Short question about sitters.... and patients who get placed with them. You said if they keep trying to get out of bed.... what if someone hada surgery and kept trying to get up, would they get a sitter then? And possibly some restraints? I mean.... unlikely I know but I'm sure there has been at least one chap that's like I'm fine let me go. Although I have heard its good to walk after surgery's get moving or something. Could yoy please explain?
When patients arrive at a floor and every 24 hours after, they are evaluated for fall risk. Patients who score in the high fall risk category are not allowed to get up without someone present to make sure they don't fall. They will usually be placed on a bed alarm, which makes a horrible sound if they get close to getting up.
Unfortunately, a lot of people are either stubborn or confused. Patients who repeatedly get up after being told not to usually get a "video sitter" which is basically a camera on wheels that transmits to a central monitoring place where someone watches multiple feeds at once and can alert the nurse if a patient is trying to get up without help.
It's only after they fail a video sitter that an in-person sitter gets called in. The sitter then solves the problem because now someone is there 24/7 to prevent a fall.
With surgery we 100% want a patient to get up and walk around if at all possible as soon as possible. We just want them to do it with someone walking with them so they don't fall because they're dizzy or because they're in pain.

Everybody knowing whumpee is sick and them refusing to admit it is great, but what about a sick whumpee whose condition is only noticed when it gets severe?
The rest of the team are just going about their lives, unaware that whumpee is feeling worse and worse by the second, and it's not until whumpee is tasked with helping out and collapses in the process that the full extent of their sickness is revealed- and, really, the fact that they're even sick at all.
Suddenly, though, it's glaringly obvious that something is wrong. But they've been ignored for too long.
Things are really bad now, and when the team can't wake whumpee up, the guilt of not noticing before eats them alive.

There’s something very nice about remembering fics you read years ago. Maybe you remember the plot perfectly, maybe the rest of the fic is only a blur aside from a handful of vivid scenes, but you remember the way it made you feel. And sometimes you dredge up the memory - the premise or a favourite scene or a few lines that stayed with you -  and your heart aches a little bit, the way it does when you think about books you enjoyed as a child.
To all the fanfiction writers out there: your work is beautiful and meaningful and it leaves an impact. I promise.
