Every once in a while, Ru would kinda go off for a few days to do his own thing. Normally, this was not too big of a deal. He'd go off, come back, it'd all be business as usual.

On one occasion, however, he returned clutching a gallon-sized jar of water with puffy white creatures in it. "BRUUUU!" He yelled, searching around the house for his hubby. "We gotta build an aquarium!!"

Our muses at a loved one’s funeral.

He felt like all of the air had left the room. He could hardly breathe, couldn’t think straight, his mind consumed by the fact that the love of his life was gone. It was all his fault... he hadn’t gotten to her in time, he had not been fast enough...He would never forgive himself.

Thranduil could do nothing but stare straight ahead at the memorial- There was no body to bring home, only memories left of a lifetime together- Eyes trained forward, afraid to blink. He knew that his sons were beside him, that he should comfort them, that they had lost their mother and were in mourning as well, but Thranduil’s grief had left him stranded, and he could not find it within himself to move, let alone speak.

Rumil had completely internalized the initial conversation he'd had with Bruiduin, where Bru had admitted he wasn't physically attracted to him. Ru was a sensitive little guy, not to mention eager to please. It also didn't help that the inky person Ru talked to about his marriage was Orophin, and Orophin's advice about Bruiduin was mostly wrong and always stressed Ru out even more. Oro would regularly point out their age gap, or comment that he hoped Ru wasn't annoying his husband, just tiny, joking things, but Ru took it all to heart. He didn't know better.

So the entire time they were married, Ru never made a move. He didn't want to annoy his husband by being clingy or needy, and opted instead to literally act asexual and aromantic. He cuddled with Bruiduin, sure. But he acted completely uninterested in letting his hands wander, or kissing Bru, or anything. He wouldn't even let Bru see him change clothes. He was miserable from containing his needs - Ru was obsessively in love with Bruiduin, had been ever since he'd seen Bru fight in an exhibition - but he felt powerless to do anything about it.

One day, he was meeting with Orophin and things came to a head. Each time they'd met up, Oro would ask if he'd had sex yet, and each time the answer was the same. But on this occasion, Ru was so upset he just started bawling and blubbering about how Bru didn't want him and wasn't making any moves and how Ru must be the worst husband in the history of husbands even though he just wanted to be a good husband and why had Oro stuck Ru with Bruiduin when Bru obviously didn't want his ugly self, and so on. It was quite uncharacteristic for Ru, to say the least, and Orophin immediately went to get Bruiduin.

He let himself into Ru and Bru's home and stomped through, looking for his close friend. "You're coming with me, right now," he said in a tone that meant business. "I'm putting an end to this one way or another. I've got Ru in my living room bawling his damn eyes out over you. What the hell is going on?" He clasped his hand over Bru's shoulder and steered him toward the door; he was Bru's equal in strength, but he was almost seven foot tall--he was big and strong, versus Bru being short and agile.

The man lifts his head, puffing at the pipe and looking at the elf in front of him. He is dirty with dirt and old blood and smells like the forest, green and red, his hairs longish, as his beard.

On the campfire there is a rawhide pot bubbling away, the smell of wild stew in the air.

The man smiles mildly at the elf.

-Aye. Bit of a wanderer, I be. Would ye share a meal? It is kinda lonesome, eating all by oneself. It be only deer stew with mild mushroom, but it be better than a kick in the teeth.-

He smiles again, and wrinkles appear around his eyes.
