I love it when Oda ends up being too smart for the translators to notice. Like when they translated "Van Auger" or "Van Augur" as "Van Ogre", because they didn't know "augur" was a word that means "a fortuneteller who sees the future in the flight patterns of birds", which is literally what Van Auger is doing when he first appears.

Hard to tell what’s a mistranslation and what’s been purposefully changed. Even if it’s a genuine mistake, I can’t imagine the person working on the translation got paid much, or had much time to put a lot of effort into their work. Frustrating as it is, I try not to hold it against them too much
