I recently found a cheap used lacefront off of eBay and styled it specifically for the Takarazuka version of Oscar! I want to make several looks from their productions at some point and decided to dedicate a wig specifically to it. The style has changed a lot over the years of productions, so I kind of picked the elements I liked best from different ones and combined them.

The base wig was straight, so I did a roller set, steamed it, combed it out, and trimmed the bangs and layers afterwards. Thanks @gormasmus for teaching me how to do roller sets, it's so much more efficient than a curling iron once you get the hang of it!

I'm actually planning on redoing my wig for my full military Oscar build which sounds crazy I know. I still plan on using my old wig for some of her looks, but I've realized I want to take the style a slightly different design direction for my competition build after some more thought and research.

Looking back at 2023, I really can't believe it's the year I signed not only one, but two book contracts (more on both sooner than later!), and also the year I switched jobs in May, which felt like a whole new year itself, and ALSO the year I won the great war and got tickets to see Taylor Swift next year three times!!! We not only went to see the Taylor Swift candlelight classical concert, but also to the #TSTheErasTourMovie two times. We had a BLAST as the whole cinema was dancing and singing. The Taylor Swift Clubnight was also memoriable as it was such a safe space!

This year, I went to Japan, France and Belgium. Especially going back to Tokyo and Osaka meant the world to me. I was so used to go once a year until, you know, Covid happened, that I still can remember the day booking this trip (literally when Japan opened back up). My highlights included doing the Salon de Takarazuka and getting tickets to "Lilac", doing cosplay pics at HACO Stadium and also going to Tokyo Pride and finally meeting Jen in person. And of course hanging out with Alice, Katelyn and Anne - I even made it on Japanese telly?! What!? I also ate my way through Berlin, which was nice.

I wrote A TON of articles. I think I've never written that much. My work included articles for Koneko, K*Bang and all their special issues (including the new edition of our K*Bang book), Münchner Merkur, Spiesser, MISSY, L'Offieicel Liechtenstein, ALFONZ, MyFanbase, Mannschaft.com, Femotion, ZEITjUNG, 22places, interviewing Tim Bendzko for YEAH! and talking to "Somewhere over the Haybale" and "Vollqueer". And my "Shopping Queen" week reran! I also participated at the Queer sind Wir campaign meeting the incredible drag artists behind it.

Speaking of long-distance, THAT ENDED FOR ME AND Anna and we were finally able to move together this year 💗💗💗💗 That was truly my highlight this year 😍🥰

Honorable mentions: anniversary dinner at Giorgia, Puppy Yoga, Karaoke for my birthday celebration and cosplaying "Wreck It Ralph 2"'s Anna, "NGE"-Asuka and Kim Possible!

I ended up in the finale of the ENERGY TikTok casting and also in the book "In anderen Welten". We saw Panic! At The Disco, Aurel Mertz, Paula Lambert and El Hotzo live, as well as BABYMETAL. And we went to Hamburg to see "Mamma Mia!" with my parents! The "Femme Fatale" exhibit there was also incredible that we saw with my twin who's now long-distance! (I also loved the "Disney 100 exhibit").

so funny to me that so many fans of takarazuka/all-female japanese theater are just lesbians like it's expected because of what it is but imjust not used to seeing so many lesbians in one place irs kind of awesome. those people will see a nothing picture of a woman in an awful short wig like bad gazette cosplay who looks like someone draped a twig or perhaps branch in oversized clothes they borrowed from their dad just looking sort of awkward and funny and they'll tag it #ugh she's so sexy..

To celebrate our first issue, the guest is...Manaki Reika of Moon Troupe ☽ It's Chapi~♡ Ah, she's an angel ♡ She's full of clarity....Let'Sewatch the mystery of this angel descending to earth!!!!

~About the theme of our cosplay~

Seocchi: Everyone already knows about the beauty and cuteness of Chapi, so I thought what if we showed a different side of Chapi~

Chapi: No, not at all. But because it's the New Year issue, aren't we wearing these for the New Year?

Seocchi: We thought, "Year of the...Monkey, right? OH!" (LOL) What do you think about becoming a monkey (LOL)?

Chapi: Since I was born, I've been told that I look like a monkey, so it's an honour to be a monkey [for this corner].

Both: (exploding in laughter).

Chapi: My mother used to say, "I thought I gave birth to a monkey" (LOL).

Seocchi: Well, you could say you returned to your roots. What a new feeling (LOL).

Chapi: Yes, that's right. My ears are also "far away from each other" (and while saying that, Chapi flapped her hands beside her ears).

Seocchi: I thought would it be possible to show a side of Co-chan that everyone hasn't seen before~ and the result of constant frustration and thinking, I've decided that we should wear the Takarazuka Music School uniforms!!

Coto: First, I need to find my uniform~

Coto: No I mean, it's nostalgic.

Seocchi: I remembered that the two of us used to sit side by side whle having lessons.

Seocchi: While both of us are thinking a lot about what to do, we heard Zun-chan (Sakuragi Minato) having her interview nearby on "What is your dream if you didn't enter Takarazuka!?".

Urara: We heard her answer, "I'm not sure if this is what I really want to do, but maybe the admirable flight attendants?"...

Seocchi: After much thinking...

Reiko: We revived as the anime of "Shonen Ashibe"!! Well, I like Goma-chan. No, not just that, I like seals (LOL).

Seocchi: That's why, Usshi wore a seal costume and searched for various pictures, and found this really cute seal costume, and asked me "how do you think"?

Reiko: No, it's because I said, I want to be a more real seal!!

Seocchi: She seriously ordered this full costume (LOL). How do you feel wearing it?

Reiko: When I actually wear the costume, I can feel it looks fluffier than how Goma-chan was like, (LOL), but I'm really satisfied!!

Seocchi: That's great~ It's a great success that it made Usshi satisfied!

MAY – Seo Yuria X Minami Maito

The fifth guest is Flower Trouope otokoyaku Minami Maito (Maiti) ❀ I wanto see~!! Let'Sewatch the stunning muscles of this girl!!!

~About the theme of our cosplay~

Seocchi: If we talk about Minami, it's muscles!! That's why I immediately think of the muscleman Superman, and we had a meeting over this photoshoot [concept] (LOL).

Maiti: What!? Is my image really like that? I thought (LOL).

Seocchi: No, when we first met, you were skinny!! Then after the summer of being a primary course student (yokasei), I was so shocked (LOL).

Maiti: Right, right, when I came back my uniform seems stiff [from the muscles] (LOL).

Seocchi: I thought, what did Minami do in the summer!!!!! I remember everyone being crazy over it (LOL). That image is too strong, you definitely need to be Superman this time!

Maiti: But, this costume seems too buff (LOL). This is too exaggerated!! Look at the texture of these muscles (LOL)!!!!

Seocchi: How do you feel actually wearing it?

Maiti: No, but it seems easy to turn on the switch to get into character with this kind of costume (LOL).

Seocchi: (LOL). That's great!!

Maiti: Like that "I'm a hero!" kind of vibe. (LOL)

Seocchi: If you feel good about it, you should wear this under your rehearsal clothes next time, and when something happens, you can remove those clothes to reveal yourself as Superman!! Then it would be great!! (LOL)

Maiti: I got it!! If that's necessary, I'll give Seocchi (Seo) a call! Believe in me!!

JUNE – Seo Yuria X Misaki Rion

This month we have our princess from Cosmos Troupe 💕 Let'Sewatch at Misaki Rion (Mirion)~ 👀

Seocchi: We decided easily this time.

Mirion: Yes, yes, I asked Seocchi "Can I be a nurse?"

Seocchi: Surely, I also wish to see how Kumi-chan (Misaki) is as a nurse (LOL).

Mirion: Since I was young', I've admired nurse so I thought, "Nurses are good!!" and decided on the theme quickly.

Seocchi: How does it feel? To be a nurse.

Mirion: I'm very satisfied because it feels my wish is fulfilled! Holding onto the syringe, I felt it was fun to feel how it is for a nurse (LOL). (I also enjoyed seeing Kumi-chan's look as a nurse!!)

Seocchi: I'm also excited because I want to play as a doctor!!!!

Mirion: You seem to really like the stethoscope (LOL).

Fuu-chan: Right!!! My first overseas vacation was at Sebu, and it was really exciting✨✨✨

Seocchi: Every day would be so fun✨ So we decided to wear something we would in these tropical countries! How does the photoshoot feel for Fuu-chan?

Fuu-chan: Well, fun✨ Wearing the aloha shirts, holding on to the ukuleles immediately!!!

Seocchi: I asked you, what do we want to do?

Aasa: We thought about our similarities...

Both: We have a strong visual!!!!

Aasa: Then, we decided on doing [the manga series] "Thermae Romae" and on the day when we wore the costumes, and tried the first photo, and we chekced to find out??????????????

Both: We have a weak visual!!!! (LOL)

Aasa: This is an emergency situation 💦 She quickly came to the dressing room of Moon Troupe since we were performing (LOL).

Seocchi: Yes, I went to Aasa's makeup table and both of us desperately wanted to make up for it.

Seocchi: This time, both of us thought over quite a lot. Then Hiroko suggested, "Should we do baseball [concept]?"

Hiroko: Yes! If you turn on the television, you can see the rankings of Se Ring or Pa Ring, [Hiroshima Toyo] Carp and [Fukuoka] Softbank [Hawks] would be the top positions respectively, and they are baseball leagues of our hometown, so we wore their jerseys✨

Seocchi: Well, I believe when this [October] issue, Carp would definitely win by then!

Hiroko: Softbank too! Because they are so powerful!! If Carp wins, wouldn't that be since then 25 years since their last win?

Seocchi: Amazing! Hiroko knows so much! (LOL) When both teams win, let's celebrate together!

Both: Let's do this!!!

Seocchi: How does it feel wearing this uniform?

Hiroko: No, before wearing it I was already thrilled. I was even more excited to wear it! I was jumping around just thinking of it before Seocchi came! (LOL)

Seocchi: The costumes for today are really surreal! (LOL)

Rei: Really! When I wore it, this was more surreal than I imagined (LOL). It's Christmas when we talk about December, which is why we dressed up like that.

Seocchi: Right! I was thinking if I should do Santa or the reindeer, but she said, "But Santa Claus won't look as funny, right?" (LOL) As expected✨

Rei: (LOL). So we featured supporting characters! But I was surprised because I was surprised because I couldn't do many poses with these costumes (LOL).

Seocchi: Right! That's something we missed out💦 Because [trees and snowman] give off inanimate vibes (Iaughs).

Rei: Even if we act a lot into it, our faces...

Seocchi: Becomes emotionless (LOL).

Rei: It's rare that it was difficult to smile [in this costume] (LOL). Which by the way, I read this corner every month! But I thought, "She doesn't call me a lot....will this end without me...." (LOL).

But, after 7 months of hard work, in September, I finally finished my Hungarian coronation/Wenn ich tanzen will dress from Elisabeth das musical. The dress has a historically accurate 1860's elliptical hoopskirt, the skit is made of 6 m of bridal satin and the skirt overlay and apron feature over 2000 individually sewn on sequins that took a month to complete

Heyyyy. I’m realizing I never posted my Sapphire cosplay photos here.

This was a take based on the manga with some knowledge of Takarazuka costuming. Basically I wanted the vibe to be if a Takarazuka troupe did a Princess Knight show or Revue piece. I also wanted to use as much from my fabrics and trim from my stash as possible.

The pattern is altered from a JSK in Otome no Sewing Book and the rest is drafted by me. The red, jacquard white, and light blue are all thrifted and up cycled materials, with the navy being a long term stash fabric. A good amount of the lace was also thrifted but I don’t remember exactly what. The hat was thrifted and re-styled as well. The sword is my first 3D printed prop.

Tbh, I often cringe when watching live adaptations of SHONEN manga, where they try to recreate impossible things, and then the show looks ridiculous because it's just not believable. I'm not talking about dragons here, but it always feels like cheap cosplay. But live adaptations of SHOJO manga? Absolutely amazing. They feel real. These girls are treated like actual characters, instead of cosplayers that should look exactly like they do on paper.

I generally don't watch live action adaptations because like.... why would I, right?

I think the only live action adaptation I even have in my "to watch" list is the live actions version of "Erased" which is anyway based on a novel so you can't even really say it's an anime adaptation (although I am sure it will follow a lot of the anime's cues). But Erased as a crime mystery with some time travel thrown in. So of course being recreated in live actions isn't a giant jump.

I think also you're talking more about the sad state that shoujo has devolved into in modern time where it essentially means "high school love story". But I can't imagine a lot of classic shoujo working in live action. I cannot even FATHOM what Terra E would look like if they tried to do it with real people. Even Rose of Versailles which easily COULD work in live action only has one film which is generally considered to not be very good, and then is almost exclusively kept to Takarazuka Revue for its live action version. And I think it works because it's a stage play. But Terra E? yeah no way.

It's weird but it makes me think how Sentai shows don't really work in animation which is a weird thought. Because really, sentai shows SHOULD be great for animation and there HAVE been animated versions of sentai. But all that makes sentai what it is was born from the limitation of the live action medium. From the way the monsters look to how the fights play out. So trying to present it authentically in animation makes it look awkward and weird.

(although that being said I am super fucking excited for Monster No.8 but that's it's own thing)

That being said makes me realise I am actually wrong, I HAVE seen a live action adaptation of an anime and it's the sentai show of Sailor Moon. Which looks exactly like its $5 budget would make you think, but it's saved by fantastic writing and taking interesting and brand new steps with the source material. And again, because it's a sentai it somehow works by leaning into the aesthetics of other sentai shows, rather than trying to reflect the original manga or anime.

And also it's AGGRESSIVELY early 2000s which is really charming.

Anyway I'm rambling.

I'm genuinely trying to think of a single live action shounen show I have ever seen which I think actually work but I am drawing a blank.

I named myself after Alex Hirsch and my first theatre director! Alex is a very gender-neutral name, so that's why I picked it!

For sad crying, probably a couple weeks ago, but I was laughing so hard I was crying last week!

Nope. Hate them, never want them, and yeeting my uterus as soon as I can.

I did tee-ball as a little kid and absolutely hated it.

I know this sounds vain, but a lot of the time I'll notice (unintentionally) how much acne they have. Idk it just kinda happens.

Hazelish, but when doing character creators I usually use grey!

Happy endings 110%. I HATE horror movies, except for campy musical ones (LSOH and RHPS, for example).

9. Any talents?

I can make Perler bead sprites without tweezers! I can do them with just my fingertips.

10. Where were you born?

Sewing, crafting, cosplay, writing, reading, playing video games, performing on stage, and learning Japanese!

12. Do you have any pets?

Not at the moment, but my moirail and I want to adopt a Selkirk Rex cat once we get our own place!

5'4"! Or about 163cm for those in metric.

14. Favorite subject in school?

Currently, I'm minoring in Japanese, and it's a lot of fun! But for high school, cooking classes were my favorite!

15. Dream job?

If I can work abroad and be a part of the costuming department for the Takarazuka Revue, I think I can die happy XD

Trying to decide for ALA Masquerade

I have three main options

I'll put the pics/descriptions under a cut but

None of the finished ones have won any awards, of course.

Angela Spellbinder class

This one is a finished cosplay I entered at CRX 2022.

Her. She needs a few minor fixes (wig restyling, horns remade, some small repairs), but is impressive as hell and uses multimedia, which is a plus.

Zuka

This is a finished cosplay I entered at CRX 2021.

I would need to remake her entire corset. She's fun as hell and impressive on stage (sparkly!), but does need some major fixes. It would also be easier to so some sort of performance as her instead of just a walk on.

$100 Sakizo Challenge

This is something I've been wanting to do for several years. Make a Sakizo design for $100 or under, including wigs, shoes, props, fabrics, etc. I have more specific "rules" for myself for it, but those don't matter for deciding haha

It's between a few designs but these are most likely:

It's something I've wanted to do for years and would be a fun and educational challenge. It would also be impressive as hell for a contest to roll up like "look at what I made on a strict budget" (I'd also want to show off haha). The problem here is time -- making this in the next twoish months.
