𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠: g5 luffy × gn!reader 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨/𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐬: 1717 wc, spoilers for wano... kinda? sfw, fluff, all fluff. a lil' goofy, plot is kinda w a c k y, kaido almost kills you but not in the way you think — and i can't he just looks so silly 'n lovely. i wanna hug him so bad 'n swing him around like a whip. look at him, LOOK. and dripping divider by @ benkeibear !! 𝐬𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬: as the fight continues, you can't help but worry for luffy. you decide to reach him... and you realize it was stupid of you to think he'd be in trouble.
Tumblr media
"Luffy!"
Specks of dust littered everywhere. Debris replaced what were once massive boulders, crumbling beneath the force of one of the Emperors of the Sea and the man who would one day become the King of Pirates; your captain.
Your eyes widened at just how battered the top of Onigashima was. You shouldn't expect any less from them, but it still baffled you. They were so unbelievably strong. So strong you couldn't help but be worried.
You believed in Luffy, of course, you did. But when fighting such monsters... even he could have a hard time. So you made it your job to reach the top floor and get to him, the same medicine Zoro was infused with resting in your hands (you stole it) — it was no easy task and probably the dumbest thing you could ever think of, but somehow, you managed to do it. Surprise overtook you before as guards were taken out by a surge of haki coming from above; one that managed to shake you too. It was tremendous. You felt a little light-headed from it, but thankfully you handled it well.
As tremendous as it was, you could tell who it was from. It wasn't from Kaido, no. Some of the shockwaves you felt before had violence, brutality, and bloodthirsty intent oozing from them. This one, however, was very different; almost... warm.
Then, you reached the top. And here you are.
Other than the landscape, the air around you was rather chilly. Distinct from inside, another dimension altogether. Too cold, somehow refreshing. A shudder traveled down your spine, goosebumps all over your skin. The moon above was lustrous, the sky limpid and not as bleak as before. You felt at peace.
Which was weird considering...
"OOOOH!"
There was a dragon coming right towards you.
"... H—huh?"
Jaw slackened, eyes widening — your expression morphed from concerned to straight-up comical in less than a second. There was Kaido, in all of his glory, flying in your direction at probably a thousand kilometres per second and you remained still, not even running because whether you did sprint away from him or not the outcome was still the same. Death.
That one time you do something dumb you regret it. How could you possibly dodge that gargantuan lizard? You were an ant compared to him — wait, were you dreaming or he looked as shocked as you? — you were done for.
"AAAAAAAH!!"
Screams tore from both of your lungs in unison. Then, the ground beneath you turned... malleable, making you lose your balance and fall — the long blue dragon right above you crashing in a nearby pillar, pebbles and rocks scattering like fireworks. You, on the other hand, were sent in the air thanks to the elastic pavement.
Boing, boing, boing.
Perhaps luck was on your side... strangely enough. The floor felt oddly comfortable; soft yet stiff, the texture not at all feeling like dirt and rocks. Groaning, you pushed yourself up, shaking your pulsing head, the ache faintly going away.
"Heeeeey!"
Then, a call; one that made you snap your neck with how swiftly you looked up. Not just a sound. It's him.
Your pupils dilated at the sight — he was so... different. And yet, it was still him.
"Oh? Oooh? Is that you? It's you! It's you!"
How sweet his voice,
"It's youu~ it, is, you!"
how warm his presence,
"Look at me, look at me! Heeeey! Look at me!"
how lovely he himself.
"Ah..."
"Shishishi! You're looking!"
Your heart might've stopped at that moment. Did he know? He seemed to know. Grinning, laughing, ah, he's coming closer and closer. Luffy, Luffy...
The little mantra in your head replayed in your mouth, his name slipping out unconsciously — the corners of his lips curving up; broad, glowing, and so so familiar, so comforting. His hair seemed velvetlike to the touch... Perhaps it resembled rubber? No, marshmallows. He was a big marshmallow right now. Was he even real?
"Yeah! That's me! It's me!" twirling, bouncing, flailing around; he did not stop at all. Oh, no, he didn't — not until he saw you laugh. Not until he heard that precious sound. He had to do it now that you were here. You were worried, weren't you? He could tell. That slight inclination of your brows — He had to ease you!
There was nothing to worry about.
... If only he knew you were just analysing him with extreme concentration.
"See? See?"
He spread wider and wider, his arms suddenly changing course and going straight towards you — at the speed of light. He's so, so energetic for no reason. But he always was, wasn't he? And you've always loved it.
"Luffy..."
You wanted to ask what happened to him. How he felt, how he was, what he was, what was going on. But nothing left your lips, other than a breathless, inaudible mumble of his name. It made him laugh, and with that same buoyant tone, he shouted yours. You could not help but melt further.
"Yeah! It's me, it's me!"
It's him. Luffy. The tottery wobble of your knees quickly became a full-on quake, you couldn't move, you just couldn't. He seemed to — no, he knew. Your brief struggle, your sudden hypnosis.
At that moment, something, in the back of his mind, called to him,
"Come to me. Please come to me."
And it oddly resembled your voice. It came from his heart. Instinct, perhaps — plain as that. Who was he to not follow it, he who always did? It was alright. You didn't have to move at all. He'll come to you.
"I'm coming there! I'm right there!"
His hands finally grasped your shoulders after he yelled. So precious, so... silly. Yes, it's him. He hurled himself like a rocket, just to briskly stop right before you, his face now smashed against yours. His appearance was so different... so adorable. He will always, and inevitably, be him,
"Luffy."
"Shishishi! Hey! Hello!"
Not even Heaven could compare to him. Nothing could compare to him.
The biggest grin on the planet — his cheeks, faintly pink and so warm under your palms, were crinkled as he showed all the rows of his teeth. Dazzling, rotund vermilion eyes met yours, twinkling moreso at the sight of you. You looked so pretty right now. Did you know? He always thought you looked pretty. But you had something different now, something he couldn't describe with words. Though his tongue wouldn't collaborate, he could tell it was positive. You... you're—
"You look weird!" ironic how he spurted out those words when he's the one that metamorphosed. Even his clothes... once a vibrant red, now a blinding white.
"Ah... it's just — you're..."
"Me?"
Luffy tilted his head, his grin remaining. "You're wonderful, lovely, ethereal," is what you wanted to say if only your voice hadn't failed you, stuck in your throat, struggling to be liberated. A few moments passed, your mouth agape and your captain happily waiting. Then,
"You're..." something came out, "so, so...  beautiful, Luffy. I can't... you know?"
Ah, there it is.
See, he knew! And so, he laughed. And laughed, and laughed, and laughed; boisterous, contagious laughter that never, ever ends, the one you could hear every time you were down, for he would always bolt there where you sat, no matter what. A constant reminder that you were never alone. He will always be with you.
"Hehehe. I do!" chuckles and giggles seeped from his sentences, rending them clipped and broken. So warm, so warm — your chest mimicked his soon enough, sweet laughter bubbling from your throat too, lighting him up. If a fire was in his heart, now there was a whole festival. Your voice was so, so..! You know?
"You, pff, you do?"
"Yeah! Hahaha, I do! I do!"
If anyone were to see you both, they'd probably think you were out of your minds. You could picture it, your friends scolding you both, just to laugh after too. It was, so normal, so simple, yet it made you smile even more, and that caused him to do so too.
And then, then, he couldn't help himself; please forgive him, okay? He really couldn't help it! Those limbs that stretched so far to grab you, were now enveloping you both like a cute little present — hehe, a cute little present! — getting tighter and tighter, but not too much, just perfectly. Torso heaving up and down, his curious, rough yet tender hands coming to rest on your cheeks, his chortles fortissimo as he poked, pressed, squished them; nimble fingers pinching and pulling the skin, making you giggle even more. It did nothing to ease the heat within you, oh no it didn't. There was only more. More, more and more.
Was he greedy? (He was,) Look at you — you were so happy! You're enjoying it! You're laughing! He wanted to see you happy, always. The crew, his friends, you, you...
Maybe he was a little greedy (so greedy.) But for you, he'd gladly be.
"Oh, Lulu... Luffy!"
"Yeah!! Yes! Heheeheh!"
You both managed to pepper each other with some kisses — his giggles so cute and mellow — before the reality of the situation struck you both. The enemy's sluggish roar rang in both of your ears,
"Oi, Strawhat! What the hell are you doing, getting all kissy-kissy with your partner? I thought we were fighting!"
Right. Your captain was supposed to free this country. You both forgot.
"Oh, right! Kaido!" he perked up, untangling himself from you and shifting his attention to the enormous blue reptile, "Sorry, I got distracted. It'll take no time, just watch!" he tenaciously said, though a noticeable pout was on your lover's face.
"Y—yes, Lu... Go kick his ass." you muttered dreamily, a dumb dopey grin on your face, as you watched your boyfriend building a weird-looking cage with the floor to "protect" you before goofily walking up to Kaido, bouncing around in a frenzy like a spring.
All that was left was the show. And boy... did you have fun watching him beat that overgrown reptile up — your cackles fuelling the Warrior of Liberation. Soon, he'll hear the others, too. Soon, everyone's laughter will echo in this land, free from torment. He'll have a big, delicious banquet with you...
And all will certainly rejoice.

So! I put on my research cap and looked up all the dex entries for Gigantamax pokemon (at least the ones available in the game so far). We know from all dex entries from other pokemon, they don’t shy away from telling us if they’re in pain one way or another.
This goes for base forms and Mega Evolutions.
Now I present to you, all the entries
Under a read more because this is fricken long
Duraludon - It's grown to resemble a skyscraper. Parts of its towering body glow due to a profusion of energy. (Sword) The hardness of its cells is exceptional, even among Steel types. It also has a body structure that's resistant to earthquakes. (Shield)
Copperajah - So much power is packed within its trunk that if it were to unleash that power, the resulting blast could level mountains and change the landscape. (Sword) After this Pokémon has Gigantamaxed, its massive nose can utterly demolish large structures with a single smashing blow. (Shield)
Alcremie - Cream pours endlessly from this Pokémon's body. The cream stiffens when compressed by an impact. A harder impact results in harder cream. (Sword) It launches swarms of missiles, each made of cream and loaded with 100,000 kilocalories. Get hit by one of these, and your head will swim. (Shield)
Grimmsnarl - By transforming its leg hair, this Pokémon delivers power-packed drill kicks that can bore huge holes in Galar's terrain. (Sword) Gigantamax energy has caused more hair to sprout all over its body. With the added strength, it can jump over the world's tallest building. (Shield)
Hatterene - This Pokémon can read the emotions of creatures over 30 miles away. The minute it senses hostility, it goes on the attack. (Sword) Beams like lightning shoot down from its tentacles. It's known to some as the Raging Goddess. (Shield)
Centiskorch - Gigantamax energy has evoked a rise in its body temperature, now reaching over 1,800 degrees Fahrenheit. Its heat waves incinerate its enemies. (Sword) The heat that comes off a Gigantamax Centiskorch may destabilize air currents. Sometimes it can even cause storms. (Shield)
Sandaconda - Its sand pouch has grown to tremendous proportions. More than 1,000,000 tons of sand now swirl around its body. (Sword) Sand swirls around its body with such speed and power that it could pulverize a skyscraper. (Shield)
Appletun - It blasts its opponents with massive amounts of sweet, sticky nectar, drowning them under the deluge. (Sword) Due to Gigantamax energy, this Pokémon's nectar has thickened. The increased viscosity lets the nectar absorb more damage than before. (Shield)
Flapple - Under the influence of Gigantamax energy, it produces much more sweet nectar, and its shape has changed to resemble a giant apple. (Sword) If it stretches its neck, the strong aroma of its nectar pours out. The scent is so sickeningly sweet that one whiff makes other Pokémon faint. (Shield)
Coalossal - Its body is a colossal stove. With Gigantamax energy stoking the fire, this Pokémon's flame burns hotter than 3,600 degrees Fahrenheit. (Sword) When Galar was hit by a harsh cold wave, this Pokémon served as a giant heating stove and saved many lives. (Shield)
Drednaw - It responded to Gigantamax energy by becoming bipedal. First it comes crashing down on foes, and then it finishes them off with its massive jaws. (Sword) In the Galar region, there's a tale about this Pokémon chewing up a mountain and using the rubble to stop a flood. (Shield)
Orbeetle - Its brain has grown to a gargantuan size, as has the rest of its body. This Pokémon's intellect and psychic abilities are overpowering. (Sword) If it were to utilize every last bit of its power, it could control the minds of every living being in its vicinity. (Shield)
Corviknight - Imbued with Gigantamax energy, its wings can whip up winds more forceful than any a hurricane could muster. The gusts blow everything away. (Sword) The eight feathers on its back are called blade birds, and they can launch off its body to attack foes independently. (Shield)
Garbodor - Due to Gigantamax energy, this Pokémon's toxic gas has become much thicker, congealing into masses shaped like discarded toys. (Sword) It sprays toxic gas from its mouth and fingers. If the gas engulfs you, the toxins will seep in all the way down to your bones. (Shield)
Snorlax - Gigantamax energy has affected stray seeds and even pebbles that got stuck to Snorlax, making them grow to a huge size. (Sword) Terrifyingly strong, this Pokémon is the size of a mountain—and moves about as much as one as well. (Shield)
Eevee - Gigantamax energy upped the fluffiness of the fur around Eevee's neck. The fur will envelop a foe, capturing its body and captivating its mind. (Sword) Having gotten even friendlier and more innocent, Eevee tries to play with anyone around, only to end up crushing them with its immense body. (Shield)
Lapras - Over 5,000 people can ride on its shell at once. And it's a very comfortable ride, without the slightest shaking or swaying. (Sword) It surrounds itself with a huge ring of gathered ice particles. It uses the ring to smash any icebergs that might impede its graceful swimming. (Shield)
Kingler - The flow of Gigantamax energy has spurred this Pokémon's left pincer to grow to an enormous size. That claw can pulverize anything. (Sword) The bubbles it spews out are strongly alkaline. Any opponents hit by them will have their bodies quickly melted away. (Shield)
Gengar - Rumor has it that its gigantic mouth leads not into its body, filled with cursed energy, but instead directly to the afterlife. (Sword) It lays traps, hoping to steal the lives of those it catches. If you stand in front of its mouth, you'll hear your loved ones' voices calling out to you. (Shield)
Machamp - The Gigantamax energy coursing through its arms makes its punches hit as hard as bomb blasts. (Sword) One of these Pokémon once used its immeasurable strength to lift a large ship that was in trouble. It then carried the ship to port. (Shield)
Meowth - The pattern that has appeared on its giant coin is thought to be the key to unlocking the secrets of the Dynamax phenomenon. (Sword) Its body has grown incredibly long and the coin on its forehead has grown incredibly large—all thanks to Gigantamax power. (Shield)
Pikachu - Its Gigantamax power expanded, forming its supersized body and towering tail. (Sword) When it smashes its opponents with its bolt- shaped tail, it delivers a surge of electricity equivalent to a lightning strike. (Shield)
Butterfree - Crystallized Gigantamax energy makes up this Pokémon's blindingly bright and highly toxic scales. (Sword) Once it has opponents trapped in a tornado that could blow away a 10-ton truck, it finishes them off with its poisonous scales. (Shield)
Charizard - This colossal, flame-winged figure of a Charizard was brought about by Gigantamax energy. (Sword) The flame inside its body burns hotter than 3,600 degrees Fahrenheit. When Charizard roars, that temperature climbs even higher. (Shield)
Tumblr media
Now I know that these could change if we ever get SwSh2 but at the current point in time, this is our info
None of the dex entries say anything about these creatures being in any pain. They gain special abilities and have even helped humans who have been in trouble while they were in those forms.
I’d say that Dynamaxing and Gigantamaxing aren’t as harmful as some might think.

Scientists Discover Massive ‘Pipeline’ in the Cosmic Web Connecting the Universe
If you peer into the deep reaches of time and space to glimpse the universe when it was just a few billion years old, you’ll see an ancient era populated by many massive galaxies. Simulations suggest these galactic behemoths must have been fed by cold gas in dark matter filaments—structures that make up the cosmic web that connects galaxies in the universe—but the nature of these gas infusions has remained murky in the absence of direct observations.
Now, scientists led by Hai Fu, an associate professor of astronomy at the University of Iowa, have spotted what they describe as a “pipeline” gas filament feeding an enormous galaxy that formed when the universe was 2.5 billion years old, about one fifth of its current age.
The discovery, which was years in the making, confirms long-standing models that suggest star-forming material is delivered to huge galaxies via these cosmic filaments, according to a study published on Wednesday in the Astrophysical Journal.
“This is by far the best evidence we have” for the mysterious gas streams, said Fu in an email. While previous studies have detected possible filaments in the past, they weren’t able to capture detailed chemical information “to support their origin as inflows,” he added.
Fu and his colleagues, in contrast, were able to identify the chemical signatures of the gas stream in the galaxy they studied, thanks to the very rare and fortuitous alignment of giant luminous bodies around it. The galaxy, which is known as SMM J0913, is part of a larger cosmic neighborhood that contains two radiant quasars, which are special galactic cores that are among the most brightest phenomena in the universe.
Because the two quasars are located behind SMM J0913 from our perspective on Earth, the brilliant objects backlight the foreground galaxy, enabling Fu’s team to view never-before-seen details of the gas stream that nourishes this growing entity.
“The stream stood out in silhouette against two bright quasars,” Fu explained.

Using spectral information captured by the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA), currently the largest radio telescope on Earth, the team probed the abundance of chemicals in the filament.
The results showed that the stream lacked heavy elements such as aluminum, carbon, iron, and magnesium. Since the environment inside massive galaxies like SMM J0913 is constantly being enriched with heavy elements, which are spewed out by the explosion of stars, this telltale hint demonstrated that the gas was getting piped in from outside of the galaxy, from a depleted environment.
Cosmic simulations have proposed that these narrow filaments can explain how cold gas gets pumped into galaxies without being disrupted by the hot atmospheric surroundings of such gargantuan entities. But actually detecting these filaments is a tough hurdle to clear; Fu and his colleagues pored over observations of 70,000 galaxies over a period of five years before they tracked down the perfect system that contained SMM J0913.
“The understanding of the system took many years, so it has been a gradual realization synthesizing data from various telescopes,” he said. He added that he was excited when “the final piece of the jigsaw puzzle was in place” and felt “a tremendous relief” when he received the spectral information from ALMA that confirmed SMM J0913 was the exact right type of galaxy needed to illuminate this question.
“It showed that I didn't waste the precious telescope time and we indeed found something interesting,” Fu added.
While the new study represents a breakthrough in our understanding of how massive galaxies formed in the early universe, there’s still plenty of work left to be done. The team only looked at two points along the stream, leaving room for follow-up studies to attempt to “see its full physical extent,” Fu said, which he hopes to attempt to do in March using the Keck Observatory atop Mauna Kea in Hawaii.
“In the long term, we would need to find more streams around other massive galaxies,” he concluded, “and I wonder how we can achieve that efficiently, using existing telescopes.”
