Praying for Travel Season to win an Emmy two episodes in. And for Steven, Andrew, and Adam to get a sweet treat for themselves.

A very nice trip to Korea - was the wait Worth it?
Short answer: Yes, yes it was. Travel season is amazing, and I will not shut up about how good it is. If you like travel shows then this one is for you.
I've watched it yesterday, twice because my friends also wanted to watch it and they liked worth it before. The verdict is that it's an amazing show and it's very cozy and nostalgic with the way it's presented.
I've never been to Korea before and all the popculture did not make me wanna visit there. I also haven't seen worth it before besides the time the last season aired only because I wanted to see what the fuss is about, but my conclusion is that I had no strong feelings about it. I'm as neutral as it comes with only being familiar with what Watcher produced since 2022.
I also love Steven Lim and what he did on Watcher so far - his shows are unique in showing love for food and the people he features in the videos. I watched the 24 hours in Korea and loved it, despite again not knowing much about it. I loved how it showed many sides to visiting a city despite being sponsored by the tourist office, it still felt as genuine as a sponsored video can be. But still there was something missing there.
I think Travel Season has the missing element that those other videos had. It's leagues above everything Watcher produced so far and shows the television- no cinematic caliber of what they can do. It's the realized potential of everything they did, it doesn't promise what's not there it delivers on everything you ever wanted a travel show to be.
Is it a successor to their previous show? I don't know and it's not for me to judge. They adress it in episode one about trying different prices of Fried Chicken, something seen as an everyday food that's very popular in Korea. They try to do the format familiar to the audience and then elevate it in ways I didn't think were possible. You don't get an answer if the price is worth something but you get the different experiences. It's like having a local friend showing you around the city they know and want to show you the variety of things about it.
The love for food and for friends made along the way is obvious. You feel like you're there visiting with them, the cinematography and the way they describe the food is that good. It's also elevated by the photos taken with a physical camera which gives the nostalgic feel to viewing pictures from holidays that your friends were on but you wish you could see what they talk about when they talk about it.
With the talented cinematography of capturing the moments that are shared with us you can feel like you are there with them.
If you like travel shows I think you will love this. I certainly did because it appealed to me and I would love to visit the country someday.
I hope that Watcher will make many shows in the future and this is only the start, (Steven said on his instastories that he'd like to make many more seasons of this and I agree I want to watch them go on their adventures forever), but if this is the only season produced of it then what a way to go. Truly the best Watcher show I watched.

Truly and honestly I didn't think I could be surprised by what Watcher can produce. My first video I ever watched of them was first episode of Ghost files and that felt like a lot of work put into it, the quality production was off the roof and when I watched it on youtube I was like "how is this a youtube video this should be an independent movie".
Now two years later watching the first episodes of Travel Season the feeling is similar. I am blown away by every detail every camera angle, every choice of wide shot of beautiful city that I've never been to, but it feels like I'm there walking with them and experiencing the food even though I'm only looking at it. You can feel love and dedication to the craft that Steven and Andrew have, and that they are genuinely having fun while doing this. This isn't even a food show, not really this is a high quality travel documentary and the moments saved in pictures only add to it. The 90's style sitcom intro, the photos taken by a real camera. The respect to the culture they have not only by bringing Brittney on their travels but also having people who live there who can explain the culture to us. Truly every detail is well thought out and that's what I love about Watcher. They really bring it their all to every show they make and because of the quality we can be awed by their skills of not only comedy, but also the cinematography and how natural it all feels. "Curiosity meets comedy" really rings true in this show. Travel season encapsulates everything I love about Watcher and I hope they will last forever and make a 100 seasons of this and other stuff they want to make.
I don't think they have it in them to make a better show than this but that's the same I thought when I first watched Ghost files. I hope to have this feeling of joy for every show they produce and I will be lucky enough to see.
Unironically, this really is the quality content I've come to expect from Watcher entertainment, but my expectations are exceeded. I hope to be awed everytime for years to come.

"Travel season is a show where every season we travel" is truly the funniest and most consise way to describe a food show. I love Steven Lim he's truly the funniest watcher cofounder. Can't wait for it to air soon it's like less than 2 days <3

Yeah that's not what happens, in that video the person is saying "Other people brought to my attention that they were apparently planning on this based on the pinned comment changing" and "I can't say what's fact or a rumor but some people are saying they did this". He also admits that the wording in the initial video was unclear to him. I'd imagine then that editing a comment was to clarify what was poorly worded because probably many people misunderstood but people would rather think the worst and imagine it's a damage control after trying to delete your library off youtube. The comments are just one person saying it was true that's still not a reliable source. I'd also think that if they were deleting then there'd be at least screenshots of them doing so. He's mentioning season premieres because that's what they planned to do at first for new series.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I know that reading on this webbed site is piss poor but I don't get why people are so hung up on the wording that "They planned to do this". They even said in the update video that they are not, yet people still are hung up on the apparently half an hour where someone saw your mother's uncle's friend see something and say it's true despite it not being true. Many sentiments towards watcher were awful that day and some people still continue to be do you really think people wouldn't just make up shit to put them in even worse light than they were?
Like sometimes official statements by people working at the company are more reliable than some yter who can't even show his face or provide screenshots of the lies he's spreading.
Do you have a source confirming the variety article was incorrect about watcher’s plan to remove their videos from youtube, rather than that being them changing their minds very quickly? All the official watcher statements I saw still point to a changing of minds imo but maybe there’s something I missed
Tumblr media
First of all, the wording before the edit is adamant that they will be removing the videos and I can understand why anyone first reading this would lose their shit. But then
Tumblr media
Meredith's reply and what made me feel like something was screwy is Steven's message not long after when he jumped in the chat to get some clarity to the brunt of the backlash.
Tumblr media
Not only was he baffled that anyone thought they were doing this in the first place but subsequent answers from fans which informed him what the variety article said seemed to have him racing off to put out even more fires.
Not long after that, the article underwent a quick edit.
Tumblr media
The wording is so messy. It both implies that Watcher gave some secret insider gossip but only Ryan Bergara--their original source-- refuted that aspect. Why would the source refute the source? It's so badly worded and people took this and ran with it but the wording is very much like the author misunderstood and used the second bit to cover their ass. There is no mention in the article that they changed their minds either; just a very sloppily-written addition.
Then Meredith who was deep in the trenches trying to give as much info as possible while refuting misinfo was posting below:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When do we imagine they changed their minds last minute? If it was a response to the backlash, then Steven and Meredith's behaviour doesn't make sense considering it was 8am PT, only minutes to less than an hour after the announcement dropped. If it was between the time Variety got their original statement to the launch date, clearly someone got their wires crossed because this section appears to have broadsided the team inasmuch as the accusations that them changing their minds in the first place is a character flaw.

ryan making a joke about not liking shane’s hair and then spending the rest of the ad break anxiously making sure shane knows he was just joking and that he actually likes it, thus making the situation worse, is SO incredibly on brand! :)

Truly who else does it like him. Making a youtube series until he's tired of it and while it sold for a while one day he's like "I don't want to do it anymore it doesn't bring me joy, also mental health products are a scam don't buy them.". All the inside jokes from watching his channel for the last three years, making a nod that most of the buy/try videos end up with useless things, things that became memeable in his videos that he joked about but actually are useless.
And the plot twist and ending of the video of revealing the charity to be pcrf, making it front and center and not a quick nod at the beginning of the video or instagram story that dissapears in some days. Immortalizing it for his audience.
Damn I love Drew Gooden he's the youtuber of all time to me.

Travel Season starts airing this friday May 31st on WatcherTV. You can still get a 30% discount on the streamer if you register through the webbed site before friday (it ends May 30th) After it premieres the discount probably won't be there. They have an app on most stores.
Big watcher won't tell you but they premiere with two episodes of Travel Season on friday.

TG fans: omg watcher needs to stop hiring their friends and fire their poc staff and just move to Ohio if they can’t afford the rent in Cali.
TG: *hires their friends*
TG Fans: Yess Kings. That’s how you do it. 😍
Yes nothing to add here tbh.
Like I expected the "9 new people" to get at least a "why are you doing this and asking us for money" but this being praised as a good business decision because they are (from what I understand) not full time just as a contract worker is great kings, yes keep up the content.
Truly you can do the same thing but get all the praise when you are a white man in position of power.

I just felt very upset at how it seemed like no one who’s friends/aquatinted with watcher really backed them up (which, I guess they didn’t want the drama to travel over to them) when all this shit went down but try guys got so much praise that I wanted to rant but I didn’t think about how it would effect you! I’m sorry! 😞
No no need to apologize I'm glad you agree that this is indeed kinda fucked up that watcher got dragged by the mud and people acted like they did a crime and try guys are praised for it by everyone in the industry and even official youtube account on insta congratulating them. This is white privilege at play, and them sucking up to bigger players in the game (they are still very friendly with youtube and praise and praise dropout ceo) yet being deadly silent on watcher going first and doing the same thing as them but still poking fun at their expense. I think that's pretty bad and shows us who are the greedy ones.
It's especially interesting bc as you said watcher feels genuine and passionate about their videos. They want perfectionism and that costs money but you can see where it goes (ghost files is really good and it feels like I'm watching an indie movie. Like the production value is blowing me away and what made me stay after watching the first ep I didn't know about them before). From what I've seen of try guys? Like okay yeah some cooking tv shows, maybe the production goes on like food ingredients and having celebrity guests as judges but It overall it's pretty much youtube videos content. To me it doesn't feel like the argument of "high production value is justified" something that was seen as bad with watcher is now a praise for them. I simply don't get it except I do, it's the racism and seeing people of color as having malicious intentions for daring to say "hey please give us money so we can continue doing what we do". The message is the same but the medium is different.
That said I hope watcher succeeds and blows us away with their new shows. Sometimes quality over quantity matters and I'm happy to support them wherever they go from here and whatever they decide to do.
