@iressent was rereading The Girl in the Tower (the R/WBY in-world fairytale of Salem) and pointed out Ozpin's remark:
“It is the storyteller who decides where a tale begins and when it ends, and if you look far enough ahead, even a story with a happy ending may reveal itself as a tragedy, and heroes may turn out to be villains. Hopefully, the reverse is also true.”
So, as much as I don't like referring to extracanon materials, given that this is supposed to be a fairytale in-universe (and not merely supplementary), um, what the entire fuck? This is literally Reverse Ozlem. And about redemption.
It's also of course incredibly weird for me because the most literal rendering of Reverse Ozlem, outside of Ozlem itself, is Knightfall.
Basically my evolving thesis is actually kind of coherent.

IC Markets vs FP Markets
IC Markets vs FP Markets
If you are reading this article, you’re likely having trouble deciding whether FP Markets or IC Markets is the better Forex trading platform for you. While both platforms generally provide positive user experiences, there are some essential differences to note.To get more news about ic markets, you can visit wikifx.com official website.
In this FP Markets vs IC Markets review, we outline the highlights of each trading platform to help you make a more informed decision. We evaluate:FP Markets and IC Markets are two of the best multi-asset brokers operating out of Australia. Upgraded MT4/MT5 trading platforms are available at both brokers alike, while FP Markets also provides its proprietary trading platform Iress, and IC Markets has the ECN trading platform cTrader. MAM/PAMM accounts supporting retail account management are equally available, together with VPS hosting for automated traders. FP Markets and IC Markets also feature social and copy trading solutions. Extending the similarities among both brokers is an excellent commission-based pricing environment and maximum leverage of 1:500.
Security and Trust Both brokers maintain a clean regulatory track record and represent a secure, trustworthy trading environment to clients with good transparency. The Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC) is the primary regulator of FP Markets and IC Markets. Both maintain operating subsidiaries regulated by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC). Most international traders at FP Markets will deal with the unregulated entity operating out of St. Vincent & the Grenadines versus the IC Markets entity with a license and oversight from the Seychelles Financial Services Authority (FSA). Both brokers segregate client deposits and implement negative balance protection.
IC Markets vs FP Markets – Verdict There are many similarities between FP Markets and IC Markets, two of the best online brokers out of Australia, one of the most competitive trading jurisdictions globally. Traders get upgraded MT4/MT5 trading platforms at both brokers, but IC Markets takes a notable lead with one of the best upgrade packages among all brokers. MAM/PAMM accounts, VPS hosting, and social trading solutions are available at both brokers. IC Markets also provides cTrader as a competitive alternative, while FP Markets has its proprietary Iress trading platform. Regrettably, it is not available to all traders, which has a significant negative impact on the overall asset selection. It provides IC Markets an additional edge, where all clients receive equal treatment. Both brokers offer one of the best commission-based cost structures, where FP Markets takes the lead with a smaller commission. Overall, IC Markets maintains a marginal edge over FP Markets.

LTV restrictions dominate broker criteria searches
Tumblr media
Covid-19 maximum loan-to-value restrictions was the most searched-for criteria by brokers in both the residential and buy-to-let sector in May, according to Knowledge Bank’s latest tracker. In the residential market “Covid-19: furloughed workers” was the second most popular search term as brokers grappled with lenders’ changes to affordability rules. Second charge brokers also focussed their searches on maximum LTVs and temporary restrictions to LTVs as a result of Covid. In the equity release market each of the top five broker searches changed between April and May illustrating the wide range of borrowers considering later life mortgages. Top equity release searches included: “married couple application in single name”, “flat roofs” and ‘lodger/boarder/rent a room”. Knowledge Bank lender relationship manager Matthew Corker says: “The market is clearly going through a seismic change, with both lenders’ criteria and borrowers’ circumstances undergoing rapid shifts. “As the ‘new normal’ begins to take shape, brokers are going to need to have their wits about them – and make use of all the tools they have available – to keep pace with the changes, and continue to provide their clients with the best possible service.” Tenet Group is to provide its network members and directly-authorised clients with access to Knowledge Bank’s mortgage criteria search system. Knowledge Bank holds more than 100,000 criteria from over 200 lenders enabling brokers to search criteria across the residential, buy-to-let, equity release, self-build, second charges, bridging, commercial and overseas mortgage markets. Knowledge Bank chief executive Searches for ‘Covid-10: temporary maximum LTV restrictions’ topped four mortgage categories in April, shows new data from Knowledge Bank. The search string was number one for residential, buy-to-let, second charge and bridging. Within the residential category, ‘Internal/AVM/desktop valuations’ came second, followed by ‘Covid-10: furloughed workers.’ In BTL, the second position was also based around valuations, Users of Iress’ Xplan Mortgage software are now able to check mortgage product criteria using Knowledge Bank. Aldermore partners with technology firms Iress and Twenty7Tec
Aldermore, the specialist finance lender, has partnered with technology firms Iress and Twenty7Tec to streamline electronic application submissions.
The lender has consolidated the systems via the DPR Distribution Hub, which connects directly to the bank’s broker portal.
The partnership aims to benefit brokers with faster application submissions and increased adviser efficiency by the hub’s ability to produce accurate European Standard Information Sheet documents, automatic creation and population of customer data, and by receiving a DIP through the adviser’s system.
Iress’s Lender Connect gathers all relevant customer application data in the software, and transfers it straight to Aldermore’s broker portal through the use of an API.
The software automatically populates up to 80% of a DIP cutting down on rekeying, errors and unnecessary work.
Aldermore and CloudTwenty7’s partnership will allow brokers to upload cases via the platform and instantly transfer them to the Distribution Hub to Aldermore’s broker portal via API.
Brokers are able to quickly submit the DIP applications to Aldermore via the system, avoiding duplication with the streamline of cases. DIP decisions will then be sent back to the CloudTwenty7 platform where they are accessible to the user.
The broker portal will also display case information post-DIP, to assist in the completion of the full application.
Jon Cooper, head of mortgage distribution at Aldermore, said: “Technology is what will drive our industry in the future and this is a milestone in Aldermore’s digitalisation journey to deliver a streamlined end-to-end broker experience. The specialist lending space deals often with complex cases, so it is important that we focus on ways to improve and speed up the process so brokers can get the best outcomes for customers.
“We have partnered with DPR, Twenty7Tec and Iress as all are leading the way in achieving a more connected mortgage market for everyone. They provide streamlined solutions that quicken and simplify the journey allowing for more accurate information between brokers and lenders. We are delighted with the collaborative approach both sourcing system providers and DPR brought to this project, and we will continue to work closely with them in the future to improve our processes for our brokers.”
James Tucker, CEO of Twenty7Tec, commented: “The integration of our CloudTwenty7 platform with Aldermore and DPR perfectly exemplifies the determination of these three businesses to lead the way in delivering innovative technology to the mortgage market. I have no doubt that our intermediary users will embrace the opportunity to significantly reduce the time it takes to both submit and receive a decision on a specialist lending case with this integration.”
Andrew Simon, executive general manager of products at Iress, added: “Our vision is to bring the industry together, regardless of what technology platform is being used, and this collaboration is a prime example. Aldermore’s integration of Lender Connect – and the collaborative approach – makes the mortgage journey far more efficient, speeding up and simplifying the process for both the customer and the broker. We look forward to continuing our work with Aldermore in support of a more connected mortgage market.”

Ooh, your post reminded me. Can we expect to get Raven mothering Cinder scenes in the Skimming Eye?? Even though Sun and Neptune are also minor characters, I’m wondering how they’ll interact with Jaune after they teased him in Chapter 8!! lol
Hi iressent, hope you're having a good one. (:
Can we expect to get Raven mothering Cinder scenes in the Skimming Eye??
I can't really answer that, but let me skirt around it: I think the relationship of the Maidens is specifically very interesting, and Raven in particular since she's the Mother of the Mother/Maiden/Crone motif.
So, because Skimming Eye is essentially a fanfic of pure self-indulgence and canon curiosity, things I talk about on my blog probably have some possibility of cropping up in my fic. (: At this point in the story, the Maidens are all in unique positions compared to canon, and I really want to explore the Maidens in a slightly less antagonistic way than they currently are in the show. I also think all of them are very funny together.
Even though Sun and Neptune are also minor characters, I’m wondering how they’ll interact with Jaune after they teased him in Chapter 8!! lol
Lol that's so cute XD Yes, there is actually something which might pop up in the chapter like that, so good timing. (:
Personally I love seeing Jaune interrogated about his feelings in that friendly ways friends can do, and I otherwise love him ruminating upon the drama of it all. I don't like playing too much into that fanficcy trope which is not very confluent with the way other people actually respond to other peoples' personal lives, though. I try to keep it organic. (:
Thank you for your ask and continual loveliness about my fic, it's really appreciated. <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

Canon is a bit weird for the mangas, as its stated that everything in the manga is canon unless something contradicts the show canon. Since there’s nothing disproving The Prince and Me, it’s canon! :)
Hi iressent, thanks for your ask.
I appreciate you reminding me. I just think I got too excited though, it's probably nothing.
Hope college is going well!

What are your thoughts on Penny Polendina? And do you think there's any chance of her coming back?
I angsted over this ask for a while. I'm mostly just going to couch my response in this: this is my personal interpretation more than anything, and what I think they're trying to do with themes of life, death, and renewal. Making Penny the Winter Maiden was one of my favourite things about V7.
I wasn't big on Penny to begin with. I thought she was fine enough and I liked that Ruby had a friendship outside of the main four, but there was nothing compelling to me about her character, mostly because I don't find that archetype interesting in a fantasy setting. When she died I was a bit like oooh okay we're doing this! I wasn't sure if she were going to come back but when they did it, it did feel right, and Penny ended up being one of the highlights for V7 for me, and V8.
She does that Rose Tico thing, where she's not a major character, but she embodies a major theme of the text - 'That's how we're gonna win, not by fighting what we hate, but saving what we love,' vs. taking a moment during the conflict to ask Fria if she's okay. Fria had been passed around like a non-person, just like Penny, because of her Maidenhood and elder abuse. She had been completely isolated and kept out of contact from anybody except Winter. Ironically, because of Winter's friendship with Penny (and of course Ruby, everybody who managed to make contact with her), Penny is actually able to make a very powerful act of compassion. It's probably one of my favourite parts of the show.
Tumblr media
And the irony here, too, that I really love, is that the Maiden meat puppet stuffer is pushed aside, but it's a creation (of love) that becomes the Maiden. So Atlesian technology is involved in some way, but it comes from a place of paternal adoration, not cold calculation of Aura. (Maiden meat puppet machines bad. That's why Cinder has stopped the processes twice as the ironically-heroic Fall Maiden of Choice).
I also like that she's a principled character, and I think by extension she humanises Winter. There's a feedback loop of compassion.
So I can definitely say I think she's a wonderful character, and they really took her in a unique direction. Her character arc was ultimately resolved. There was one choice she got to make independent of everybody else - including Ruby who refused to kill her - which was choosing the next Winter Maiden herself. I think she was also a great character (like Ironwood) to foil against Cinder.
The trouble with resurrection in the show is that Ozma's botched resurrections are at the heart of the conflict, and it's very clear textually that it's not right in some way. Both on the front that Salem could never resolve her grief (and her isolation here plays a big part) and the Brother gods were petty, and ultimately lacking in sympathy or understanding of their human subjects. Salem and Ozma became pawns in their brotherly squabble. They're not particularly nice. (Then the god of Light turned around and pitted Ozma against the love of his life. Nice job there).
Penny was only able to be 'resurrected' because she had not self-actualised/was 'human' yet. By her very nature if she can be brought back to life by human hands from absolute death (not near-death, I'm qualifying this for a reason) then she's not human. To live and to die is human. That's why her arc in V7/V8 is so significant, because she self-actualises independent of other authorities that want to control her (and I do think the Penny/Ruby/Oscar as symbolic children thing is working here pretty strongly - and they all 'grow up' around the same time) and she lives. Equally she dies.
The Aura part is very important, because in RWBY the soul is material. It's a very different approach from the Gnostic framework which divides the material and the spiritual. Penny can fully self-actualise as her entire own person, who can neither be raided for parts or hacked nor can she be restored from her core. It also makes her more vulnerable. Being alive is vulnerable. Penny embraces vulnerability as a character. She saves Winter, once, twice. She asks Fria if she's okay. Her weakest point in V8 is thinking that she could just hand over the Relic to Salem and make it all go away, and she overcomes that by realising (I think) as the Winter Maiden she is more powerful being vulnerable and making difficult decisions.
(Her becoming a Maiden is also quite powerful - that is ascent from girlhood to womanhood, really.
I just want to add the following caveat: I know people read Penny as autistic and/or trans, and I think all of the self-actualising/transcendent elements still work. When I use 'child', it's not because I think her behaviour/character is childlike, but I'm talking about self-actualising, agency, and structure in the story - it's not her actual affectations, and I just want to clarify that so you know where I'm coming from. I don't think anything I've said so far about girlhood into womanhood changes for her character being trans, though I don't think I need to clarify that point. Overall, I think Penny is a wonderful transformative character).
This vulnerability is in real contrast to Ironwood's fall. Penny really makes Ironwood's fall work, particularly with the line that he's always wanted to protect Atlas' technology. It works on a few levels - patriarchal/condescending authority, as well as denying the very nature of Penny. Penny wrestles with vulnerability like he does, and between the two of them, either you end up empowered when you die and leave behind something meaningful - the Maiden legacy - and save your friend from the figure you've foiled for two volumes, or you die alone, in a drowning city, unable to even make a clean shot against a stationary target who, ironically, is more heroic than you.
Penny learns everything she needs and offers the story everything it needs. She's one of those characters who are 'perfect' in the sense that she's deeply principled and working within her circumstances. Roman, Pyrrha, Vernal, Clover, and Penny all share these characteristics. I don't think RWBY is a cruel show killing main characters. All of the characters who've died so far are not main characters, but they are beloved, especially by the cast itself. Roman was loved by Neo, Pyrrha by her team and Ruby, Vernal by Raven and the bandits (yes, I do think this), Clover by Qrow and his team, Penny by Winter and Ruby. They're not trying to be cruel by pulling your favourite away from you, but the ongoing thread is that the loss of these people means something because they are loved. They made the world different and better with their presence in some way. It does broadly answer Ozma's loss. Ultimately all of the deaths in the show do: how to handle grief. Sometimes in transformative magical ways.
Tumblr media
I understand that people want Penny to come back, but fundamentally it's an incorrect reading of the themes of the show to the point that I do need to just put my opinion here and be a bit mean: it's the central wound and conflict of the show, if Penny comes back they refute their major thesis with Salem and Ozma. I've seen some suggestions the Maiden meat puppet machine might be used because Penny survives inside Winter. I am going to give you my honest opinion: meat puppet machine VERY bad (and to some degree I think Aura evades scientific curiosity) and Penny survives inside Winter... because Winter loved her. They loved each other. It's not literal.
When you love someone they're never really gone.
Tumblr media
(Sorry... had to).
They're always a part of you and you transform each other. Winter is able to break free from Ironwood because of Penny, literally! Penny is the feminine authority here breaking her out from the patriarch who's very angry Winter won't do what he's telling her to do and behave! In the yellow brick road (the metaphorical womb) Penny dies, and then guides Winter through. It's a restorative cycle, and part of what makes Penny a transcendent figure (and now her own Blue Fairy).
They affect and empower each other in really meaningful ways, and it makes living meaningful. For Winter's arc in particular, she has lost her little sister (so she thinks) whom she was deeply tied to, already after Penny's loss. She's had a major identity shift, and I think the memory of Penny will help her.
To understand why Penny won't return, it's important to understand the conflict with Salem and Ozma, and the brother gods. The people affected by Penny's loss won't be alone like Salem was. Not even her dad is. Their last goodbye was a real last goodbye, but Maria's with him. (Notice the older characters not being isolated the way Fria was).
So in summary: I adored the return of Penny and how she embodied a major theme of the show (compassion, amidst everything), and they did something really wonderful with her and made her unique. I think what they're trying to do with Aura (the material transcendence of the soul) was well-realised, and her character arc worked so well in contrast to other characters. Her spiritual triumph in contrast to Ironwood's fall was very good, and I'm so glad they occurred alongside one another. Also, the themes of life/death in the series realised through her are very reassuring/powerful. I think it's helped clarify which characters will die, and which won't. RWBY isn't a cynical story.
The inherent wound of the show is the absurdity - the technical, fairytale absurdity - of Ozma's death. It just happens. There's no reason, there's no sacrifice, he just dies when they were supposed to be happily together. It's not the end of the story, though. Salem doesn't let it be the end, because otherwise you don't have a story. So we're going the long way around to fixing that. If I had to tell you what I think the solution to their situation will be, it will be something transformative and magical only possible in a fairytale, and it will be fixed.
Penny's life and death meant something, and she made an impression on everybody around her. I'm going to level with you: I cried writing this.

Renora is one of the more tamer and community friendly ships that majority likes. There isn't really any major shipping problems with Nora and Ren because most people agree that with their opposite behavior and long history together creates good chemistry, something I agree with. Though, I wonder why you feel like they break the pattern? I'm not an expert or anything on Oz/Salem coding, but wouldn't Nora be Salem coded and Ren be Oz coded? Especially due to their backstory.
Oh no I'm still split on it... it came up when I was talking to my Best Mate about R/WBY, we were identifying ship patterns, and it was an idea I sort of threw out there. I mean we have the following issues:
Colour patterns (Nora is getting her own blue now, but before that the pink/green were the sole lotus colours, so she had none of her own identity in colour. The pink/blue colour matching is from a different colour matching scale to yellow/purple, red/green, and orange/blue, but this might just be for variety. I lean towards simplicity).
Allusions - nowhere do Mulan or Thor figure into each other. It's a similar issue to Jaune/Pyrrha and Blake/Sun. They're anime-trope romances and rely on that for their intertextuality, which is not an indictment, but it's worth pointing out the other two didn't work out at all and don't fit into R/WBY's storytelling style all that well
Reverse Salem/Ozma - they do fit into this patterning which is why I'm not totally off it. If anything exploring Nora's overreliance on Ren is very very thematically in line with redeeming Salem/Ozma
Anima/animus - they are anima/animus but again represent overreliance (this is why it's very good the ship hasn't gone... well, it's canon, but they're not together). The distinction here with the anima/animus is that all of the other pairings are anima/animus harmoniously coming together, whereas Ren and Nora were tied to each other from the start.
I was like to Best Mate 'wouldn't it be funny if they didn't even do endgame RN because it's an anime-trope ship and the other anime-trope ships crashed and burnt' and then I was like hang on a second lol.
On the note of colour, Salem/Ozma and anima/animus, I think that Nora having independence away from Ren is very necessary and a good sign. If they hadn't done that I would've assumed there was something seriously up. But it confirms the patterns otherwise that way.
It's really the allusions that make me the most curious, especially because Thor's love interests are varied (and I don't know how much Norse knowledge they have, but I made a post before about how Nora's nurturing fits into Thor's characterisation as a fertility god/fecundity figure/the rains that nourish). Also I think in Norse myth the sun is feminine, and the moon is masculine, which definitely fits RN, so that's a good sign.
It's really only the allusions that sort of concerns me, but again, they may be the anime-trope romance recontextualised inside the fairytale that works. Nora's character arc right now is arguably a good omen, I just remain a little sus that's all.
I don't think ship popularity contributes as much to whether the pairing is endgame. It's just like, the one thing most people agree on, and I think it would be extremely funny if it weren't endgame, but I like chaos. I'm not invested either way, but I like the direction of their character arcs as-is in canon now.
Sorry if I made anybody upset... I'm just having fun identifying the show's patterns.

Hey, something Knightfall related this time! In the JNPR Manga, the Knightfall section is actually titled “The Prince and Me”. Not really groundbreaking but, Prince Charming and Cinderella. Ooh, and the canon part of this. It’s stated that everything in all of the mangas are canon until the show directly contradicts something, meaning that Knightfall comic is canon unless proven directly otherwise!!
Oh no you're COMPLETELY right, I zeroed in on that detail the other day and I'm glad you did too, they really just went overt with that?
Jaune as Prince Charming is one of the best and funniest outcomes of the show, it caters directly to me
Tumblr media

Yeah I do recall it was said that this was a section of the manga meant to parody shoujo tropes but all that tells me is that they specifically want to parody shoujo tropes with Knightfall for some Godforsaken reason, which couldn't possibly be because Jaune is really a fairytale Prince Charming or anything to CINDER'S story
And there's apparently White/rose baiting in the manga, so that also discounts it. Still don't get why they'd bait Knightfall, Knightfall is on WHOSE radar precisely? WR is obviously a ship with a vocal fanbase, and to be quite frank with you, exactly WHO is threatening Miles Luna to put Knightfall in side content because it's NOT ME!!!!!!
'Oh no, I guess our collaborative hand is going to slip and we HAVE to put Knightfall in as a tease, someone HELP US'
'No one asked for that!!!'
'Cinder thinks Jaune is PRETTY and he's SPARKLING with BEAUTY, our fanbase is SO DEMANDING'
Yeah

Tried cooking curry for the first time. Almost caused a fire :( On the bright side, a friend of mine was over and saved my damsel in distress ass. My cooking ego has been cracked and out pours my hopes and dreams, a burnt omelette in the end. Sorry for being inactive, sometimes it seems I can’t even get out of bed for anything. i even forgot to attend an internship fair at my college…though it was optional so no biggie. How are ya??
Oh no you poor thing!!! Hooray for friend saving the day. (o: I cook a little bit, so if you need some pointers I'd be happy to offer some. How... did you almost cause a fire with curry, if you don't mind me asking? I remember I burnt some veggie burgers once, that was my worse offense. Oh, and another time I was using a baking tray lined with paper, and it touched the element of the oven and caught on fire. Thankfully I noticed. That was also a vegan schnitzel, funnily enough. I haven't burnt any meat yet.
Were you browning the meat or something for a curry? When I make curry I usually use leftover meat. I do a pot roast in my Le Creuset pot (I used my Best Mate's mother's when I lived at her place, but it was the one thing I invested in when I moved out; you can get them secondhand!) and then I save the stock from that as well as the leftovers, so that's the base for the curry. Although it depends what sort of curry you're making as well, because it can mean a lot of different things. I like Persian curries.
Your culinary career is not at all over yet, trust me. Also if you're in dorms (I don't understand American dorms... they sound dreadful) I imagine it's really hard to cook in. Don't be disheartened, cooking is like any other skill and can be learnt. I'm not the best but I know a lot of basics now.
And whoops about that internship fair! Oh well, you figure those things out in your first year. I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty getting out of bed, I know how that feels. It's really hard. You should be kind to yourself. <3 I usually try to do at least one thing I can do a day when I'm stuck like that, even really small stuff.
I'm ok thanks. Working on the next chapter. Having similar difficulties with trying to do stuff. Such is life, etc.
Don't apologise for being inactive btw, as long as you're doing alright that's what matters! I've made a few posts you might like to look at though. (o: Take care! <3

Cinder’s 5’7 without her heels. With heels, she’s 5’11. I remember reading that somewhere, not sure if that’s confirmed but everyone seemed fine with that height measurement.
There you go, cheers.
I don't understand how that height works and how she looks like that beside Ruby. That's so weird.
I'm going to elect to selectively ignore it.
