Our last day in Singapore and it turned out to be a beautiful sunny morning. • Lunch @canchita_sg with a few friends for some pisco sours, ceviche, anticuchos, arroz con mariscos and cochinito. One restaurant I wish they had in Dubai is @lukesoysterbar - a classic shellfish and steak restaurant. (There’s a similar one in Dubai that tries but the food just isn’t as good for all the fuss around it). • At Luke’s the place is cozy, the service is courteous and best of all, the food is always very good. • We went twice during the week we were here on Sunday night for their excellent blue label burgers with some fries, kale salad and a velvety Pinot noir from New Zealand. • Tonight, we came back and had their clams casino and a classic Caesar salad followed by a medium-rare char-grilled USDA prime ribeye with more of their hot crispy old-bay and fried sage flavored fries. • Dessert is always the warm chocolate chip cookies with a stout milkshake (for adults) and a vanilla milkshake for kids. • Luke’s was always a family favorite when we lived here and continues to be one. I never skip a visit to what used to be my Singapore “canteen” way back when @malcolmleeee first opened his tiny restaurant on Neil road in 2010 to when they got bigger and moved over to New Bridge road and finally here at #DempseyHill where they earned their #MicelinStar • Todays lunch was full of flavor memories and we had three of their original dishes: wing bean salad, blue swimmer crab curry and their assam sotong. Always the cendol and kueh salat for dessert. Glad to see the same “uncle” who’s been serving there ever since is still at the restaurant. Third on the list of my usual food stops in Singapore is the #cheapandcheerful Thai street food restaurant in Far East Plaza. They started out as a tiny counter in the corner of the second floor surrounded by nail salons. They added a few more tables and finally moved to a larger, brighter space still on the same floor. The food has stayed consistent throughout and so have the reasonable prices. Hidden away on the top floor of @tangssg department store is Indonesian restaurant @dancingfish.sg All three of us having lunch there had lived in Indonesia for some time (they in Jakarta, me in Bali) so we had high expectations. We ordered the emping crackers with sambal, two salads: belimbing and green mango, fern leaves in coconut milk, fried soft shell crab in sweet chili sauce, cumi bakar (grilled squid) and bebek goreng (deep-fried duck) served with unlimited steamed rice. Everything was authentic - from the spice mixes to the chili dips, from the perfectly crispy half duck to the smoky sweet grilled squid, from the batik patterns on the menus covers to the coconut wood bowls for the chips.
