Something heavy enters the archer’s voice and his gaze, if even possible, narrows more at the white-haired idiot before him. He wanted to believe in the other - and he did, to an extent. There was something about Gintoki that emanated a strong energy, but Hanzo was not entirely sure as to what about him it was. The older man would remain bleakly hopeful in the other, if not subtly wary.

“Whether or not you miss your show is unimportant to me. Focus on the task as hand, or go back to your employer and tell him you cannot pull through.” Hanzo raises a sharp brow at the younger. “I know you need the money, but if fiction is more interesting than reality to you, perhaps you should limit the types of jobs and contracts you are willing to take on.”

He sighs. It was not like him to get so preachy toward Gintoki. The only gain he got out of this arrangement was money.

      “ really? i’m my own employer. i knew what i was doing when i decided to make my own business. hanzo-kun, don’t forget -- i’m a yorozuya, a jack-of-all-trades. i do ODD JOBS! that’s my thing. i’ll do anything from saving earth to walking your dog. ” his voice lowers slightly and he brings his hand to the side of his mouth. “ but just between you and me, saving the earth is reserved for only when edo is under direct attack. anywhere else? i’m sure someone else can handle it. ” his hand lowers back into his kimono.

      “ i DO need the money so that’s why i’m here! i’m here to help you out so you can start by helping me out by briefing me again, okay? no need to lecture me! you’re not my mom. i’m a mostly functional adult in my mid to late twenties and you better not forget it. ” the fact that gintoki can say all of this with such an nonchalant tone and signature dumb look on his face is probably off putting, but he is 100% serious at least.
