The one thing about Endgame I can’t get past, the one thing that first WandaVision and moreso The Falcon & the Winter Soldier made brutally, abundantly clear, isn’t even Steve’s super shitty ending, it’s that the Avengers made things infinitely worse by reversing the Blip.
It’d be one thing if they’d made the Blip never take place, or restored everyone one millisecond after they disappeared — things they absolutely could have done, by the way — but they didn’t. They brought them all back five years later. It’s insane. It’s sociopathic.
First of all, a lot of people didn’t disappear that day. They died. People who got hit by suddenly driverless cars, people who went down on pilotless airplanes, people skydiving when the instructor disappeared, people whose doctors crumbled to dust mid-surgery, babies who wasted away in their cribs because their parents got Snapped. None of those people got restored in the Reverse Snap. They just stayed dead.
Second of all, everyone got brought back right where they’d disappeared. Which is fine in theory. Except isn’t it pretty lucky no one was sitting in that chair when Monica got restored? And also that apparently no one had moved that chair in five years? So what if you were on a plane that’s no longer in the air? What if you were on a boat that’s no longer in the middle of the ocean? What if you were skydiving and now there’s no parachute? What if you were on the top floor of a building that’s since been demolished? What if you were in your car in the middle of the freaking freeway? That’s thousands more deaths, conservatively.
But forget about all those dead people for a sec. TFatWS makes it explicit that the world is in complete chaos because of the Reverse Snap. People are displaced, families have been torn apart, people are angry and scared and no one knows what to do. It’s so clear that if the Avengers weren’t going to undo the Snap completely — if they weren’t going to undo it at the moment it happened — then they shouldn’t have undone it at all. That it would have been kinder, better to have let the Snapped stay Snapped. Not just for the sake of the people left, but for the people who disappeared.
Imagine the absolute hell of materializing five years in the future to find someone else living in your house, someone else married to your spouse. To find out your baby died or your mom or your partner. And by the way you have no credit, you have no money, no job history, no possessions, nothing. But good luck trying to rebuild your life and all! Aren't you glad we brought you back? You're welcome!
If the MCU ended with Endgame and no one ever had to think about the ramifications, then fine. Whatever. It’s a happy ending. What a cool final battle!
But it didn’t end there. And as such, it’s not a happy ending. It’s deranged. The Avengers are villains.
And it’s just so weird that no one in-universe seems to acknowledge this. That what the Avengers did was bad. That all this chaos, all this suffering, is entirely their fault.
“Yeah, things suck, but I sure do hope Captain America 1.0 is having fun on the moon! Man, we all miss Iron Man!”
W H A T
I don’t know how to deal with that. I don’t know how we, as an audience, are supposed to reconcile with that. I don’t know how they think they can make that decision seem heroic when every subsequent movie and show just makes it retroactively worse.

petition for guillermo del toro to be the director of the venom sequel, because he’s the only man who can be trusted to accurately and faithfully portray the romance, the sizzling passion involved in monster fucking.

#TONY'S CORPORATE BACKGROUND (TM) #FUCKING SHOWS IN HIS STANCE yes i'm listening please elaborate
Confident Business Executive Power Pose my friend
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
head up
shoulders back
stomach in
and, more interestingly, in tony’s case: as a wannabe entrepreneur going through training and seminars and stuff, i was personally advised that, if i think my hands might betray lack of confidence (trembling, fidddling with shit, excessive face-touching, etc), i should keep them loosely out of sight or try to talk using them, while compromising chest openness as little as possible (ie, don’t fold your arms across your chest) (which, by the way, tony does A LOT throughout all movies, and it’s a huge huge huge hugE defensiveness/insecurity body language tell, but anyway, that’s a whole other post)

tony seems to be pretty aware that his hands are the achilles’ heel of his Fake Confidence ™, and indeed
Tumblr media
check out that right hand. if you watch it in the movie, you’ll see that he keeps clenching it and unclenching it
the thing with the hands also places tony’s drinking in a very particular place. some alcoholics do develop the compulsion to not only drink (obviously), but also to physically hold a glass when they are feeling pressured, or [whatever emotion that’s associated with the urge to drink]. smokers might develop a similar thing (think about people who hold unlit cigarettes between their fingers even when they’re trying to stop)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Kill Me, he doesn’t let go even when they’re being attacked. he actually holds on tighter, Kill Me)
Tumblr media
also, this stance seems to be particularly prominent in avengers movies, which implies that this is where tony’s felt the most conscious urge to deliberately project confidence
which, you know. clearly means he was feeling insecure as fuck the whole time

Robert Downey Jr. has a much darker past, we have read it and we already know it, but he is hiding it from us doing an overly proud demeanor.
Chris Evans has anxiety and major commitment issues, he talks about it and we already know it, but he always has his radiant smile drawn on his face to hide from us.
Chris Hemsworth's family life was once at a risk of divorce with kids, but he and Elsa managed to keep it afloat despite all obstacles, and they are going for a happily ever after like nothing happened.
Jeremy Renner has done wrong in his past, caught into a false accusation, but now he has his daughter's custody and he lives a peaceful life, even without us knowing.
Scarlett Johansson, abused as a child actress, has to do romantic scenes with actors twice her age during her teenage, going marriage after marriage with her daughter, but yet scored a double Academy nominations and continues to be a role model for girls all around the world.
Tom Holland, with the pressure of rising to the fame as a child, he still continues to entertain the world even though his fans are somewhat childish and very intrusive.
Sebastian Stan, an immigrant who lacked social skills in the past, incredibly shy and yet hide all those from his fans because he knows that they all love him dearly.
Mark Ruffalo, continues to save the world by going against all those big companies as an environmentalist, has a really strong political opinion, but yet being so down to Earth around us.
Brie Larson, facing all backlash from the social media, for voicing her heartfelt opinion, still going on to inspire young girls around the world to stand up for themselves.
Last but not least, Chadwick Boseman, giving his best for 4 Marvel Movies (Civil War, Black Panther, Infinity War and the Endgame) and 3 Non Marvel Movies (Marshall, 21 Bridges and Da 5 bloods) from 2016, while having stage 4 colon cancer, fighting until he was succumbed to the death. And we never knew.
Be nice and kind to everyone, not only in the various social media platforms, but also in the real life. Because we really don't know what is going in their lives.
Once you realise that, you maybe too late to even correct your mistakes. ❤🙏

I guess this is how I’m processing what we’re all going through right now. I had the stray thought, “What is Spider-Man doing during all this?” and this happened. On the one hand, it’s kinda sloppy and inconsistent, but on the other hand, I had the idea Sunday night and I’m posting this Wednesday night. 5 color pages in 4 nights is pretty good work. Anyway. Hope everyone’s safe out there.
