No this series can’t be over. This series gives me life and makes my day.I love this series so much. You did such a good job and I love you🫶🫶
Thank you thank you thank you!
I can’t tell you how much it means to hear that people enjoy reading my work. It’s such a personal, cathartic process for me and I share it with the hope it’s meaningful to someone else too. Five months of daily writing has been so GOOD for my creative slump.
Much 🫶 to you and everyone else that has enjoyed this series! I’m posting it to AO3 as I finish editing (with extra scenes!).

Day Thirty - Confusion @sapphicmicrofics
April Daily Series - 1043 words *The End*
<<<Previous Part OR Start Here
When they reached the base of the tree, Dorcas finally sorted out her thoughts. She needed to prepare herself for the “conversation” that Marlene threatened her with. Threatened may be overstating it a little, but Marlene hadn’t given her time to argue against it.
Knowing her ex as well as she did, Dorcas anticipated a fierce defence of their past relationship and the possibility of a future one. Marlene wasn’t as skilled at debates as Dorcas, but she was passionate in her arguments. A vast vocabulary and quick wit were often her only defence against Marlene’s stubborn sincerity.
How can I defend a position that I don’t hold against her impassioned pleas? I want her back too, but there are so many barriers. I can’t see how to make it work.
“Do you ever watch the tree go up?” Marlene asked, meeting her gaze. Surprise momentarily skated over her face when she found Dorcas staring at her already.
“Sometimes.”
Dorcas didn’t look away, partially because she’d always appreciated the open communication of direct eye contact and partially to prove that she wasn’t ashamed to be caught. Unabashed appraisal was a valuable weapon that she wielded often. Most people found it disconcerting and it weakened their position from the start.
Marlene was not most people. She grinned with all of her teeth, a wide and confident predator’s smile. It was sickening how Dorcas’s stomach fluttered at the sight.
Ridiculous! Absurd. Dangerous?
“You said we needed to have a conversation?” Dorcas gestured between them for her to “go on.”
Marlene swivelled in front of her and reached for her neck. “Need to see this for a minute.”
“It’s yours, so…” Dorcas trailed off as Marlene lifted the ring from her chest and kissed the engraved heart “for luck” as she always did before hockey games.
“You should know that I have very few regrets in my life,” Marlene said, toying with the ring. “I’ve been in fights that earned me stitches and scars, drunken revelry that ended in minor legal mishaps, and more than a few shite relationships. It’s all part of my past and made me who I am today.”
Dorcas frowned in confusion as she processed the information. Legal mishaps? What legal mishaps?
“I wouldn’t be me, so why regret what’s over and done?” Marlene continued, “But losing this? Losing you? I will regret that monumental fuck-up until the day that I die.”
“Oh.” It was all that Dorcas could force out amid the rush of emotions.
Marlene released the ring, then reached around to unclasp the necklace it hung from. “I think it’s well past time for me to make it up to you.”
Dorcas wanted to stop her, to cling to the necklace and refuse to give it back. The few minutes with its comforting weight against her chest after all this time grounded her in a way she hadn’t been in months…about a year, actually. Since Marlene left.
“You were right and I was an idiot. Which is not exactly a shocking development, I’ll give you that.” Marlene chuckled to herself as she slid the ring off of the chain. “I’ve let doubt and insecurity cloud my better judgement for too long.”
“And pride,” Dorcas added, her voice low and thick with emotion. “Did you change your mind then? You want it back?”
Marlene’s smile shifted subtly as her eyes searched Dorcas’s face. “Only borrowing it, if you don’t mind?”
“Why would I mi—” Dorcas cut herself off with a gasp as Marlene dropped onto one knee.
No. This can’t be happening. This little twit!
“Dorcas, if I’d known back then what I do now, I would have proposed to you the day I bought your ring instead of carrying it in my pocket and waiting for the perfect moment. Now, when I need it, the fool thing is safely tucked away some 500 kilometres away. So, this will have to do.”
Dorcas’s legs trembled violently, just barely keeping her upright. She couldn’t have formed words if she tried. Her mind was completely blank, except for the one word that played on repeat.
Marly Marly Marly
“You are still the most important person in my life, Cas, even after everything fell apart. I would do anything to see you happy again. You deserve to spend the rest of your life fucking beaming from pure joy, and I want to be there when you do. Believe me when I say that I love you more than pineapple on pizza, my Docs, and yes, even hockey. You are everything to me,” Marlene said, gazing up at her with tears in her eyes.
Oh no, don’t you dare cry! I cannot cry in front of all of these people!
“All that to say, yes, I’m an idiot.”
Dorcas burst out laughing and covered her face with her hands. “Yes, you are.”
The small crowd gathered around them tittered with amusement. She wished they’d mind their own and was tempted to tell them so, but couldn’t tear her gaze from Marlene’s earnest smile.
“An idiot who learns from her mistakes,” Marlene added pointedly. “If I stepped onto that train tomorrow without proposing…if I walked away from you a second time…I couldn’t live with myself.”
“Are you actually going to propose, or is this a bid for the title of the longest romantic edging in history?” Dorcas asked, rolling her eyes.
Marlene snorted a laugh, then clasped Dorcas’s left hand and slid the claddagh onto her finger with the crown facing out. “Calm your tits! I’m almost there.”
Before she could respond, Marlene lifted Dorcas’s left hand to her lips and kissed the ring again. Her own hands were shaking a bit as she lifted to her feet, then Marlene cupped her face gently.
“Dorcas Iris Meadowes, will you marry me?”
Dorcas kissed her hard, unable to contain her nervous energy any longer. Shouts and applause exploded around them. She was immediately caught up in the kiss, matching Marlene’s fervour with her own.
Marlene pulled back suddenly and choked on a laugh. “Is that a ‘yes?’”
“Yes, you idiot! Now kiss me!” Dorcas demanded, grabbing the back of her neck and recapturing her lips.
Consequences be damned. This is worth it.

Day Twenty-Nine - Victorious @sapphicmicrofics
April Daily Series - 858 words
<<<Previous Part OR Start Here
“Who are we pigifying?”
Dorcas couldn’t help smirking at James’s truly bewildered expression. “Don’t worry about it, Potter.”
“Right, you lot are terrifying,” he said, sliding into the seat next to Regulus.
Without hesitation, he lifted his boyfriend into his lap as though it was entirely normal for the two of them. Perhaps it was and Dorcas just hadn’t seen it yet. Regulus didn’t seem to mind, if anything he curled into James’s shoulder. It was a surreal moment, and one that hit Dorcas with a pang of envy. She and Marlene were like that once. Marlene pulled Dorcas into her lap regularly, even though she was significantly taller.
“I have to ask,” she said, nodding at them. “How did this start, exactly?”
James smiled fondly and pressed a kiss to the top of Regulus’s head that was somehow sweet and victorious. “He was pissed and I was warm.”
Regulus shrugged in vague agreement. “True, but I was drunk because of him. After one heated moment, this git was jealous when I talked to another bloke.”
“Ah, yes. That is the key to your heart, isn’t it, Reg?” Dorcas teased. “You always were a sucker for the possessive type.”
“Protective,” James corrected.
Regulus silently placed a finger to his lips to shush her, then patted his boyfriend’s cheek affectionately. “That’s right.”
“Cas? Where did you wander off to?” Marlene called, her voice tense. “She didn’t leave, did she?”
“In the kitchen, Marls!” James replied.
Marlene appeared a moment later and sighed with relief when she spotted Dorcas. “I thought I’d sent you running.”
“No. That’s your move, McKinnon,” Dorcas snarked. It was petty, but necessary to maintain some level of control.
“Not anymore.” Marlene crossed the room in three steps and reached for Dorcas’s hands. “Come on. We’re going for a walk.”
“What? Why?”
“Can you just trust me? You don’t want to have this conversation here.” Marlene glanced at Regulus and tapped her nose.
He sat bolt upright in James’s lap, bashing his head into his boyfriend’s chin. “Ow! Oh that hurt! Go on, Dorcas. Fuck, am I bleeding?!”
“Hold still, mijo. Let me see.”
Dorcas was dragged out of the kitchen while the pair sorted out their injuries. “Shouldn’t we check—”
“Nope! James is certified in first aide.”
“First aide?” Lily repeated. “What happened?”
Dorcas gestured at the kitchen and Lily rushed past her with a grateful wave. It was reassuring to know someone had the common sense to be concerned. James’s jaw had snapped shut with a loud crack on contact. She was still reeling from the shock of it.
“Where are you going?” Pandora asked, frowning at Marlene as she charged toward the door with Dorcas in tow.
“What I should have done a year ago.”
Pandora’s mouth dropped open and her eyes blew wide. Before she could say another word, Marlene led the way out of the flat and kicked the door shut behind her. She remained determined and confident as she towed Dorcas down the stairs and onto the pavement.
When she finally regained her senses, Dorcas pulled back until Marlene slowed her steps. “Where are you taking me? Am I being kidnapped?”
“No, no.”
“Then, where—”
Marlene grinned mischievously and looped Dorcas’s arm around hers. “You’ll see.”
As they approached Trafalgar Square, Dorcas allowed herself to relax. The holiday decorations strung between buildings were lovely, as was the immense Norwegian Spruce strung with vertical lights cascading to the ground from a star at the top. She hadn’t taken the time to admire this year’s gift from Oslo, but seeing the grand tree now filled her chest with pride. Christmas in London was always magical.
Dorcas was struck suddenly breathless at the sight. The beautiful tree was framed by the rushing water of the fountains and the monument behind it, which seemed to blur the temporal boundaries of this place. She was here now, in the past, and the future all at once.
“Oh, it’s so lovely,” Dorcas whispered.
Marlene nodded, leaning her head on Dorcas’s shoulder. “Enthusiasm for the holidays was one of my favourite parts of living here.”
Dorcas idly wondered if they looked as lovestruck as the other couple had while crossing the street. It was a foolish thought, but she didn’t dismiss it out of hand. Marlene called her the “love of her life.” Dorcas didn’t think that Marlene felt the same way about her, about them.
She’d begrudgingly accepted the fact Marlene was her soulmate after she left. Dorcas never felt more herself than in Marlene’s arms. Without her, Dorcas’s protective walls remained up at all times. The vulnerability that Marlene exposed in her was rarely allowed to surface since.
Why didn’t she tell me about the ring? Was she afraid that I’d say “no?” When did she plan to ask?
As her mind filled with questions, Dorcas turned away from the busy square to admire Marlene’s smile in the glow cast from the tree’s golden light. She wished for a glimpse inside her mind. A chance to see for herself if this certified MenaceTM still loved her too.
Is this real? Can we be us again?

with every god awful take about james potter on the internet an angel loses its wings.
what do you mean he didn’t care about the dark arts and death eaters until it affected him personally. what. you mean the famously blood traitor potter family? you mean one of the only actual canon things we have about james being that he hated the dark arts? you mean the james that yelled at snape for calling lily a mudblood?? you mean the james that went on the front lines of a war he had the privilege to not fight in????
please anti blood supremacy is literally ingrained in his core beliefs can we just keep this ONE THING about him 😭

Day Twenty-Eight - Lost
April Daily Series - 666 words (this felt oddly appropriate 😉)
<<<Previous Part OR Start Here
Dorcas wasn’t prepared for the consequences of allowing Marlene in again. She expected the onslaught of sexual tension and pitiful longing. Marlene was a rip current of emotions. When she drifted too close, Dorcas was helpless to resist the pull away from everything that kept her level and grounded.
But the heady adrenaline rush triggered by their antagonistic banter? It sent her reeling!
Am I a child? Flirting with the cute girl by tugging her pigtails? This is ridiculous.
Marlene had lost all semblance of good sense, as well as rushed past that brief moment of insecurity at the restaurant. In its place was the woman’s brash confidence, a living entity that crawled under Dorcas’s skin. She wanted to throttle the nervy twat and fuck her senseless. Dorcas needed to think and this wasn’t helping.
“Dorcas? Are you alright?” Regulus slipped into the kitchen and joined her at the table. “Did you have a row with Marlene, or something? It seemed like the two of you were getting along, but now…”
Dorcas massaged her temples firmly. She’d escaped into the kitchen after Marlene spouted off some nonsense about evening out her arse, which Dorcas was not addicted to groping. It wasn’t her fault that it fit so perfectly into her hands!
“Yes. No…I’m not sure.”
Regulus propped his head on his hand and studied her in silence. His approach was often the opposite of Pandora’s, quiet contemplation rather than talking the matter to death.
After a deep sigh, she let her chin fall to her chest. “I’m a weak, weak woman, Regulus. She wore me down in three days.”
“Two,” he corrected with a smirk, “but the broken nose was understandably distracting while you were at work today. You lasted longer than I would have, if that makes you feel better.”
Has it truly only been two days?
“Yes. A little, actually. If it were James—”
“I wouldn’t allow him out of my sight.” Regulus’s eyes widened momentarily, then he reigned himself in. He nodded at her necklace. “So, she told you about the ring? This isn’t the one she showed me.”
Dorcas toyed with the claddagh ring idly. It felt both strange and comforting to wear it again. She’d missed the weight of it against her breastbone.
“This is her grandmother’s, and her good luck charm. As for the engagement ring,” Dorcas inhaled sharply, “You were right. I needed to know.”
“She calls you the ‘love of her life,’ even now. Did you know that?” Regulus asked.
Dorcas gripped the ring tightly. “She told you that? Just now?”
“No. In the pub last night, before you showed up. She was devastated, Dorcas, and I say that sincerely. I assumed that Pandora had already cleared her visit with you, but Marlene clearly didn’t know that you would be there. She was shattered.”
“She didn’t look it when I arrived,” Dorcas snarked, rolling her eyes. “Practically purring in Narcissa’s lap.”
Regulus grimaced and dropped his gaze. “That was…unfortunate timing, I’ll admit. I didn’t catch on quickly enough. She walked away with Lily and Pandora to dance while James was…never mind. Suffice to say, I would have intervened earlier had I noticed my dear cousin’s interest.”
“You certainly handled the situation perfectly afterwards. Thank you for that, by the way. Highly effective.” Dorcas smiled at his scoff. “I wanted to break her fingers one by one for daring to touch Marlene, but that would have been messy.”
“Agreed, and bloody too,” Regulus said, lips twitching in amusement. “Just imagine the emotions spilling everywhere.”
Dorcas laughed. “You don’t think that I could play it off as retribution for her lascivious thoughts?”
He arched an eyebrow sceptically. “Who do you think you are? Circe?”
“I could be. Narcissa deserves to be pigified, the greedy bitch.”
“Would you settle for giving her a little corkscrew tail and a snout?” Regulus teased, losing his fight with a grin.
Dorcas shook her head. “I’m with the bruja, go whole hog or go home.”

Day Twenty-Seven - Grand @sapphicmicrofics
April Daily Series - 635 words
<<<Previous Part OR Start Here
“Does that mean that you want my feelings?” Marlene asked, head tilted curiously. “Or are you still thinking about it?”
She needed to hear from Dorcas’s own lips that she wanted to fix this mess too. As much as she wished that one grand gesture would undo a full year of loss, Marlene knew better. Even if she won Dorcas over now, they both had aches to soothe.
Dorcas’s thumb smoothed calming circles into Marlene’s cheek. “Of course I do. That was never in question, was it?”
“I need you to be 100% sure, Cas. I’m happy to blow up my entire world to be with you, but I don’t want to be left sitting in the blast radius alone,” Marlene said, placing her hand over Dorcas’s.
“First of all, we’re not blowing up anything. You always rush into the nuclear option, Marly. Secondly, you need to breathe while we figure this out. You’re spiralling every time you have a small misstep.”
Marlene inhaled deeply and closed her eyes. Dorcas was right, as usual. Even though she wanted Dorcas back now, Marlene realised that she was asking for a lot of commitment. Especially for someone who only just decided on this path for herself.
“I don’t know where to start,” Marlene admitted. “There’s so much to untangle and I wasn’t considering anything specific past snogging you.”
Dorcas searched her face for a full minute. It seemed that she found what she was looking for because she nodded approvingly. “If you want a guarantee, I’m fresh out. If you’re willing to be patient, then I’m willing to compromise.”
“You’re ignoring the snogging comment, aren’t you?”
“For now,” Dorcas agreed. “Not because I don’t want to, but because it would be foolish to assume that the rest will work itself out when this bombed so spectacularly last time. Until we can sort out how to live in the same place at the same time, I think that we should reserve our affection.”
Marlene nodded slowly and pursed her lips in thought. “So, what you’re saying is that you want to kiss me, but you’re afraid that my lips will hypnotise you into agreeing to whatever I want.”
“Do you hear yourself when you speak?”
“Admit it, Cas. You can’t resist me,” Marlene teased, toying with the end of one long braid. “Now who’s addicted?”
Dorcas arched one eyebrow, then shoved Marlene off of her lap. “Still you.”
Marlene landed on her bum with a startled yelp, then grinned triumphantly as she watched Dorcas stride out of the bedroom. She knew she’d pushed too far, but Marlene never did anything halfway. Her innate urge to test boundaries and push limits was one of the reasons they worked so well together. Dorcas remained firm and unyielding with very little give.
Yet those rare moments of allowance occasionally turned into surrender, and Marlene thrived on the possibility of making it happen. A mere hint of surrender stimulated her obsession. It didn’t help that Dorcas’s annoyance turned her on, but it did, every fucking time. A woman with hard limits turned her feral.
“Come back and do it again, Cas! My arse has two cheeks and I want them even!” she yelled after her.
From the hallway, Dorcas scoffed, “Shut it, nervy twat.”
A few moments later, Pandora peered into the room. When her gaze landed on Marlene, she frowned. “What did you say to her?”
“I made her feel things again. She hates that,” Marlene announced loudly, laughing as she lifted to her feet.
“Piss off, McKinnon!”
“That’s ‘Marly’ to you!”
Pandora glanced between the two of them and sighed. “You’re as bad as each other.”
“Nah, she just enjoys being chased,” Marlene said. She walked around Dorcas’s bed and paused to study the pictures still tacked to the cork board. “And I am her favourite predator.”
