Running around in Andromeda and having to make these cryopod decisions has me thinking a lot again about the strange tendency in a lot of sci-fi to just…. Forget the little things that make a society tick. The people, the jobs, the work done that… without it, sure, maybe we won’t starve, but we’re not…. a Society, y’know? And we sure as hell won’t function half as well.

Who is cutting people’s hair? Who’s fixing the clothes (especially when resources for New Things are so scarce)? Who’s cleaning, and cooking, and looking after kids or others who need help?

Give me more appreciation for the everyday workers in sci-fi, dammit.

#me: andromeda #they do have a couple good moments so far with at least mentioning how its every day hard work in the outposts that are making a difference #but even then its more science and engineering focused #though i am elated theres that one guy on prodromos who explicitly mentions being a civil engineer and #that its a working plumbing system that makes for an actual livable town not just flashy stuff #but for real #gimme a salarian barber who loves working with hair and buffing fringes and keeping everyone feeling more like themselves in the chaos #gimme an asari linecook who is working her ass off to keep outposts fed and coming up w new recipes in all the tight pinches #gimme a turian daycare worker with babs of all species hanging off their arms and tucked in their cowl #while their parents are hard at work making andromeda survivable #gimme angaran and krogan new best friends keeping politicians on their toes in their offices bc janitorial staff knows this mess is a #health and safety hazard ffs #oops my working class solidarity is showinng again #i just want a krogan and salarian workers union to kick tann in the skinny ass a bit about credit and resources where due okay
