the film.

LTRL @lateral.ltrl se complace en presentar Circular el Tiempo, comisariada por Fabiola Menchelli @fabiolamenchelli. La exposición surge del proyecto Círculo de Crítica de Obra @circulocritica y presenta el trabajo de 14 artistas latinoamericanos. Las obras gravitan en torno a la idea de circularidad, una palabra polifónica que se despliega, expandiendo la reciprocidad y el sentido de comunidad que genera el Círculo. Les artistas de la muestra exploran la circularidad como gesto, como verbo, como proceso, como camino, como acción social, en relación con el tiempo, la repetición, la materia y la imagen. Y nos invitan a replantear la circularidad como eje para reimaginar y habitar nuevos futuros posibles.

El Círculo de Crítica de Obra es un taller para artistas emergentes latinoamericanos. Un espacio horizontal diseñado para asesorar los procesos creativos de los participantes y ampliar la investigación artística a través del acompañamiento y la crítica grupal.

LTRL is pleased to present Circular el Tiempo, curated by Fabiola Menchelli. The exhibition arises from the project Círculo de Crítica de Obra and presents the work of 14 Latin American artists. The works gravitate around circularity, a polyphonic word that unfolds, expanding the reciprocity and sense of community generated by the Circle. The artists in the exhibition explore circularity as a gesture, as a verb, as a process, as a path, and as social action, in relation to time, repetition, matter, and image. They invite us to rethink circularity as an axis for reimagining and inhabiting new possible futures.

El Círculo de Crítica de Obra is a workshop for emerging Latin American artists. A horizontal space designed to advise the participants' creative processes and expand artistic research through accompaniment and group critique.

Participará Chihuahua con Softbol, Tenis de Mesa y Levantamiento de Pesas en Juegos Nacionales Conade 2023

Importante representación tendrá la Delegación Chihuahua en las disciplinas de Softbol, Tenis de Mesa y Levantamiento de Pesas, en la próxima edición de los Juegos Nacionales Conade 2023 a realizarse en Tabasco, Morelos y Nayarit.

En Tijuana, Baja California, se realizó el Macro Regional de Levantamiento de Pesas, donde se logró la clasificación en la categoría Sub 23 de José Pallares (División 45kg), Brisa Martínez (Div. 49kg) y Daniela Hernández (Div. 55kg).

Mientras que, en la categoría Sub 20, los que lograron su pase para representar al estado en la etapa nacional, son: Ana Pérez (Div. 49kg), Catherine Garibay (Div. 45kg), Fernando Sánchez (División +109kg) y Karina Ceballos (Div. 71kg).

Chihuahua fue sede del Macro Regional de Tenis de Mesa, en donde se consiguió el triunfo en equipos e individual, con resultados favorables de Leonardo Pérez, Carlos Quiroz, Ian Escalera, Jorge Armendáriz, así como Sofia Carreño, Maryhan García, Alondra Serrano y Danna Ramírez, en la categoría Sub 19.

En otros resultados, los chihuahuenses ganadores en la categoría Sub 15 fueron: Eduardo Pérez, José Pablo Granados, Diego Gómez, Jaime Castro, junto a Ximena Cerino Martínez y Verónica Robles Ramírez. Y en la sub 21: Erick López Saldivar, Abisaí Chávez Rosas y Carlos Rojas Arias.

En Softbol de la categoría juvenil menor, las chihuahuenses lograron el pase al nacional Conade 2023 de manera invictas, protagonizando su último juego contra Baja California Sur 20-0, lanzó por Chihuahua Daniela " la estelarísima" Hernández aceptando un solo hit y recetó 5 chocolates en 3 innings, las mejores bateadoras por Chihuahua fueron: Camille Escobar de 3-3, Andrea Cano de 2-2, Viridiana Porras y Natalia Martínez de 2-1, Camila Holguín, Tamara Gallegos y Daniela Gamboa de 1-1.

La categoría femenil mayor de Chihuahua tomó su boleto para el Nacional, luego de un juego de vida o muerte contra Durango, lograron superar las de Chihuahua por 6-2; siendo la pitcher ganadora Janine "Cholita" Loya con salvamento de la “güerita lanza llamas” Fernanda Enríquez, las mejores con el bat por Chihuahua fueron: Dayana Frías de 3-2, Valeria Rodríguez de 4-2, Cristal Ceniceros de 2-1 y Dulce Ontiveros de 3-1.

The Martínez family has been through a lot since they moved to Willow Creek. Jennifer and Pablo quickly found themselves in a parental predicament. The local principal called Pablo with troubling news, young Sofia and Leonardo were falling far behind in class and acting out. They were warned to get the kids on track or else they would have them taken away.

The two were stressed out by this and wasted no time in making sure the twins had their work done everyday. It was a slow start, but eventually they had found a routine and things seemed to be going well for the two - academically at least.

Jennifer and Pablo were losing their minds over it all. The twins were constantly getting at each other. It didn’t stop at home either as their fights would continue at school and sometimes with the other students.

Things spiraled rather fast after Leo came home angry. Pablo tried to reign the twins in, but they were just too much. Leo swore ate Sofia and she made a mess in his room. He was in the middle of cleaning up their other messes when Jennifer got home. She was outraged and punished both kids immediately before turning her anger to her husband. It was the first of many fights to come.

Leo and Sofia were starting to get worried. They did their best not to upset their parents after, but sometimes it seemed inevitable. For a short time they were able to get along and Jennifer was expecting their third child. It unfortunately ended in a miscarriage. This loss broke them and they ended up getting a separation. 

During the separation the twins finally found a way to be civil with each other. They acted out way less and tried to convince their parents to do the same. Pablo was the one to move out for a while, but after enough time had passed Jennifer invited him back. They were able to talk things out and make amends.

Still wanting another child, they turned to adoption instead as Jennifer could no longer have kids. They were rejected after a long and stressful interview, but they didn’t give up. Finally they found luck in surrogacy. They hired a woman by the name Ahiri Tilo. She was a single woman in her late thirties. 

For nine months the family healed and bonded as they prepared for the new addition to the family. Jennifer was home alone with Ahiri when she went into labor. It was stressful. The labor lasted several hours. Thankfully Jennifer was able to help her deliver the baby, a boy she lovingly named Brandon. 

Brandon was born completely blue, making Jennifer worry that something was wrong. Ahiri knew that he was completely healthy though and reassured of such before running off. Everyone was baffled, but glad nonetheless to have little Brandon in their family. Only a day later the family received some heartbreaking news, Ahiri had passed away to unknown causes. There was no way now to find out more about Brandon.

Time went by fast it seemed. The family had recovered and found a new happiness in caring for Brandon. The twins got a long much better in their teen years, though still had a few bad habits of picking on each other. 

Sofia was still hot headed, but didn’t let it affect her grades. She had straight A’s all through high school. She made fast friends with Jayden Price who took her prom.

Leo on the other hand was doing poorly for a bit. His grades had dropped from A to D. He was just stressed out from school all the time, so much so that he started ditching it sometimes to hang out at the park. 

One of the days he ditched he met a girl named Kyra Nouvel. They got off on the wrong foot, but he managed to somehow turn things around. He opened up to her after a while about his home life and how things were just too much for him sometimes. She was there for him and encouraged him when he felt low. Soon enough his moods were better and he was back to getting A’s like Sofia.

He asked her to be his girlfriend and she accepted so long as he promised to go to prom with her instead of skipping.

Kieran "Racer" Patel: Kieran, the analytical data analyst, would react with a thoughtful and curious expression. Oaxaca será sede de Conectando Emprendedores MX Cris Martínez Visibilizar la importancia del emprendimiento que se gesta y desarrolla cotidianamente, es la temática de la quinta edición del Encuentro Conectando Emprendedores MX (CE:MX), que se realizará en modalidad híbrida (presencial y redes sociales) este 24 y 25 de agosto en la Ciudad de los Archivos, en el Estado de Oaxaca. En esta edición, se une el estado de Campeche y, por segundo año consecutivo, participan Yucatán, Tabasco, Chiapas y Oaxaca, éste último como precursor de la iniciativa. Durante dos días CE:MX, Emprendimiento Real, se convertirá en el evento de emprendimiento más emocionante del país, que invitará a los asistentes a reflexionar sobre algunas preguntas que actualmente están frente a nosotros: ¿qué tan accesible y cuál es el impacto que genera el emprendimiento en los diferentes contextos donde se desarrolla?, ¿cómo podemos contribuir a imaginar un mejor futuro y colaborar mutuamente para ofrecer soluciones a los retos actuales? En un formato híbrido mediante foros, paneles y talleres, emprendedores del país compartirán sus experiencias con los asistentes. También participarán líderes de diversos sectores empresariales, educativos y de emprendimiento, compartiendo sus vivencias y aprendizajes, por ejemplo: Luis Manuel Pérez Duarte, Gerente Corporativo de Desarrollo en Bimbo; Ramón Ramírez Guzmán, Director de Relaciones Públicas de Cinépolis; Cristina Arias Guzmán, Directora de Innovación en Disruptivo.tv y Socialab México; Sofia Potes, Cofundadora de Incubadora Míticas; Jorge Gómez Abrams, Director de Winn Innovation; Montserrat Gispert, Coordinadora de Parque Tecnia de la Universidad Anáhuac Mayab; entre otros. CE:MX 2022 busca también propiciar el crecimiento de empresas consolidadas, por ello realizó la convocatoria Conecta&Crece para 50 Micro, pequeñas y Medianas Empresas MiPyME de los Estados aliados que deseen fortalecer sus capacidades y tengan la intención de volverse parte de la cadena de proveeduría de las empresas que integran el Consejo Mexicano de Negocios (CMN), así como promover al menos alguno de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS).
