What the Hell?

Judaism does not have a specific doctrine about the afterlife, but it does have a mystical/Orthodox tradition of describing Gehinnom. Gehinnom is not hell, but originally a grave and in later times a sort of Purgatory where one is judged based on one's life's deeds, or rather, where one becomes fully aware of one's own shortcomings and negative actions during one's life.

The Kabbalah explains it as a "waiting room" (commonly translated as an "entry way") for all souls (not just the wicked). The overwhelming majority of rabbinic thought maintains that people are not in Gehinnom forever; the longest that one can be there is said to be 12 months, however, there has been the occasional noted exception. Some consider it a spiritual forge where the soul is purified for its eventual ascent to Olam Habah (heb. עולם הבא; lit. "The world to come", often viewed as analogous to heaven). This is also mentioned in the Kabbalah, where the soul is described as breaking, like the flame of a candle lighting another: the part of the soul that ascends being pure and the "unfinished" piece being reborn.

According to Jewish teachings, hell is not entirely physical; rather, it can be compared to a very intense feeling of shame. People are ashamed of their misdeeds and this constitutes suffering which makes up for the bad deeds. When one has so deviated from the will of God, one is said to be in Gehinnom. This is not meant to refer to some point in the future, but to the very present moment. The gates of teshuva (return) are said to be always open, and so one can align his will with that of God at any moment. Being out of alignment with God's will is itself a punishment according to the Torah.

Many scholars of Jewish mysticism, particularly of the Kabbalah, describe seven "compartments" or "habitations" of hell, just as they describe seven divisions of heaven. These divisions go by many different names, and the most frequently mentioned are as follows:

Sheol (Hebrew: שְׁאוֹל – "underworld", "Hades"; "grave")

Abaddon (Hebrew: אֲבַדּוֹן – "doom", "perdition")

Be'er Shachat (Hebrew: בְּאֵר שַׁחַת, Be'er Shachath – "pit of corruption")

Tit ha-Yaven (Hebrew: טִיט הַיָוֵן – "clinging mud")

Sha'are Mavet (Hebrew: שַׁעֲרֵי מָוֶת, Sha'arei Maveth – "gates of death")

Tzalmavet (Hebrew: צַלמָוֶת, Tsalmaveth – "shadow of death")

Soul magic is a fascinating topic all by itself. It’s powers are ambiguous and vague at best. The most fascinating thing about soul magic however isn’t it’s ability to manipulate the mortal soul, but it’s ability to create fake souls. These false souls interact with the world around them in some interesting ways. But the primary purpose and thing to keep in mind is their ability to hold spells. They can provide that spark of sentience to just about anything, and that spark alone is enough to hold on to a spell. We most commonly see these false souls in three ways, though it’s to be noted that these aren’t the only ways to use this kind of magic. They can be used to create elementals (thralls created with a combination of energy and the spark given to them with soul magic), they can be used to creat undead using a shell of some kind, usually a corpse, or they can be used to grant sentience to objects and artifacts, especially magic ones (The Fist of Yaven is a fantastic example of one such artifact). Holding this kind of magic tends to be rather difficult and cumbersome. As such, very few soul mages use this aspect of soul magic practically, unless they’re very skilled, or have come very prepared. As mentioned before, a phlactory is one way to make this kind of magic more efficeinct. There are also rituals (blood and otherwise) that can assist with this kind of magic as well and make it more effective. But the most practical and common way to make this magic work as the caster wants is by simply enchanting an item with the spells needed. This can be expensive and time consuming, but depending on what exactly your providing sentience to, it can be a devestating way of casting magic. Maybe one of the most devestating ways of casting magic, if done well

Molly, Trixie, and Feenie’s interactions felt so real! Actual friends coming up with dumb in jokes and sayings, and like actual kids!

Xerxes having some lines (albeit from a flashback) was a welcomed surprise! My baby girl-

I had to pause the book to scream into a pillow when Yoomtah said her and Naven were in love, my little Yaven shipping heart couldn’t handle it! Also she said how they fell in love is CLASSIFIED which makes me think she KNOWS about what happened (not gonna say what cause spoilers but if ya know….ya know). Which is interesting since she didn’t in AC

Also- absolutely theorizing Trixie is the reincarnated Songstress. She was able to see Rook (who works for the Songstress) and can see/talk to ghosts like Feenie said the new vessel could do.

I cried so much when Molly got a PROPER breakfast. Like that child DESERVES to eat, and I’m excited to see how she develops now LIVING with Gio (I guess Crusher- but we all know Gio is gonna be in her life constantly)

Lorelai- Lorelai my poor little meow meow. I’ve been theorizing since Say No that she had something to do with the fire that killed Calliope and I WAS RIGHT-….kinda? She THINKS she had something to do with the fire- and hates herself and her epithet for it. There are scenes where I go from loving Lorelai to hating her on a dime, but she’s easily more….complex than Mera and Zora. Mera and Zora are bad people, Mera maybe a bit more victim of circumstances, but they’ve actively made decisions to be bad people (I still love them though-). While Lori didn’t think she was the bad guy, she avoided blame and pushed people away to not hurt them, and lived in a fantasy world that made her the good guy so she can run away from the guilt. I like Lorelai. I don’t forgive her for making Molly cry, I’ll never forgive her for that. I relate to using escapism to cope, I relate to being lonely.

Overall loved Prison of Plastic, and I don’t care how long I have to wait for the next book. I just know that whatever help Jello and the team will need (funding wise), I’ll do my best to help to see more of this awesome series :3

A group of Jews from Teaneck, New Jersey, have managed to raise $40,000 for Israeli children experiencing difficulties amid ongoing fighting between Israel and terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip. The group passed on the funds and donated items to Colel Chabad, Israel's oldest continuously operating charity. The focus of the fundraising was to provide for more home deliveries for elderly Israelis following the shutting of 22 soup kitchens due to rocket fire from Gaza, with more attention being paid to Israelis living in the most hard hit areas in south and central Israel. It also saw the children who are suffering through these troubling times and donated items for them, as well. Colel Chabad has thus far delivered some 25,000 meals to 5,000 people in Israel that lasted through the weekend and holiday of Shavuot. “We called upon the community to help raise money to send toys, educational books, and comfort food to bomb shelters across southern Israel,” said Rivka Szafranski, who runs the Youth Department at Congregation Bnei Yeshurun in Teaneck with her husband Yehoshua. “We decided to team up with Colel Chabad which already has the infrastructure and volunteer system to package and distribute gifts to these children who are suffering during these traumatic times.” Doron Katz, another participant in the initiative from Teaneck, said, “We’ve now raised over $38,000 and growing, and have over 30 other communities involved in donating gift packages for Israeli children in the hardest hit areas.” During the first round of aid, packages for Shavuot were given to young children who attend the Colel Chabad daycare centers in the Israeli cities of Yavne, Ashdod and Sderot, all of which have experienced constant rocket fire from the Gaza Strip. Beyond food, the packages also included books focusing on emotional difficulties during war. “It warms our heart to feel your love and caring,” said Miriam Blau, educational counselor at the Maonot Chaya Childcare Centers in Israel. “It means so much to these children during these turbulent times to know that there are sisters and brothers on the other side of the world that think of them and care for them.” “Thousands of families are living in very tense and scary times, having to drop everything and run to the nearest shelter, sometimes multiple times a day,” said Itzik Marton of Colel Chabad. “The tremendous response from Jewish youth in the United States to this initiative really shows how ‘Kol Yisrael Ereivim Ze Ba’Zeh’ – we are all connected.

SO NEW CHAPTER NEW THEORY ABOUT MYTHOS

THIS TIME: LAYERS OF THE KABBALAH

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD

So the new chapter dropped and while this is not the Yggdrasil theory that had come around previously, it IS very similar in terms of technicalities

So right off the bat, we see that Dante calls the path to the demon realm the Tree Qliphoth while some earlier (non-official tho) translations called it the Tree of Yggdrasil but the point still stands:

Big mythical Tree taht uses magic, has access to multiple realms and is more or less dangerous

But the picture that appears specifically when mentions the tree is this

And is the tree of life from the Kabbalah depicted by Robert Fludd.

In the Jewish Kabbalah, the tree of life is has emanations/attributes called sephiroth (nobody laugh, this is real), and Tree of Life has an opposite called the Tree of Death, and in turn the Sephiroth have opposites - the Qliphoth (impure or evil spiritual forces)

Now there are theories about how each arcane mage has represents a different realm in Yggdrasil, but later in the chapter we see that Dante has documents of THIS

IN HIS ROOM

And that's most likely a more accurate diagram of the Tree of Life or the Tree of Death but you can't tell because they're both depicted as that when they're not together so let's assume it's Tree of Death/Qliphoth

Which makes you think, if they're after arcane mages, why William and Yami specifically.

Now the thing about these trees is that both are counter opposites but the first Sephiroth, Jesod or Yesod, depending on the translation, is representative of foundation and in most diagrams is second from the bottom.

Considering that the Qliphoth is A Tree, William would arguably be the the Yesod of the tree, seeing as how his World Tree Magic would be the foundation for the magic path.

But Why Yami? Well, if we're thinking about this, Dante, using the Qliphoth, could open a tunnel to the Demon world but If we're going by Jewish Kabbalah, then it's likely that place might be based off of Sitra Achra (the term for the realm of evil in the kabbalah as well as the Other Side opposite to holliness/ the side of impurity)

But here's the thing.

Sitra Achra has LAYERS. In Hermetic Kabbalah, it's said that Hell has seven divisions :

The pit of corruption (Mashchit/Be'er Shachat);

Cistern of sounds/clinging mud (Bar Shaon/ Titha-Yaven);

Abaddon (not the demon, yall)/Tzoah Rotachat

Sheol/Tehom

The gates of death (Dumah/Sha'are Mavet)

Limbo/oblivion (Neshiyyah/Tzalmavet)

And the lowest earth, Gehenna (Erestz Tachtit)!

So big question: If Dante's gonna let the demons loose from the underworld, which underworld are they gonna come from.

And while I cannot predict which one it's gonna be (probably Gehenna, Limbo or Abaddon, if we're going by tropes) it's likely that that place will have magic that is similar to Yami's magic.

Seeing as how William is the foundation, the arcane stage who's magic follows will probably have a connection corresponding to each division, since there are more than one. Since its Yami, it's likely he'll be represented as Geburah, Binah or Chokmah but it's a shot in the dark since I'm going off of defining characteristics with Yami's almost unique art of Ki, acceptance of the black bulls or headstrong personality.

So.

Where does that take us? Well, if Dante DOES in fact have a specific division of Sitra Achra, then theoretically if he does manage to snatch Yami, that's not the imminent apocalypse. Because if they use Williams magic as a foundation and Yami's magic to infuse into that foundation, then technically the rescue party would be able to derail his plan via pouring a different magic into the tree.

So technically, if for example, Asta were to accidentally do it first (because he's our self sacrificing idiot), then combined with his antimagic which may or may not actually a magic of nothingness (since it technically works in the same way as antimatter but that's a theory for a later date) then rather than going to, let's say, Gehenna, the tunnel would instead lead to Limbo, a dimension of nothingness.

So while Dante's plan is pretty fucking terrifying, there's no guarantee that our protags won't just go "eye of tiger" and literally open a completely different dimension open.

While this is only a theory, I'd love to see how this plays out in any way.
