Transformers: Mosaic #646 - "Bounty On Bludgeon"
Originally posted on May 14th, 2012

Colours - Benjamin Sawyer
Letters - Kenny Jeffrey
deviantART | Seibertron | TFW2005
wada sez: People didn’t really like this one. Mike said on deviantART: “thanks for digging the art-as for the story, I purposely didn't think too far into it. Lockdown collects a bounty on Bludgeon, frying coneheads in his path. Thats it. Just a fun one pager that just came together as I was drawing it, no more, no less..take it or leave it. Just wanted to draw some Decepticons I like in a simple and short fashion, like a snippet out of a larger tale. Use your imagination and fill in the blanks.” Bludgeon and Lockdown both appear in their toy-only Revenge of the Fallen designs, which people commonly repurposed as the characters’ G1 incarnations.

Transformers: Mosaic #645 - "Down And Out In Downtown Kaon"
Originally posted on May 8th, 2012
Story, Colours, Letters - HdE
Art - Jason Ho
deviantART | Seibertron | TFW2005
wada sez: This strip leads into Megatron Origin issue #2—the irony being that the Constructicons only use Wheezel and his friend as raw material for their building work. The graffiti on the walls reads “WHEELIE WAS HERE” and “REJECT THE PROPGANDA [sic] - BLASTER [...] WRONG”, both in the exact same text, implying maybe Wheelie had a countercultural phase I guess? Other snatches include “BELIEVE IN [...] OF”, “THE WORLD IS ENOUGH FOR ALL OF US”, and “PIT FIGHT HERE TONIGHT”.

wada sez: This strip seems heavily inspired by a scene from the Sunbow cartoon episode “Attack of the Autobots”, in which Jazz tests his new sound system with Spike (and others) in a canyon. Willamette Valley is where Portland is situated in Oregon.

Transformers: Shattered Glass Comics - "Birth Of The Sixchangers"
Originally posted on May 14th, 2012

wada sez: I think First Aid has been given a Constructicon color scheme here, because the Shattered Glass Constructicons share a white/red medical color scheme? The color schemes for Quickswitch and Sixshot appear to have been created by simply inverting their usual color schemes. Possibly entirely coincidentally, almost ten years later, John-Paul Bove would take exactly the same approach with Sixshot for the official IDW Shattered Glass comic series, arriving at an identical color scheme. I suppose it’s possible Bove just Googled “Shattered Glass Sixshot”, but it seems unlikely he’d lie about doing so! See below for the clean inks and colors for this strip.

Transformers: Shattered Glass Comics - "To The Death"
Originally posted on May 13th, 2012
Story - Wout Jut
Art, Edits - Mike Ackerman
Colours, Edits - Lisa Sky
deviantART
wada sez: To recycle his Grimlock/Overkill strip with Ackerman for his Shattered Glass project, Wout Jut had the whole thing recolored to instead cast them as Thrustor/Grimlock! Thrustor is an odd choice for Shattered Glass, selected solely for his saurian alternate mode. Note how the second and last panels were swapped to better suit the new script. Clean colors below.

deviantART
wada sez: Hey, this ain’t a Shattered Glass story! Apparently, Wout Jut wrote it on request from Ackerman. Overkill’s Universe toy was a redeco of Classics Grimlock, so there’s a direct connection between the characters; you may recall “Upgrades” similarly riffed on that idea. Clean inks below.

Colours, Letters - Brandy Dixon

wada sez: In the Shattered Glass universe, the Scrounges are a bunch of disposable, interchangable drones under Blaster’s command; a riff on Scrounge being unique thanks to his “special arm”. This one was actually published as a Mosaic! It was Brandy Dixon’s first ever lettering effort, per a comment on TFW2005.

deviantART | Seibertron | TFW2005
wada sez: This is Martin Fisher’s penultimate Mosaic strip. As always, having one of the greatest Transformers artists of all time on art duties goes a long way, but this is a remarkably entertaining take on the antipathy between Motormaster and the rest of the Stunticons! While the characters of Wildrider, Dead End, and Breakdown struggle to come through in their brief lines, Drag Strip exclaiming “I always win!” is a great expression of his Budiansky bio. See below for clean inks.

wada sez: See the link above for some commentary! On deviantART, the project team clarified: “Yep, multiple Abominuses (or is it Abomini? :D ), these guys had so little personality in the cartoon that the ones we saw in the show could have very well been different sets of Terrorcons, it's also a nod to the armies of Terrorcons the Quints had in TF:Energon.” They also had this to say about their involvement with Mosaic generally: “this will be most probably one of our last Mosaics as we've been asked to not submit any more thre-part stories.” The evil is defeated!

wada sez: The first part of yet another three-part trilogy from these guys, titled “They Were Titans”—y’know, ‘cause they’re literally Titans. I’m told Mosaic at one point had a hard limit on multi-part stories going no longer than three strips, and I have to imagine that was entirely because of this team. Click the link above to find out what they meant by this, I’m not your dad. See below for a character model for the little Sharkticons and a cover for this storyline.

wada sez: Contrary to the credit given, the dialogue here is actually lifted entirely wholesale from Simon Furman’s debut on the Marvel Comics series with issue #56. Lafferty has redrawn it using IDW designs, but appears not to have known about Goldbug’s IDW appearance in Spotlight: Metroplex. Clean colors below.
