Usually, I would start a blog post by posting the synopsis from the book I’ve just read, but this time I’m posting about a series. Namely The Selection Series by Kiera Cass.
Just before we start, I apologise if I let anything slip and give you spoilers you don’t want. I try and keep them to a minimum but I do tend to let things slip, so I’m sorry
The Selection starts off with meeting America Singer who lives in Carolina in the distant future. Since WW4, people have been put into Castes, where you are basically thought of by how much money you have and what kind of job you can do. Ones are the royal family, two are important people and celebrities, threes are teachers and educators, and so on till you get to Eights who are the gutter.  Basically homeless and unemployable and seriously looked down on.
America and her family are fives. They are singers and artists. Her father seems quite happy but her mother just wants them all to strive for themselves. The Selection is announced and America’s secret boyfriend Aspen (who is a six and below her, hence the reason he is secret) convinces America to enter and compete for the hand of the Prince.  She reluctantly agrees and goes ahead.  Her mother tries to convince her and is quite happy when America agrees. On the day of submitting the application Aspens mother slips she thinks that Aspen is going to ask this secret girl to marry him so America is absolutely overjoyed at the though and it conveys that through her application.
Out of 35 women, America is one of the chosen and makes her way to the palace, not before she manages to have a fight and break up with Aspen. (This is only a little bit btw)
Here is where the story really starts.
Through the next five books, we slowly watch 35 women dwindle and watch relationships form and fall around America. She is such a fighter and so proud that she changes people and you can tell she truly believes in herself but is so ready to fight for what she wants. Does she get to the end and be with Maxon, the Prince or is she going to end up with Aspen? 4 books for a selection is a lot but there is a lot of story to tell.  The last book The Crown is actually set 20 years after Americas selection and it’s her daughter who this story revolves around. A little different but just as good as the rest of the series.
This is where I end giving you info on the story.  I think I’ve said enough. haha
It was a lovely series.  Totally aimed at young adult but can be enjoyed by anyone really.  It was young but nice. I read it for the first time three years ago and loved it, this time I took my time a bit and enjoyed it a bit more but its still a fast, easy ready and something to tide you over if you don’t know what else to read.
I also read the companion book called Happily Ever After also by Kiera Cass.  It has 4/5 novellas inside to give you an insight to the other characters and was surprisingly enjoyable.  It gave you just enough of the back story and little titbits from other characters.  There was The Queen, The Prince, The Maid, The Favourite, The Epilogue, The Guard and Scenes from Celeste, each with a side note from Kiera, explaining a little about why she wrote each character.  It was so good.  The one I loved best I think was The Queen.  It was from Queen Amberlys point of view and it was so nice to see a bit of background from her.  I would have actually have loved to have seen a full-length novel about her and her selection rather than a novella.  She seemed so beloved in Americas selection, I would have liked to learn a bit about her.
The other thing that drew me to the novellas were the beautiful illustrations inside.
I loved these pictures, it was a little insight into what was in Kiera’s head when she was writing.
A well worth series to read.  Even if you don’t like romance or are into young adult give it a go.  It’s an easy but fun read with lots going on.
Enjoy
Lee

The Girl in the Ice by Robert Bryndza
The Girl in the Ice by Robert Bryndza
I’ve had this book on my Kindle for a while and while looking through all the books I have on there it caught my eye. It seemed exactly what I was looking for.
Her eyes are wide open. Her lips parted as if to speak. Her dead body frozen in the ice…She is not the only one.
When a young boy discovers the body of a woman beneath a thick sheet of ice in a South London park, Detective Erika Foster is…

The Death Of Mrs Westaway by Ruth Ware
The Death Of Mrs Westaway by Ruth Ware
I spotted this in my local bookshop. I loved the blurb on the back and couldn’t wait to read it.
When Harriet Westaway receives an unexpected letter telling her she’s inherited a substantial bequest from her Cornish grandmother, it seems like the answer to her prayers. She owes money to a loan shark and the threats are getting increasingly aggressive: she needs to get her hands on some cash fast.

I’ve been on holiday over the past couple of weeks so bear with me…
I haven’t read a Stephen King book for a long time so I was delighted when the book club chose this.
When an eleven-year-old boy is found murdered in a town park, reliable eyewitnesses undeniably point to the town’s popular Little League coach, Terry Maitland, as the culprit. DNA evidence and fingerprints confirm the crime was…

I couldn’t tell you the last time I read a Stephen King book. So when my book club chose to read this I was a bit excited. I’ll admit I wasn’t sure what the book was about but I had a fair idea that I would enjoy it.
This what the synopsis from Goodreads says…
