This isn’t really a question (at all) but I just have to rant HOW MUCH your books meant to me when I was younger 😭 I have such vivid memories of them, like my mom driving me to an art camp and me sitting in the car starting the first Story Thieves for the first time…gosh I was OBSESSED with that series! I would recommend it to absolutely EVERYONE. I lent my copy to so many people and even read the first four books aloud to my younger brother (before he went ahead and read the 5th one without me 💀 Which was crazy since at that time, he hated books. Story Thieves got him to actually enjoy reading). I also read Half Upon a Time and Revenge of Magic (which I loved) but man…Story Thieves has to be in my top 5 childhood books I read. It left such an impact on me. So thank you for creating an absolute STAPLE of my childhood, your a legend

How many books do you think Dragon’s Apprentice will have?

Three, at least to start! After learning my lesson from REVENGE OF MAGIC, I basically plotted THE DRAGON'S APPRENTICE out like seasons in a tv show, so that if people like it, I know where things will go in the next "season", but if it doesn't take off, readers will still get a complete story in those first three.

I realized a lotta characters in James Riley’s books have father problems.

Half Upon a Time

Jack - Is raised without his father in his life

May - Is also raised without a father

Phillip - His father is killed by a giant

Story Thieves

Owen - His father divorced his mom

Bethany - Her father is taken away when she turned four

Kiel - He is a clone and doesn’t have a father

Charm - Her entire family died, including her father

Moira - Has a cop dad while she is a villain

Orion - Is an orphan

Gwen - Never knew her parents

The Revenge of Magic

Fort - His dad is taken away by a monster

Cyrus - Is an old one and doesn’t have a father

Damian - Is a Dragon and never met his father

Ember - Is also a dragon and never met her real father, but was adopted

Once Upon Another Time

Lena - Is much smaller than her parents

Jin - Is a genie and doesn’t have a father (though the person who brought him to life is an ifrit who is trapped in a mirror)

are jack and jill twins? i think i remember you once answered an ask and said they aren't, but in happily ever after thomas calls them twins

“If it’s officially in a book saying they’re twins, then that should mean they’re twins!” he said, realizing he probably messed that up either during that ask on tumblr, or when writing HAPPILY EVER AFTER.  If I remember my thinking right, and I definitely don’t and never, ever will, Jill considers herself Jack’s older sister, even if she was born just a few minutes before, so maybe that’s what I meant? Either way, if you don’t like them as twins, just assume that Thomas was calling them that to sort of lump them together. 

(In general, I don’t think about details about the characters or setting as much as I do the plot and what the characters are thinking and feeling. But that says more about what I’m interested in than anything, and I definitely know that’s not the norm for most readers. So if I do say something and then contradict myself later, just assume I had no idea what I was talking about either time, and remember that these stories are yours, so whatever you want to believe about the characters is totally fine by me!)

Not in the first book (it’s a small village), but it wouldn’t surprise me if someone with that name showed up eventually!

how exactly does emrys living backward in time work in rom? i think it's different in that he isn't born as an old man and slowly gets younger (citation: merlin is thousands of years older than cyrus)?

also, if emrys used time magic to align his time with everyone else's, what happened when he lost his magic? :>

You’re totally right, he wasn’t born as an old man. When his family took control of magic, it threw him forward in time thousands of years (I forget exactly how far), so from that day forward, he began to live backwards, meaning for every day he got older, time would reverse one day into the past. He lives just like us, only with time moving backwards: so for him, his “tomorrow” would be our “yesterday.” Does that help at all? I know it's confusing!

For your second question: the magic that was taken from him was the same magic that cursed him to live backwards, so when he lost it, he reverted to living the correct way around. A little bit of a silver lining for him there!
