Shipping and thirsting over idols is normal. We all do it. The idols did it with previous generations of idols. Its a natural (vital, even) part of fandom and fan culture. A big argument i see against shipping specifically is that it makes the idols uncomfortable, but a big part of that is we've gone from shipping and fanfic being this open secret that we kinda pretend doesn't exist to this very open and visible thing that gets pushed at them. I was a late 1st- early 2nd gen fan. Back in the late 2000s just the idea of an idol looking at our fics would have people panicking, and the idea of deliberately sending it to an idol was considered sasaeng-like behavior. It just wasnt done in polite fan society. Fanworks were BY fans FOR fans. Exclusively. If idols were finding our fanfics and spicy art and ship edits, they were coming into our spaces and engaging with the content as ordinary people on the internet. That's no longer the case. Now people will openly send smut fics to the idols directly, tag them in explicit twitter threads, ask them about shipping and sexual content to their face at fanmeets and fancalls where they can't disengage from the conversation. THAT absolutely makes them uncomfortable. Because now they have to be hypervigilant during EVERY interaction they have with another person, including us fans. There's an invisible line between the idols and the audience and most fanworks need to remain on our side of it. If they come looking for explicit content of themselves, so be it. They do so with the understanding that they are in our space and playing by our rules and have effectively clicked the little box marked "i understand this work may contain explicit material and consent to see this content" and hit go. Bangchan knowingly watches thirst edits of himself. He consents to see that content. Members of BTS and a few other bands have said they read smut fic of themselves with their bandmates and other idols. They willingly searched for that content and consented to see it. They important thing in these instances is THEY sought out the content. WE did not just randomly force it on them, and they are free to disengage at any time if it goes beyond their comfort level, which is 100% how it should be. IMO if an idol explicitly says "please show me your fanfiction/ship art/edits/whatever" then fair game. Otherwise as far as the idols are concerned, the content does not exist. That's the least we can do to be respectful of them and their boundaries.

I have to talk about this, i can't keep this in me more because it's making me more and more mad. Why are TikTok people, TikTok users, are so afraid of "sexualising" or shipping the Stray Kids members with each other??? They are not fucking kids. They are probably looking at these and laughing!?!?! They are not bothered, they are grown fucking men!?!?! Why are you acting like they are children!?!?!?
