So when Trent Crimm speaks, he just leans back, looking up at the sky, and listens.
“Your father’s a cunt,” is the first thing Trent Crimm says, which Jamie was really not expecting. He nearly chokes. He isn’t even sure Trent Crimm meant to say it, because he winces, but then Trent Crimm’s briskly moving on, a torrent of water crashing and sweeping down the riverpath.

Trent’s mind has gone blank. He wants to say mess? MESS? I love you, you absolute tit, but he’s too caught up on the—the implications. On what Ted isn’t saying.
It’d have been easy for him to just apologetically tell Trent that he’s straight, or that he doesn’t have feelings for Trent, he just doesn’t, he’s sorry. It’d have been easy for him to let Trent down gently. Instead, he’s—he’s saying this.
“What are you saying?” says Trent, eyes wider than ever, wet, voice trembling, and Ted gives a shaky sigh.
“I think what I’m sayin’ is worse than a rejection,” he confesses, voice rough and quiet, and he won’t look up at Trent’s face. “I’m sorry. I’m real sorry.”
“What are you saying?” repeats Trent, strained but insistent, tears becoming audible, and Ted gives a defeated sigh, deflating.
☔Is there a fic concept you have that you'd like to just explain and share because you're not sure you'll ever write it? If so, what is it?

Trent finally falters, although his smile remains—helplessly fond, a little amused—and he asks, “What?”
Ted blinks, still smiling, too, and shakes his head slightly as if dislodging a leaf from his hair. “What?” he echoes. “Hey, I was listenin’, I promi—”
“No, I know,” says Trent, “I just—why are you looking at me like that?”
Ted tips his head to the side slightly further. “Like what?” he asks.
“Like—” Trent gestures wildly—he’s always been the type to talk with his hands, but it gets worse the drunker and/or sleepier he gets—and nearly hits Ted in the face with his hand as he does, but Ted dodges with a little laugh, “like that!”
“What, smilin’?” asks Ted.
“Smiling like that,” Trent repeats, gesturing uselessly again. He wants to ask if he has something on his face, but unless it’s a priceless piece of art somehow stuck to his forehead, he isn’t sure what would explain this.

But really, it felt more like gravity, like magnetism, like collapsing orbit.
Or at least it had to Trent, who, were he not so warm and tingly and heavy with spiced, alcoholic cider and the heady feeling of Ted Lasso’s full attention, would have ordinarily dismissed such romantic notions as sweet but false. Such things were only in his head, after all, or at the least, were entirely one-sided.
So he thought.
Regardless, he was too tipsy—between the cider and Ted’s smile, directed at him, for him—to dismiss it for once, or even really linger on it. Consciously, that is.
No, he’s just enjoying it, basking in it. Leaning into Ted and enjoying the fuzzy warmth, the intimacy of staying up late and alone with another person, legs touching and faces lit only by pale, indistinct light, pale like moonlight, flickering like a candle flame.
Ted steals a sip of Trent’s drink and laughs at something Trent’s said—neither of them want to get up to refill his, and it’s not as if Trent minds—and when Trent next raises the glass to his lips he can’t help but think, with a barely hidden smile, all giddy and childish and pleased, that it’s kind of an indirect kiss.

Ted’s mouth is on his, Ted’s hands on his face, and he feels all warm and fuzzy, absolutely dizzy with it—Trent can hardly believe he’s here, but his heart is about to burst with joy.
“We should probably talk about this, honeybee,” breathes Ted, their lips still almost brushing, their noses bumping together.
“Honeybee,” repeats Trent, almost laughing, but it’s helplessly fond, warm. Honeybee. Why does he love that?
“Honeybee,” repeats Ted, firmly, and he ducks down to give Trent a quick little kiss and then leans back a little when Trent chases his lips. Trent lets out a little whine—and Ted gives him a look like he thinks that’s adorable and it makes Trent want to squirm—but Ted doesn’t relent.

Trent received the mysterious invitation in a way he assumed was supposed to be mysterious, which is to say, it was slipped mysteriously onto his desk, probably while the mysterious slipper of notes was mysteriously humming the Mission Impossible theme. Trent knows this because he watched as Colin delivered it. Mysteriously.
Colin didn’t notice him standing, amused, in full line of sight of this minor spectacle. He instead looked both ways, much like a cartoon robber, and then slipped out of the shared office, having never looked out the window.
🌀Post the fic summary for a fic you haven't written/published yet. It can be hypothetical or something you really plan on releasing…
okay i have literally ilke three or four different librarians aus with different ideas in it but the one i'm really invested in and have written snippets for but may be too big to do properly atm is as follows:
At a low point in his life, Ted is given a mysterious job offer by an old friend he hasn’t seen in a while—an inscrutable, lovely, and deeply loyal old friend—and ends up becoming the Guardian (and wrangler!) for a series of Librarians in training. Namely, an arrogant young hacker/thief named Jamie Tartt, a genius who’s been pretending to be a meathead football player for most of his life called Roy Kent, and Keeley Jones, who’s a bubbly, energetic whiz with an aptitude for magic who happens to be dying. Beard, the old Librarian, is often out on missions, barely in contact, but Ted has one touchstone: the mysterious caretaker of the Library, Trent Crimm, who seems to be absolutely full of secrets.
i don't know if i'd actually stick with roy jamie and keeley as the LITs but i was so into it. mostly i'm obsessed with the tedependent dynamic here (obviously wildly different to their librarians' counterparts) and what i wanna do with trent's whole thing
❄️Share a snippet from a WIP of your choosing.
Trent crashes directly into Ted Lasso’s chest—his warm, broad chest—and Ted, seemingly more on haphazard, clumsy instinct than anything else, scrambles to catch him with a woah there!
Which is to say, Trent nearly smashes to the floor, but instead is caught rather securely in Ted Lasso’s arms. His warm, strong arms. Trent’s now blinking up at him, suspended, and Lasso is looking at him with genuine concern on his face. His handsome face. Trent mentally notes, rather distantly and somewhat hysterically, that Ted Lasso has kind eyes. Oh, god. Trent’s so fucked.
“Uh,” says Ted Lasso, looking down at the man in his arms—the man who is most certainly a sports journalist, who has a blush spreading to the tips of his ears despite his furiously confused expression, who is rather warm and fits nicely in Ted’s arms, and who Ted essentially has in a dip. “You alright there? Oh, I like your glasses.”
Trent’s face feels hot. Camera flashes are going off. This is completely mortifying. This is going to be a disaster, professionally speaking. Not to mention the gossip, the teasing. It’s going to be unbearable. He could cry.
But he has a soulmate.
He, Trent Crimm, has a soulmate. Someone who’s supposed to love him, despite everything, someone who Trent can love wholly and freely.

Henry gives in immediately. “I like Trent,” he says, crossing his arms. “He’s way better than Jake.” His dad chokes, but Henry keeps talking. “He’s nice, and he doesn’t talk to me like I’m dumb, and Dora’s really nice, too, and I’ve always wanted a sister anyway!”
His dad looks a bit like he’s choking. “Henry,” he says, a little strained, “You want me to—date someone for. a sibling?”
“No,” says Henry, crossing his arms harder. “I want you to date Trent for a sibling.”
Henry’s dad makes a weird little noise, and Henry’s not sure if it’s laughter or what.

Climbing onto the bed behind him to murmur in his ear, leaving a kiss just below his ear to make him tip his head to the side to laugh, to silently beg for more, leaving hickeys scattered across his throat. Taking Trent’s wrists—closing those big, warm hands around them—and bringing them together behind his back. Just as gently tying those together as he did his ankles, checking to make sure they were safe. Pressing a kiss to Trent’s bare shoulder.
Carefully brushing the hair out of his eyes, gathering it, combing it with his fingers, and tying it up with a red hair-tie, high and a little messy, and kissing the nape of his neck to feel how he shivered. And the final touch: a red ribbon, carefully wrapped around his throat like pearls on a beautiful woman, or a bow on a gift, or a collar on a pet.

“Wh—no?”
“Not your fault, then,” says Roy.
“I—” Trent falters, and his voice is still a wreck—his throat must be raw—as he tries to continue, “I di-dihihih—” he keeps crying; he can’t seem to stop, but he manages, “ddn’mean…”
“I know,” says Roy, uncharacteristically soft, even as he runs his hand through Trent’s hair again, other hand rubbing his back. He’s got Trent Crimm in his arms, in his bed, sobbing like a child. It couldn’t be more surreal, but he has to focus on the now. “I know. Shh…”

posting "schedule" is ramping up to be maybe weekly ish, as the end is now in sight (for me, at least) and i'm Motivated
Chapter 17: During Trent's week with his daughter, he fails to ignore a group text, but also has some quality father/daughter time involving swings and macarons, then is lovingly interrogated by his ex.
commentary/notes below the cut
I don't know what group texts look like on iOS products, sorry! we're going for vibes, not verisimilitude here
as noted elsewhere, trent is reading Maggie O'Farrell's The Hand That First Held Mine, which I do recommend
(warning: accurate portrayal here that within the first fifty pages there is talk of a difficult childbirth, to put it mildly)
hilariously, the novel also features a character named Ted and a character named Felix. but i read the novel well after i introduced Felix to the story!
Felix is the second lover of one of the characters, being the one who's fine and all, he's there, he's got his appeal, but the shadow of her first lover looms over their relationship and her whole life
so I had fun imagining how that might fuck with Trent's head as he got farther into the book, but I didn't want to turn this fic into a book report so I'm relegating this amusement to my extra commentary
more Vi lore that is hinted at: one of her parents is from Spain but moved to London as a young adult, and Vi's connection to Spain is one of cousins and auncles and holidays and music
terribly sorry that this is 90% non-canonical characters, but hopefully you like at least one of them
