Food and Travel is what I've missed
Yes, I most certainly missed travelling and eating my way around the places we have wanted to visit. Life certainly has been different the last couple of years. We were so luck to have had our 50th birthdays in 2019 when we could travel. We visited Le Manoir and that was an amazing experience. One of my fave chefs Monsieur Raymond Blanc. I thank my parents for gifting the meal to us. I took Hubby to Modena for his 50th. There we visited the Ferrari museums and he also got the chance to drive a Ferrari around the roads of Maranello. A trip to Bologna and a football match was included and we had a blast. The best for me were the markets where the produce was so amazing and so fresh. I took 100's of photos. Even got ingredients to make a small picnic where we ate on the steps outside the University museum. We had a ball. The food was awesome and we, well I vowed I had to go back, if not where we were but actually I would like to go back to Modena to get some truly amazing vinegar.
In the December it was my turn to become the big 5 - 0.. my pressie from hubby was a surprise, as was his too! He took me to the Caribbean for 10 days of sunshine. I didn't know where it was but knew it was going to be hot so knew what to pack. It was a secret until the night before... i did have an inkling of where it might be but didn't want to ruin it for him, but he actually ruined it for me.. He let slip where we were going while saying where he was going to buy a present for his work colleague!.. We were going to the sunshine isle of Antigua. It was glorious but the weather wasn't to start with. I did cuss him for it. Free champers on the flight and when we got there. It is also the island where our fave cricketer lives.. the one and only Sir Viv Richards. It was weird being somewhere hot at Christmas, due to being a winter girl and winter goes with snow not sun! I didn't moan though it was lovely to sit in the sun where at home it was cold and rainy (my son gladly text me). Birthday dinner was the best at the yacht club. Sirloin steak, half lobster and an array of caribbean salads all washed down with a bottle of fizz.
So we got home had Christmas which was very rushed as we didn't have much time to plan it before we went or when we got back. And suddenly we entered 2020 and that is when the world turned upside down with a nasty virus lurking in all nooks and crannies of the world. Eventually no flying or travelling at all. Our holidays cancelled and our trip back to Italy we postponed to July 2021. Now hoping it will come to fruition. My son's girlfriend is Italian and her parents have invited us to visit. Fingers crossed it will happen with a trip around Rome too. We also hope to have a few weekend trips planned to go to the capital. We so miss visiting and being tourists for a couple of days. Maybe we may go further afield!
One thing for sure is I will not stop travelling and eating my way around the places I visit and bring some of the food back and maybe a couple of recipes too.
Watch this space!
