Why does every adaptation of Supergirl insist on turning her into a female Superman?

Superman and Supergirl have very different, almost opposite dynamics(which also reflect differing immigrant experiences, but I digress)

Superman was raised on earth by humans. He has no memory of Krypton, and in most continuities didnt even know it existed until he was much older. Theres a very real since that his 'homelands' culture is more foreign to him than his adopted one. While he repects his Kryptonian heritage, at the end of the day, Earth is his home, and humans are his people. You see this quite clearly in the fact that he generally prefers to call himself by his human name(clark) rather than his kryptonian one.

Kara on the other hand was raised on Krypton. She didnt arrive on earth till she was much older(teens or even twenties). She IS Kryptonian through and through. Earth is just where she happens to live because she cant go back. She doesnt understand human culture or even at times like humans very much. She is forever an outsider with only her cousin to provide some link to her past and culture.

But for some reason every film/television adaptation of Supergirl(except smallville) writes her with the first dynamic. And its like, why? We already have Superman for that.

yup, that's Mags alright. I can't express how bad of an idea that would be for Conner - putting politics aside, all that would do in practicality is move him from Jon's shadow into Kara's.

The best thing that could happen for the character is to move him back to Hawaii, give him his own supporting cast again, and emphasize the things that make him unique as a character (and downplay or retcon the Lex stuff).

Well, Bob and Larry are clearly sapient beings in-universe but does sapience == a soul? That's not a question we can actually answer given humanity's unique status in Creation as being made in God's image and likeness. We just assume because we're the only sapient species on Earth that it's because we're made in God's image and likeness and have souls, and that the two are inextricably connected.

But anyway it was a rule on VeggieTales that the vegetables could not be depicted as having redemptive relationships with God, nor could Jesus be shown as a vegetable.

It's not as if the news sources Congress would want teenagers to use are any more reliable anyway...

The more I hear "The US government is banning TikTok because 30% of teenagers in the US are getting your news from the tiktok algorithm, this ban is leaving impressionable teenagers without any news sources they can trust", the more I think "good".

I can think of John Byrne (who has interesting and kinda gross opinions on pedophilia) revealing that Reed and Sue met when Sue was a child, and over on the DC side you've also got Deathstroke/Terra (which is supposed to be creepy) and Donna/Terry (which is Marv Wolfman's blatant crush on Donna made manifest).

There is exactly one instance where outfit censorship worked out in the game's favor, and it wasn't even for the game that got censored.

Mythra from Xenoblade 2 looks like this:

CERO (the Japanese ratings board) forced her to be censored for her appearance in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate*, and she looked like this there:

Xenoblade fans loved the censored outfit with the tights so much that it actually got added to Xenoblade 2 as an alternate costume. Many say, and I'd agree with them, that it's a better design - the black of the tights breaks up the light colors of the rest of her design.

Stellar Blade Censorship

Once again, something risque gets censored and people rush in to say "omg who cares" or "stop being horny".

I'm not big on the game. But the devs had a vision and it was censored. Sony is notorious for stupid censorship of games produced outside of the EU/America and this is another case of it.

Remember what they did with DMC5? Among other games.

We are at a point where corporations are trying to pressure out anything NSFW, like Gumroad evicting anything too risque at the behest of Mastercard and Stripe.

And this is the exact same sentiment. I do not care if it's only adding a bit of fabric to her outfits or the gore is toned down. It is still censorship and against the devs' artistic vision.

The fact that people are willing to let this slide because a personal bias or prudishness is absolutely shameful. If you don't like the art, that doesn't mean you should approve of the art getting censored for no damn reason.

It seems so easy to make people defend censorship. All you have to do it cover a bit of skin and they'll shrug, yet they'll be surprised when their NSFW artist friend gets nuked off of a site.

Stop defending censorship of art for the sake of corporate approval/sensibilities.
