Barely into the series & TMNT Adventures gets a soft reboot. It abandons (for now) the Eye Of Sarnath arc, Baxter has gone & Bebop & Rocksteady are back on Earth, with Krang once again funding Shredder.

Adult comic writer Steve Murphy takes over writing duties, under the alias Steve Murphy. Ken Mitchroney establishes himself as lead illustrator, showing off much more personality to the characters with original stories. Mirage legend Jim Lawson illustrates issue 7, which would be by far,his best work on the Archie series.

The comic is still finding its footing, missing issue 8’s January deadline & balancing main characters, new character introductions & story arcs, within limited panel space, but they’ll be callbacks to events featured here, in future issues.

The Man Ray issue is the weakest, as it’s a standalone story, that is far too swift a read, with too many pages of single panels. It’s redeemed only by the fact Man Ray would eventually return. The Turtles barely feature & don’t even know the characters name.

Leatherheads origin issue is balanced better, beginning a loosely connected trilogy, while referencing ‘The Final Conflict’ far too early in the series.

Leatherhead returns, when the Turtles are abducted to Stump Intergalactic Wrestling, introducing the most far out characters in the series or TMNT history.

The concluding issue introduces Wingnut & Screwloose, who paint Krang as far more evil than his cartoon counterpart would allow. It’s the 1st appearance of April & Splinter, since Murphy took over, but a while yet till he’ll know what to do with them.

From Leatherheads fake out death, to reinventing Krang in an issue he doesn’t feature in, Archie hint at darker a TMNT, contrasted with the quirky, colourful art present.

The father, who is Hamato Yoshi, tells his son the 2nd part to the bedtime story.

The Turtles & Yoshi arrive to the Himalayas, outside a hidden temple that houses the final Talisman. Still getting use to human form, Yoshi stays behind, as the Turtles sneak in.

TKO & Psonic have already made their way in, using a map stolen from the Turtles lair. They take a detour to avoid booby traps.

Shredder & Cyberius, look over warring soldiers in the Kyrranian Desert of the Middle East. Their calculations show the alignment of the Talisman must take place in that exact spot. Needing to rid the soldiers, Shredder uses the energy from the 2 Talisman he has, to give himself super strength to single handedly battle all the soldiers, to clear the area.

At the Temple, Don finds the main entrance to the Talisman entrance. But they all fall into the booby traps, narrowly avoiding death through using their ninja skills & weapons.

They make it to the chamber, but find Psonic & TKO, who uses her powers to levitate the Talisman into her hands. Psonic creates instrument energy blasts to attack the Turtles, blowing a hole in the Temple wall. TKO levitates them both to safety as the Talisman’s guardians of violent Monks descend on the Turtles.

Mikey & Leo recede into their shells, so Don & Raph can use them as makeshift snowboards, to sled down the mountain to flee from the Monks & chase after TKO & Psonic, who powers energy blasts, to create an avalanche to finish off the Turtles, who are buried under the snow.

TKO lowers her energy forcefieid, believing the Turtles dead. Mikey leaps from the snow, while smashing both with snowballs. TKO drops the Talisman. She & Mikey race to it, touching it simultaneously. Not meant to be touched by more than one person, it’s mystic energy explodes.

This frees the other Turtles from the snow. They find TKO & Psonic unconscious. Don gets the Talisman, as Leo finds Mikey. Sadly the Talisman powers has reverted his mutation, turning him back into a normal Turtle.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures Issues 58-61.

July 1994 "Adrift" written by Dean Clarrain, illustrated by Chris Allan. "How The Pre-TMNT's Got Their Colours" Plot & illustrated by Brian Thomas, written by Steve Sullivan.

August & September, 94 "Blind Sight pt. 1 & 2" written by Clarrain, illustrated by Allan.

October 94 "Once, Again, Always" written by Clarrain, illustrated by Jim Lawson.

Reprinted in volume 12 of IDW TMNT Adventures 2017.

This was the arc that dealt with the fallout of The Teracide story, which while ended with the Mutanimals deaths avenged, left the fate of many of the survivors up in the air. A blind Mikey has been captured by the coast guard, Don & Leo have gone to rescue them, while it's unsure if the escape ship future Don, the 2 Raph's, Splinter & Ninjara has managed to make it safely back to Earth.

The main conflicts of this story occur in the middle 2 part "Blind Side" with the other issues literally been bookend breather issues. 'How The Pre-TMNT's...' is a prelogue that shows Mikey helpless in a cage, about to be experimented, before he reflects on his childhood in a flashback story, much lighter than previous issues & the predicament he currently finds himself in.

The next issue focuses on his rescue, with the proceeding comic plotted around the other characters returning to Earth, been captured by the military & ultimately escaping & been rescued.

The epilogue issue "Once, Again, Always" illustrated by Lawson, perhaps tries to be the TMNT Adventures equivalent of the final issue of Mirage Comics "City At War" concluding issue, which was also illustrated by Lawson. The loose ends are resolved, with the characters reunited, Future Raph & Don returning to their time & everyone allowed to reflect & return to normality after 9 physically & emotionally challenging issues.

Things starts abruptly with a dishevelled April getting fired from WRTL. It seems her boss isn't too keen on her constant unexplained leave, or absences. While her co-workers are shocked due to her regular award winning journalisms, April begrudgingly understands, accepting she's taken a lot more leave off work since meeting the Turtles.

She reflects back on her day, which began with her, Fu Sheng, Chi Hsi & Oyuki arriving back in New York on their plane from Japan.

April takes Oyuki to her apartment where she'll be living with her. There she listens to several voicemails from work.

On the train to the station, April ponders how to explain what happened in Japan. On the train a masked ninja gang called the Dog Star Gang smash their way through the cart after the train strangely stops. They attack passengers dressed as members of the Chinese Golden Triangle. Fleeing from a smoke bomb launched during the battle, April becomes aware that she & the Golden Triangle seem to be moving in slow motion, while the Ninja's move normally. She manages to throw a stray ninja star - from the battle- at a ninja, causing him to drop his glowing sword. April grabs the sword, allowing her to move at normal speed & fight the Ninja, herself. The Ninja's flee, as the Golden Triangle seize the sword from her.

April realises she didn't exactly help the 'good guys', though the head of the Golden Triangle group, promise her a favour.

The police then show up. Later after been 'fired', April decides to go freelance & investigate the Chinatown gang war with Oyuki as her camerawoman.

The head of the Golden Triangle group, Wing Min approaches his boss with the Dog Star sword & relays their battle. their muscled up boss, who alludes to been immortal, decides to deal personally with his adversary.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Movie, comic adaption. Published by Archie comics Summer 1993. Prestige edition has 48 pages. Newsstand edition has 14 extra pages, all with single frame, full page illustrations.

Adapted by Dean Clarrain & Chris Allan, illustrated by Allan.

This comic was never reprinted in the UK by Fleetway comics, despite the associated movie been the reason they restarted publishing Turtles Adventures after a short sabbatical.

Had the 3rd Turtles movie been a box office success, it's likely the comic adaption may have gotten a late summer/ early autumn printing, but the Turtles brand overall was not in a good place by 93.

This comic actually does the movie more justice than, well the actual movie. With illustrations far better than the awkward animal costumes, the dialogue retooled to be less clunky, most of the dull comedy removed & some better focus on the mythological of the films plot, this comic makes you think it's associated with a better movie.

While it's maybe a shame Jim Lawson doesn't return to conclude the illustrated trilogy, he was uninspired for the adaption of the last movie & more so when filling in on the Archies series. So while he was busy with the Mirage Turtles comic, lead Archies illustrator Allan comes on board.

Due to his more realistic drawing style & contributions to the writing, he was the right choice. He opts to draw the characters closer to the movie versions, than his comic interpretation. It's actual not that distracting, as they still look better than in the movie & in the case of Splinter, is an improvement on both the films version & Allan's in the Adventures comic. Not sure what's going on with Casey Jones, who looks middle aged, even weirder as Elias Koteas played both Casey & Whit in the movie, yet neither look identical in the comic, despite April still referencing their similarities.

Of all the movie comic books, this is the second best. But due to it's short length & been based on a poor film, can't compete with Turtles I.

The Turtles are playing sports in the Turtle lair, as Ninjara - new to it - is finding it impressive.

Then middle aged versions of Don & a 1 eyed Raph, appear through a timeslip, just like what they saw Shredder & Verminator X use. They say they urgently need their help & emotionally bow to Splinter when he walks in. They explain they must come with them to the future.

In the future Shredder & Verminator await Armaggon, a mutated shark creature to arrive from a timeslip. He arrives carrying equipment from Nulls deepdump facility, along with an unconscious Merude sea creature that tried to stop him. A fight almost breaks out between Shredder & Armaggon, upon the shark learning they failed to retrieve the black stone. Verminator calms things when he says he's located an alternative power source for their mission.

Future Don & Raph transport the teenage Turtles, Splinter & Ninjara to the future. After briefly been attacked by Don's security drones, which malfunction upon detecting duplicate Turtles, Don takes them to their lair, a high tech tower in the city, which is now surrounded by high water.

Future Don explains he's become a billionaire through his Turtleco business inventions. They explain to their younger selves Splinter has died of old age.

They then say some time after that, Armaggon infiltrated their lair & tried to steal the experimental timeslip generator. They chased him out into the flooded streets. They had Armaggon beat, until Shredder & Verminator opened fire upon them. Armaggon then launched a torpedo towards them.

Old Raph states he was knocked out by the blast, when he awoke his eye was gone & Mikey & Leo were missing.

Unbeknownst to him, older Leo & Mikey have been captured & sedated in pods, along with Merude, by the trio of villains.

Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles Adventures issue 78 (unlisted) July 1993. Reprint of Archie issue 42, March 1993.

"Future Tense" Plot by Chris Allan & Dean Clarrain. Written by Clarrain & illustrated by Allan.

This begins 'The Future Shark Trilogy' with plot threads set up in issue 7 of Mutanimals, the 2 part Black Stone story from 1992 & later on, an unresolved arc from when the comic was adapting TV episodes.

The Turtles & Ninjara are chilling in the Turtle Lair, with Ninjara still getting use to it, when middle aged versions of Don & - a eye patch wearing - Raph pop through a timeslip.

They ask them & Splinter to come with them to the future where they need their help.

They explain Splinter has died of old age (no mention of what happened to Ninjara till next issue) & Armaggon attacked their lair, along with Verminator X & Shredder, they stole the Timeslip Don invented, captured Leo & Mikey & cost Raph his eye in an explosion, illustrated with black blood, as its a kids comic.

There's a lot going on, with nothing new happening in a plot, that's already moved along quickly before this issue starts, with the old Turtles relaying what's happened to them in flashbacks (or should that be flashforwards).

There's a brief bit of interaction with the three villains, as Armaggon (Allan's design of the character, putting the Mutanimals version to shame) has the unconscious Merude, who you'll completely forget about until part 3.

The young Turtles don't do much, other than avoid a drone attack & listen to their older selves, the latter of which will continue well into part 2, as more backstory (or future story) will be told to them. It feels with all that plot set up, this maybe should have been a 4 parter, just to let the Teenage versions of the Turtles play a more important role in a comic with 'Teenage' in the title.

This is a popular trilogy amongst fans. It definitely feeling more adult, even when put next to previous storylines that treated its readers as more grown up than it needed to.

Shredder seizes the unconscious Splinter from the desert. The Turtles, Ninjara & Al'Falqa approach. With Shredder overmatched a member of his caravan nears & shoots a weapon towards Shredders attackers, forming a bubble force field around them. With them trapped, he takes off a mask to reveal he's a Mutant cyborg cat called Verminator X, from the future.

They grab Splinter & quickly leave. Several hours pass before the forcefield weakens enough so they can force their way out. Al'Falqa sends a falcon out to search for Splinters kidnappers.

Shredder & co. meanwhile are at an Oasis. An awakened Splinter is told Shredders & Verminator X's plan to merge the 2 Stones of Mecca, to achieve immortality. All they need to do is await for their arranged time slip to open up so they can escape.

Verminator notices the falcon & shoots at it. Though wounded it manages to fly back to inform Al'Falqa.

Al'Falqa leads the Turtles through an underground aqueduct, designed to transport water to oasis's.

They arrive in time, but when attacking Shredders men discover they're super foot soldiers. As the battle commences Ninjara fares well against Shredder. She rushes to Splinters aid, but he wants her to do something else.

Despite the Turtles managing to dispatch the foot soldiers, Shredder & Verminator grab Splinter as the time slip opens, putting a gun to his head. With the Turtles unable to advance, Shredder almost takes Splinter with them until Leo informs Shredder of the debt he owes them. Reminded of how they saved his life against Krang (issue 45 UK), Shredder lets Splinter go. However they still take off with the Black Stone, or so they think.

Ninjara - the trained thief's - instructions were to swap the stone for a fake, which she managed. Al'Falqa is relieved & praises Allah, reunited with the real stone.

The Turtles, Splinter, Ninjara & Katmandu are outside the Crystal Palace desperate & confused over the disappearance of the Charlie Llama & his Skeleton Dervish kidnapper.

An approaching pregnant woman called Jang La, saw the skeleton head to a temple in the near distance. Katmandu recognises it as the temple of Mang-Thrasha an evil sorcerer.

Jang - who had travelled to see the Llama so he could be her midwife - goes into labour. Monk Monkeys, who are servants to the Llama arrive to assist to Jang, leaving the Turtles confused as to why they're not concerned about the Llama's disappearance.

Splinter & Don stay to deliver the baby as the others head to Thrasha's temple.

On their journey they're surrounded by blinding mist. Raph & Ninjara get seperated, as the Skeleton Deverish attacks Leo & Mikey. Enraged, at ithurting his new friends, Katmandu smashes the skeleton into pieces, destroying it.

As Raph & Ninjara take a difficult mountain climb to the Temple, the others burst through the doors only to be confronted by Chinese armed guards working with Trasha.

The sorcerer explains to his captives, that the Chinese find the Llama a threat, as he has become too powerful in the hearts of Tibetan Buddhists, they want him to denounce he is the reincarnation of Buddha, making it easier for the Chinese to control them.

Katmandu comforts the frail Llama - who they hold as captive - as he asks after the pregnant Jang.

Just then Raph & Ninjara burst through the window. Leo & Mikey see they're opening & the 4 of them attack the soldiers. But as they win the battle the Llama dies peacefully, with Katmandu by his side. Meanwhile Splinter & Don deliver Jang's baby.

As the Llama has passed away, Trasha believes he got away. This insensitivity gets him a deserved beat down for good measure.

At the Llama's funeral, Splinter concludes from the monkey monks tending to Jang & her newborn, that the Llama has been reincarnated & he'll just have to return in a few years time, when he grows up.

At a military base an old janitor works outside vaulted doors. Back at Terra's Eco base, an intercepted message from the Dator vessel - that had Mikey captured - could be a lead to the whereabouts of Raph & co. Leo gets eveyone up to speed of the events that led to the last time he saw them, speculating what happened to them.

It turns out the 2 Raph's, Future Don, Splinter, Ninjara & Candy's escape ship narrowly evaded been burnt up by the sun, it hurdles towards Earth as Future Don tries navigate it. They're flanked by 2 military jets after entering the Earth's orbit.

They land the ship near a military base & are all taken as prisoner, been led by guards past the old janitor.

After returning home the janitor phones Terra. The code from the Dator vessel is decoded, saying they've been held at Area 51 in Nevada.

The bases General & Dr. Synargo are questioning Don, when young Raph escapes his guards starting a fight. Don slinks away. He soon finds a yellow skinned alien in a cell. Using a hidden lockpick in his shell, he opens the aliens door. However guards intercept Don & lead him back to his cell, unaware the alien's door is open.

The General scolds Raph & Don for their attempted escape. The alien intercepts, subduing the General, by merely taking hold of him. Joining the others they all make an escape attempt, helped by the Janitor, who retrieves their weapons.

They make it outside, only to find Synargo & armed guards waiting for them. However from hillside, Terra, his eco group, the other Turtles, April & Oyuki, surround the base, heavily armed. Terra orders the release of his friends. The General offers a peaceful compromise, the release of his friends if the alien remains. Future Don refuses, but the alien telepathically communicates with him it's the only way they can escape. He agrees, vowing to return as they leave the base.

The evil Null declares he intends to destroy the Earth of today & tomorrow.

The Gang of Four attack & the Turtles, Splinter, Ninjara & Slash charge into battle. The enraged Slash slices of Wasters tongue & arm.

Future Don leads Candy to cover, yo duck from gunfire. As he gathers his thoughts Fists robotic arm reaches in & decks him. As Fist is about to kill Candy, younger Don & Leo make the save.

Candy runs off as Null takes on the form of Mondo Gecko. Candy, thinking her boyfriend is alive runs to him, only for Null to mess with her mind & making her see the Mutanimals trapped in hell. She falls unconscious, as Null back in his true form picks her up & tells Skul & Bean to bring the fight to an end.

Bean tries to drop a bomb on everyone, but Leo knocks it away with a shuriken. Still the aliens make it away on the spaceship with Null & the captured Candy.

Slash shreds Waster into pieces. Holding up what's left of the villains body, they question if the Gang of Four are living organisms at all. Fist & Lynch boast they're thanasoids, cybernetics mixed with flesh. The mutants conclude they're fancy robots, which doesn't conflict their 'no kill' policy & attack with much more fury.

Leo & Raph decapitate fist, While Ninjara crushes the downed Dead-Eye's skull with a rock. With only Lynch left, Future Raph cuts off all his limbs. He offers to spare Lynch if he tells him where Null's gone. Future Raph breaks his promise, but tells the others he got his information.

Null's flown to the dark side of the Moon. While they plan to fly the Jet into space to stop him, Leo & Don say they're going to rescue Mikey. The Future Turtles, Raph Splinter, Ninjara & Slash drop them off in the ocean outside the USCGS, before they flying off to take on Null.

Dead-Eye flies his hovercraft over the ocean. Nearby in a cargo plane, the Turtles, Ninjara & Splinter are stowing away, in their way back to America from Israel.

Ninjara tries to reassure a depressed, blindfolded Mikey that his eyesight will return in a few days.

Suddenly Dead-Eye hits the plane with an energy bolt & it starts to go down. The Turtles tend to theunconscious pilot, but Don's attempts to glide the plane fails & it crashes into the ocean.

Meanwhile the Future Raph & Don, who having discovered the slaughtered bodies of the Mutanimals are confronted by Slash, who remembering battling the Turtles believe they're responsible for killing his friends. He attacks them & almost kills them until Candy runs in to stop him. She explains who killed them. Slash relents & they bury the Mutanimals.

As Candy & Slash grieve, Raph questions Don if them coming back in time led to this, as the Mutanimals were killed much later. Don disagrees as he was always destined to go back in time to build their base.

They take Slash & Candy on Man-Ray's Jet, Don built, intending to take Candy to New York. Remembering their younger selves would be flying back from Israel on his day, they decide to intercept them. By listening to the air traffic control, they hear the plane has crashed & that the pilot & a blind Turtle creature have bern picked up by the coast guard.

This wasn't meant to happen. Anxiously they fly out & find the others clinging to the debri in the ocean. They rescue them before the coastguard arrive. While glad to see the Future Raph & Don, they are shocked & saddened to hear the Mutanimals have been murdered.

They fly the jet to a nearby Sandbar to formulate a plan to rescue Mikey. Just after landing, the demonic winged form of Null emerges from the ocean. He reveals he masterminded the killings of the Mutanimals. Just then the Turtles, Candy, Ninjara, Splinter & Slash are surrounded by the Gang of Four, who Null orders to execute them.

In the Middle East, a demonic cult summon the creature Animus. He summons his spirit to Jerusalem, where the dead sea scrolls are kept. Breaking in, Animus steals the scroll known as 'end of days,' to atain victory.

April & Oyuki make it through a Jerusalem airport, on a work gig to cover an interfaith conference on religious tolerance. They get their heavy trunks of luggage delivered to their room, containing the Turtles, Splinter & Ninjara.

They hide, as a private from Jerusalem military, Ariella Yahuda, visits to tell April she'll be her personal bodyguard escort, during her visit. After she leaves they all hang around in the room, until Splinter notices a news alert of a nearby riot. The impending religion convention, has resulted in the different faiths violently attacking each other. Amongst the fighters are Turtles allies, Katmandu & Al-Falqa.

Knowing something sinister is afoot, especially from the blank look in everyone's eyes, they all head to the door, to investigate. However Ariella is there to stop April & Oyuki from leaving, for their own safety. Meanwhile the Turtles & co. sneak out the window.

They make it down to street level, where their efforts to halt the violent fighting, prove futile, as there's too many, who can't be reasoned with. Mikey tries to halt someone throwing a bottle bomb towards a car. It's too late, he takes the brunt of the explosion & is thrown to the ground. Animus spirit hovers over, cackling.

Intent on halting the chaos, Ariella magically transforms herself into a scaly blue skinned creature, as she calls forth the spirit of the Golani.
