Marisol Castille is supposedly a little ‘rich bitch’ but nobody really knows what she suffers at her father’s hands until she runs away, collapsing when she reaches New Orleans. She wakes to the women she met before, at home in Miami, Valerie and Solina.  She had been brought home by them, nursed back to something close to health but Solina looks at her like she knows what happened and Valerie is quietly tender in a way they weren’t before. Before she had been simply a snack, now she’s a wife... but is she strong enough to choose them and leave her old life behind once and for all?

Pottery share the irreverent 'Lady Solinas', announce debut EP coming out on Partisan Records

Montreal quintet Pottery began making a name for themselves last year with remarkable live performances, including support slots for the likes of Parquet Courts. These, along with excellent debut single 'Hank Williams', caught the attention of Partisan Records who will release their debut EP No. 1 on May 10th. The band have also shared a new song from the 7-track collection, 'Lady Solinas'; singer Austin Boylan explaining:

“‘Lady Solinas’ is a satirical take on the story of Andy Warhol’s shooter, Valerie Solanas (Warhol’s writer of the screenplay “UP YOUR ASS”, also the writer of “SCUM Manifesto”). The story is used to consider the power of passion in artists and its effect on their mental condition. Although the lyrics hold a serious message, the approach to convey it is ultimately comedic.”

The comic atmosphere is definitely palpable amidst Pottery's jaunty country-tinged rocker, with twanging guitars bringing a cartoony twist to the track. 'Lady Solinas' has muscle and a sting to it as well though, with Pottery guiding the song through a brazen, mosh-bating refrain and a scrappy break down. 'Lady Solinas' may only be 3 minutes, but Pottery use that time to great effect, showing several gears they can move through with churning excitement, suggesting there's plenty more to come on No. 1 and beyond.

Pottery's No. 1 EP is out on May 10th. They'll be in the UK in May for some dates, before returning for festivals later in the summer. Here's the full list:

Valerie liked to pretend she was fine with what had happened, with being chosen purely because she was pretty and close enough to where Solina and Dracula had crashed, but Solina knows the weight of immortality is a little much. She’d been unimpressed herself, but when Valerie walks away from Lucy’s giggly gossiping with Dracula, she follows, settles beside Valerie and waits. “He chose us just because he wanted wives…” “So he’s a man.” Solina’s voice is husky, her eyes flickering over Valerie before she continues. “Is it really so bad? We’ve at least got each other…. For as long as it takes us to get killed for his stupidity anyway.” “We could run away…” “We could let him get killed, then run.” Solina agrees lightly, then smiles. “I wouldn’t mind immortality with you.”

Ruin My Life - Solina/Valerie Sharpe

A/N: Part 1/5 for this week’s prompts from @soheavyaburden​ ‘s A Year Of Whump.

Later, feeling broken, Solina would wonder what she did to deserve it. Drained of blood before being turned she had come back different, stronger but more delicate. So she watched in silence as Valerie too is drained, turned, ruined. Dracula, of course, dies horribly, Valerie dangerously close to following him when Solina grabs her hand and runs, dragging Valerie away. They are drained now, tired and weakened by Dracula’s death and Solina snarls as she drags a girl into the shadows, both women tearing into her, leaving her drained of blood and dying horribly, the same way they had. They will not turn her, a small concession to how they both feel. Later people would discover a trail of bodies through the city, Solina and Valerie long gone, both women curled into the same coffin, hidden safely away. They are well clear of the city, they can rest and consider what to do next.
