Welsh is an official language of Wales. This means, legally, it cannot be treated less favourably than English in any part of daily life. So we have bilingual signs and sometimes the translations are… well just awful.

This is a classic and made the news.

Welsh reads “I am not in the office at the moment. Send any work to be translated.

In English these drinks are alcohol free in Welsh the drinks are free “Alcohol for nothing”.

Um- Welsh reads “Free erections” yes really!

This seems a tad harsh “Injure yourself now”

Wording is fine but the English and the Welsh disagree on right/left

The sign says “Parcio I Bobi Anabl” which is “Parking to bake the disabled” which I don’t think Tesco were going for.

i really could write an essay on how shit is that we’ve completely abandoned the monster-of-the-week episode format even when rebooting shows that relied on it to replace them with grimdark edgy plotlines where nothing feels good or accomplished at the end of the day

Little headcannon here, but I imagine that after announcing their engagement to Lucy, she insisted on getting a picture taken for them to remember the occasion. Naturally, they in turn insisted that she stand with them, and that in turn led to them doing a funny little photo shoot because they thought it would be a better memory to have.

I just really like Victorian photos where people are doing funny poses while looking completely serious or neutral. These three are two seconds away from laughing.

Also here’s a fun little extra, because that second part was a bit of a downer.

RIP Lucy, you would have loved climbing on random things to take pictures.

I'm reading this Dracula article and some parts made me think of you!

Harker’s liberated subjunctive power at Castle Dracula allows him to defy the laws of Newtonian physics and activate the most primitively evolved reptilian brain when he imitates his liminal master by crawling up and down the Castle battlements “in his lizard fashion” (4:70, 3:49).

They argue that Jonathan is (unwillingly) a neophyte (the other ones being Lucy, and Mina, but each in different ways that they analyze), and that he undergoes a "lengthy initiation process" towards to and in the Castle which unlocks his potential.

We have seen how Harker’s observation (and practice) of Dracula’s reptilian power suggests his own subjective limbic potential. Here we might only note Harker’s related connection with shapeshifting and transformative “lunar symbolism” when he observes the peculiar effect of the moonlight on the terrified ring of wolves near Castle Dracula – and then its equally “strange and uncanny” saturnine effect on him as “a heavy cloud passed across the face of the moon, so that we were again in darkness” (1:22-23).

Once more, the neophyte’s identity is deconstructed to “fruitful darkness” (Forest 110) so that it can be reconstructed during the enlightening liminal phase, which begins at Castle Dracula.

hey, did you know that Dracula and War Of The Worlds were published within a year of each other? if we take their publication date as their setting, Dracula is set in 1897, and the prologue of War Of The Worlds is set in 1898, with the majoroty of the story taking place an unspecified numbers of years later, sometime in the early 1900s. maybe 7 years after Dracula? did you also know that the Martians in the story drink blood? gosh, imagine alien vampires!

all this to say, i've written a crossover fic.
