After Steve’s parents find out he and Eddie are together, Steve has the chance to leave Hawkins with Eddie and Corroded Coffin on their first tour, but rejects it. It’s the last time he sees Eddie for 19 years. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t hear from him. As Steve goes to college, gets a job, gets married and has kids, he continues to receive dispatches from an otherwise silent Eddie in the form of mixtapes and original music, conveying his frustration, fear and grief at the forces that tore them apart. Although it's one-sided, sporadic, and often full of righteous anger, the music is close to the only real connection for both of them for many long, lonely years. It’s only when another member of the Party needs them that they are able to finally put the past behind them.
