Here is my completed FMP Sketchbook, I am very proud of my sketchbook and love what I have created. Even though not all my work was handed in on time I wanted to make sure my sketchbook was fully completed and made sure it has everything in.
Here are some unedited photos from my photoshoot, I love how all the images came out and am very happy with all the different photos I got. I decided to do my photoshoot in a field just because I didn’t want the background to be too overwhelming and take away from the collection items.
Here are my final 2 prints that will be used on my T-shirts and Tote Bags. The first print is my take on her print ‘Top Brass’ this was a print from the 1960’s and was extremely popular. I decided to use work that I had done in my sketchbook, like samples, collaging pages, etc. to recreate her print in a more unique way.
For the second print, I wanted to do a print based on the 1980’s but in fact struggled to find prints that Rhodes designed in the 80’s, so I decided to take her icon wiggle which is seen in many of her prints and also a symbol of the 80’s, a cassette player, and mixed them together.
I am very happy with both prints and think they capture the 1960’s and 1980’s perfectly, whilst still incorporating the inspiration behind the designs, Zandra Rhodes.
Fashion in the 90's was heavily influenced by many things including the grungy, alternative look, pop culture and supermodels, fashion went back to been more simple and minimalistic compare to the 80’s when fashion went a bit wild. Some of the most popular trends in the 90’s included, lots of denim, oversized jumpers, preppy fashion and many more. Fashion in the 90’s brought back the youth culture and gave people the freedom to enter their rebellious fashion era. Grunge and minimalism were the main trends seen throughout the 90’s. Many designers took inspiration from the grunge era and supermodels were traded in for new models to fit Kate Moss’ “heroin chic and “too cool to share.
I made a little inspration board just to help me start designing my final prints. I knew I wanted to include Zandra Rhodes' famous wiggle that is seen in many of her prints and also as I was looking closer into the 60's and 80's I wanted something iconic for my final 80's print and decided I wanted to do a cassette player as part of it. In the end I decided to mix Zandra's famous wiggle and a drawinng of a cassette player that I had drawn. For my other final print I took a lot of insporation from one of her most famous prints from the 60's 'Top Brass'. I loved this print and wanted to think of a way to incorparte my own work as well as Rhodes' print, so I decided to use pages from my sketchbook and also samples I had made to recreate Zandra's print in my own way.
I wanted to create a half & half of a Keith Haring print as I have already got research on Haring on my blog and wanted something in my sketchbook to support it. I did the research on Keith Haring because he was another well known prints artists. I used acrylic paint and a black pro-marker to create my half & half.
