SPOLIERS FOR OFMD SEASON 2 FINALE
Izzy's death has me PISSED, y'all.
They really set him up to grow in this season, to live through absolute hell and come out on the other side stronger, softer, more open, and then took that away? Izzy strikes me as this man who has always had to survive, never being able to truly relax, to live, and this season we get to see him let down his guard a little. We get to see him bonding with the crew, easing up. We got him in a GORGEOUS drag look, inching himself into unfamiliar, exhilarating new waters, and then the finale comes along and suddenly he's ready to die? It doesn't sit right with me.
Izzy should've been fighting tooth and nail to make it out on the other side. He should've been dragging his ass out of purgatory like the indestructible little fucker he's been shown to be. ESPECIALLY after his speech to that pathetic little no nose punk ass bitch. He found his family, he found a soft place to rest a little. And yes, I get the argument can be made that with Izzy in the picture, Ed might not have ever been able to let go of Blackbeard. But to me, that argument is undercut when Ed and Stede leave the fucking crew behind anyway to open their inn! I'm happy for those two, of course, but they couldn't have done it anyway and let Izzy fuck off with the crew? Izzy literally told Ed he was surrounded by people who love him, and then Ed promptly fucks off with ONE of them and let's the others sail off.
To be clear, I'm not too upset with Ed and Stede staying behind. I don't think Ed could be himself on the waters, tbh, so that was probably the best call. He's been sailing the seas for years as Blackbeard, so it makes sense that when he reinvents himself, he goes to land, sure. Stede following is a little strange to me, but I do get that he wants to be with Ed, and right now I'm focused on Izzy, so I'll let that slide.
TLDR; I don't know who tf they buried bc Israel Hands is alive and well, even if I have to write it into being myself.
But to make the catalyst for this decision the death of a character you spent an ENTIRE SEASON redeeming and making people adore (I've been an Izzy stan since day one, but I do get not liking him) just doesn't sit right with me. And his death didn't even feel that impactful. We get a short, quiet scene of them passing his cross, Ed hardly looking bothered despite crying over him when he died, and then we jump straight to a wedding!
